It's a real shame you couldn't finish this game, because those graphics are gorgeous!
The UI, environment and just general atmosphere were also quite good. Though I did have some confusion with exiting the first findings menu because I needed to hit Escape to clsoe the menu, but on browser that just exited fullscreen.
Oh, and I was unable to play the downloadable version because the virus scan kept failing on chrome.
I think the initial text at the beginning went on a bit too long, or there should have been some unique graphic for the cutscene basically. Because as nice as the shore scene looked, it got tedious clicking through so many lines in silence.
The combat isn't all that fleshed out as there's no abilities and the player can only defend or attack. And the balancing should probably get a second look if you finish this. Because I got trounced by slimes and could only do 1 or 2 damage at a time while they dealt 4-8 damage. If there are going to be brutal enemy encounters at the start I think more warning should be given, depending on how old school you want to be.
The combat did prevent me from exploring more though, which is sad because the world looks really nice and varied.
I liked the party characters, though I didn't expect Arthur to be that character lol.
I think this is a really good base to work from, and I hope you get to either finish this game or reuse the art in a future game.
Good work!
Very cool graphics!
I liked the atmosphere and the style of the game. I knew it wasn’t fully working but I wanted to try just because it looked so different.
The pacing in the beginning felt a bit off, too much text in one go / too long wait before I got to start to play. I think it could have been broken up into parts.
The battle was a bit awkward since there wasn’t that much need for player choice it might have been better as an auto-battler or at least let me swiftly input all of my characters choices and then have the round play out.
But yeah, it’s a good start for a dungeon crawler and it’s a pity you didn’t have the time to make it more of a complete game.

Good start! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.
I like the authentic EGA looking style. Lots of different environment and tiles, were those original or some assets crunched down to this palette? I like the indoor/outdoor minimap change, I'm not sure why it's useful, but it feels very old-school :D. It took me a while to realize I could click on the things on the right (no hotkey for that?). I managed to assembly a party, kill some goblins, but my dear friend Lord Cluckingham passed away and I was too distraught to continue (and, it seems like I saw about all there was to see :). Would have liked to played more!
This game could be so good, it looks so nice and I love the old style graphics for the game. Gameplay seems unbalanced like the 4 slimes were far too strong to beat and not much choice in combat. Hope to see this game get more work after jam as it could be a great retro style game.
The UI was misaligned for me, and I couldn't find my fourth party member by the docks.
When I was flat broke, I decided to call it.
The visuals are very nice though. Lots of assets. And the writing was alright too.
The visuals made me feel like I was a kid again playing games way past my bedtime. Very nostalgic! The game played well, and while there were some bugs, it didn't take away from things too much. I love the aesthetic, and I hope you release a cleaned up version after the jam!
As other commenters already mentioned - graphics are very nostalgic due to palette and resolution. Game also captures the overall style of games of that era with ability to be played almost exclusively with keyboard (I love that you’ve mapped A/D in combat for attack/defence).
It’s sad that it’s unfinished, I’ve managed to level up to level 3, gather some loots, like ring of accuracy, ring mail and leather armor, as well as short sword plus a bunch of hatchets and piles of gold. I was surprised that goblin packs didn’t carry any loot on them, I was killing them in high hopes for even more shiny loots, but alas.
I’ve encountered a bunch of bugs as well, like empty inn (you need to click on it’s name to fix that) or disappearing campfire etc.
But other than that games feels nice, I was crawling the town, something which looked like a cemetery and surrounding areas with joy. Great job!
This was awesome! The graphics brought me right back to the olden days, like I was playing a game forgotten to time. I really enjoyed exploring the little town and forest area, while small, was exciting to look around and discover some secrets and interact with everything. Once I recruited my party and found some weapons lying around, I was able to defeat several groups of enemies. The camping to restore health was a nice touch too, as I had run out of gold so having options there is good.
Initially, I got stuck on the gold screen. I think this is an issue primarily with the web player because escape simply escapes the embedded unity player. Also when I launched the game on the app, I tried every button except one (whoops) but somebody in discord let me know escape should do it, and it did. I would enjoy some beep boop sound fx or even some midi music or something, but it's a jam so that's the way its goes.
Awesome entry. I would love to see more! Gameplay here
This was thoroughly enjoyable. As everyone said, the retro aesthetic is awesome, the interactions are full of flavor, itemization is there and works well (If you're having a rough start, explore the town in detail, you'll find some free weapons). I did lose in combat eventually, but I had several successful encounters, even against a group of six goblins.
An awesome base and I really think this has potential to be expanded into something awesome.
I love the look of the game but I was unable to get past receiving 1 gold at the beginning of the game.
I recruited Arthur and Cecille and my party reached level 3 (although Lord Cullingham didn't, actually), it's hard to progress as a character who gains a level goes back to 0 hp.
I love that the game plays as fast as you press the buttons and the overall presentation, probably first and foremost the UI elements and interactions as the EGA palette I am more indifferent about although the actual pixel art is very good.
The Chicken Coop event is hilarious.
Nice little pearl there. I think this can become something great, just keep at it.
The minimap goes black if you enter the bottom reachable part of the map.
Hope you finish this post jam!
I absolutely love the art style! Total Sierra vibe going on.
Shame it's in sort of an unfinished state, but great job for what you have managed to do :) I have a soft spot for instant step dungeon crawlers and I would like to see more of this one.
I really loved the art style, super cool. I had a little trouble figuring out the menu controls, but overall I really like what you got here.
Hey! This game looks FANTASTIC, I really love the art-style, such a good nod to old school dungeon crawlers. The town was really cool to find and just navigating the environment was a pleasure, but the enemies blended in too much with the environment, a single small goblin wiped my team lol. Overall great job!
