This looks and sounds amazing!  Really well done and executed.

I wish there was a codex I could look at between rounds.  Looking through the item list during the round  is a little rough with everything else going on.

A little sound queue when swapping lanes and when an minion successfully spawns would be cool and go along way for quality of life.

stream disconnected half way through (sorry!):

Developer

Thank you for playing and streaming our game!

Your suggestions are gold, we will try to implement them as soon as we can.
A little sound for spawn and lane swap feels really good! And a little codex between the level is already under construction

Really solid entry. I never quite got a hold of how I was doing. Some waves I crushed with ease and others we were getting overrun. But I really liked the art, the vibe, and the gameplay.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! We will try to be more detailed on what is happening, by adding health bars and something that show monsters stat

I loved the game and the art style! Superb! The UI is also great (aside from the lane selection, as some already noted)

My feedback would be that for a game jam entry it was too many things to understand an once. For example, only by the end of my third run I noticed there are some items available.

The core gameplay loop was also little confusing: I couldn't tell if I send enough of my forces to the lane to defeat the enemies, and at what point and for what I get the scull points and magic points. And if my troops get to the end of the lane they just stand there aimlessly.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the game!

There is a little helper text displayed at the beginning of the first level (and it could be triggered again by clicking on the top left "h" button) but a visual helper would be more efficent for showing items and how materials were produced (slimes are the only ones that creates resource by being on the field) . We'll try to be more clear in the next game jams.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback

Fun game, nicely polished with nice presentation and a nice intro as well. My only feedback would be a clearer lane select graphic, I did see the yellow highlight in the corner but something that goes across the lane would be easier to see.

Developer

thanks and yeah, that selector is way too small and keep your eyes glued to the right edge, we'll release a little update after the voting ends to fix this too

Super fun game, congrats to the whole team!! PvZ lovers will love this one! It is great to see how much attention was put into little details, like the animation of the witch in the title screen, the heroes dialogues during the fight, or the cooldown in between unit placements to avoid placing multiple by accident.

A small question: is there a way to show the health points of the heroes and monsters? I think that would make longer-term strategies easier to plan :)

Developer

Thanks for the nice feedback! I do indeed got inspired from PvZ even though I never played it :)

actually there isn't an option to toggle hp bars right now, but it is planned for a future update. Also we do plan to add a queue system to the lane, do you think it will fit or not?

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

That sounds like a good idea! I would suggest having a common queue of upcoming units, with their lane being assigned at random upon spawn (i.e. the player knows what unit will come next, but not on which lane). This would allow the player to strategise a bit but still keep the tension. PvZ does something similar: at the beginning of each level, they show you all the enemies you will face, but don't tell you when or from which lane they will come. In any case, the best would be to playtest it and see what approach is more fun!

Good luck and hope to see the future version! :)

The presentation was so polished! Had a great time playing it :)

My only piece of feedback would be to add an indicator for which lane I've selected. Or perhaps I missed it? I would rely on clicking on the lane right before sending a monster just to make sure it was the lane I wanted.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the feedback!

There is a little yellow indicator on the right for which lane you've selected. We didn't make in time to make something more appealing to the eye.

The intro sequence and scene transitions were super fun!

Reminds me of Attactics from UFO50! Nice, enjoyed my time with it!

Developer

Gald that you liked it!
Never heard of that game, I will give it a try maybe I'll get some inspirations

Really cool and fun game here. Seems to me slimes are mandatory for the economy, worked really well until the 4th or 5th level where I got massacred over and over :P Sadly I gave up before seeing the end. Any tips for beating that level with mounted knights and stuff?

Developer (1 edit)

Slimes are indeed mandatory, we do plan to let split that power across other units in the future.
Have you used objects? 5th level require you to do so if you don't want to rely on stronger monsters. The best and simple strategy is starting by spamming only slimes for a bit to farm resources, then spawn your stronger units and relying on items activation

Submitted(+2)

I had problem managing slime count and items on that level. If I buy item too early, I ruin my slime economy. If I buy too late, slimes die too fast to let me develop stronger units. I probably need to balance those two methods somehow. TY!

This was really fun, even if it was a little harder than I would've liked! I love the PvZ kind of style that you went for, and this was overall a really fun game. Great incorporation of the bad guys wildcard too. I think the only thing I would've liked to see is what each unit in the shop would do and how upgrading your current units would do too. I felt kind of blind just purchasing random units which I think spelled my demise. Maybe also seeing the stats for the next round of enemies?

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

Yup, units stats are missing for now and would be a cool addition for the future. Also some indicator for heroes power.

Great job!

Things I liked:

*The controls were good

*Graphics looked nice

*Ui was really well done

Improvement:

*Could be a lot faster paced, I got bored waiting for enemies to kill each other

*Actions started to feel meaningless pretty fast since the only options I have in the game are which of the three tracks to send which soldier on... the soldiers all felt pretty much the same for playstyle, except the guys with a bow.

Overall a solid game.

Developer

Glad you liked the UI and the controls, I tried my best at them this time.

We ended up nerfing the heroes at the very last moments of the jam, while the game became a lot easier that ruined the pace of the levels sadly.

We also planned to have secondary skills but time knocked at the door so soon!
We do plan to modify it a bit after the voting period ends to at least to make the game really look like what we had in mind at the very beginning.

Thanks for the constructive feedback and for trying our game, that means a lot already

hihiihihi, the witch was funny

Submitted(+2)

nice work! I loved the witch laugh sounds at the end of each level :D

Developer

Thx, it was really fun to record that sound, but what made me laugh the most was the "holy" of the priest xD

I agree!

Dental plans and pension are pretty much why I'm on the side of good too knight, i feel ya.

I really enjoyed this one, amassing my maxed out slime farm to generate income is very satisfying. The gameplay loop is a dopamine wheel, and I played thru the entire game.

I was pleasantly surprised to see item mouse-over tooltips, as that helped me with deciding what excess silver to spend on. But i wished this feature was extended to the minion purchase screen. I was looking for a ranged unit to take over my poor archers, but from the sprites, the new units all looked melee to me. Was unable to tell what they do without added description.

The lane selection indicator should be bigger, perhaps highlighting the entire lane. This is because my eyes had to be glued to the right side of the screen most of the time, which is a shame, as the exclamations by the NPCs on the left were comedy gold. Peeling the player's attention off the right side would really do the effort at humour due justice.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time playing as the misunderstood forces of evil. Well done!

Developer

Ahahah those benefits are what got us all!

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience, we really tried our best in such a short time.
You are right, we'll work on those improvements in the future (the heroes really deserve it).

We appreciated the constructive feedback, let's keep growing 🌱

Great work, I really enjoyed this! I made it to the end but still don’t quite get the balance of the units. I really appreciated the multiple input methods, I used mouse for positioning and qwer for placement, my brain couldn’t do it any other way. Having something to speed up the intro would have been nice, I wanted to read it but wanted to get to the game more. Flip side, I didn’t have time to make the text in my game run at different speeds (and happen at more convenient times) so I totally understand.

Developer

Glad to hear that you played it all, we'll add more info on the units for sure after the jam voting ends, so the balance could be clearer. We'll try to fix the text speed to let the user decide it too.

Thanks for your feedback and understanding.

Nice visuals and the audio doesn't even seem to be  just using your voice. The challenge level is quite high, I couldn't just mindlessly buy whatever unit I could. Congratulations.

Developer

Thx, I recorded all the sounds with my mouth and it was amazing for me too to see the results! I had a lot of fun in this process xD
