The graphics are really stunning because they remind me of all the good old flash games I used to play as a teen. Also the animations are really smooth, it’s something I struggle to make look good in Gdevelop. It’s amazing how for such a short time you’ve managed to think of a story, make cutscenes and have a voice actor! Fae’s attacks are well designed and the floor smash is so overpowered. My only complaints are that you can’t skip the cutscenes and some of the platforming parts are just too difficult. Great game!
You can, actually! It's the Enter Key :)
You’re right! And it says so in the description. 🫣 I don’t know why but I tried my usual Escape or Space to skip it. Thanks for letting me know! :D
I've seen people use Esc for menu navigation while simultaneously having Fullscreen enabled, nutty stuff.
Actually I’m guilty of that. xD
You have done a great job with this one. Very well presented animations and voice acting are great. Follows the theme. Would be amazing to see more time put into this to polish it up. It could be a really good game on full release.
Graphics and audio are awesome, well done ! I just found it hard to use the controls properly and I had some collision issues.
Didn't want to leave a review before since the character didn't load for me didn't know there was a restart button after the game worked i was amazed so much was done on such a short time. The art is fantastic, music is nice, animations on MC are great and being just average and having an OP summon is great. Tho sometimes backgrounds didn't load in and the summon refused to interact with the enemies. Despite hiccups and stuff this is an amazing work!
You can really see all the hard work that went into this entry. It's impressive how much content you managed to pack in, given the limited time you had to work on it. We love the art style and the gameplay loop—it’s engaging and well-designed. Great job on the narrative as well! The music and sound effects fit the game beautifully, making for a truly cohesive experience. Fantastic work!
P.S. I’m curious—what did you use to create the character animations?
its a bad game. I have not many good things to say about it apart from the voice acting and maybe the concept of the big avatar battle form. yet its incredibly half coocked just to not say direclty raw.
----STATE OF THE GAME----
Umplayable, common to bugs, usually after dying I end teleported to a test room unable to continue. sometimes the fae just flies away from the screen and in more to one time i fell out and died on supposed solid ground.
----GAMEPLAY---
mediocre, is not to being against simplicity, but the range attack of the protagonist is very weak, that would be okay if at least it would offer some knockback or response to the player from their attack. But no, the skeletons just continue like nothing when attacked. it wouldn t be a problem if they had less life, but they are walking tanks ignoring any response the player gives to them. Posible correction, give the MC attack a small knockback or make them weaker,is frustrating to spam J yet seeing the enemies doesn t seem to care specially with their tanky life.
Lacks more variation to the MC, considering the main attack is so weak and the main theme is "overpower" at least the main range attack could be charged or something. Or if it is propper to the gameplay to keep the MC weak. maybe you could give her a dodge or something to avoid clanky gameplay. If her reason is to be a node for the FAE them, the MC should be maybe faster, more mobile and sneaky to reach parts the FAE can t, while the fae being the muscle.
----ART----
Ok, not my taste in art, but I accept it has ok quality in a start. Despite this, post first level, the desing becomes very plain an unspired. the animations of Fae are ok. I would talk better of them, since I noticed they were suposed to change the attack animation if you attack more than once (changing the arm to attack) yet for some reason, the animations overlaped when I played. the seccond one was interrumpted the seccond one, with means I would be sent back to the default animation in a repetitive cycle
----CONCLUSION----
The duality of the parts its not good implemented or executed, if the Fae was the muscle, the mc should be the legs. making the player constantly have to choice and change from mobility to damage. the FAE can keep its paper in this, yet the MC falls back clumsily in its role.
Unfortunately, the bugs are ones I never encountered so it's not like I left it in to be lazy. I fixed hundreds of bugs while making this.
Also, I know you're trying to sound intelligent and insightful, but calling a Game Jam game made with only 5 days of time to work on it due to working 80 hours a week "half cooked" is a truly braindead and banal critique.
The character's projectile actually did push enemies back before, as you are suggested I do, because I'm not a moron, but it was causing too many issues/bugs with the Physics aspect of the enemies, so I decided to scrap it at the last minute.
The entire purpose of the "tanky" enemies was to create the contrast in power between the MC and Fae, and any other tweaks to Elara's gameplay just didn't have enough time to get worked on. There were many gameplay elements involving puzzles and platforming that did not make it in, so don't assume we just hamfisted in barebone mechanics on purpose.
The art that you say has an "ok" quality at the start was hand-drawn, worked on for dozens of hours by my artist when he wasn't busy taking care of his family and his career.
The quality dropped off afterwards because I ran out of time to put levels together proper, simple as that. That's a critique I accept.
Also, I have two other members of the team too, it's impressive that you can write out an essay and manage to barely even mention the effort in the music, sound design, and voice acting. Kinda makes it hard to believe you wrote any of this in good faith tbh.
----CONCLUSION----
All of us worked our absolute asses off with the time we had to work on this. It's okay to give feedback in be critical, but I implore you to learn not to be an ass about it and blame the devs rather than the context around the development of the game. Thank you for your time!
it doesn t look like you all really worked your asses, sorry.
Lol. JJ gave some constructive criticism on bros game and he got his feelings hurt. So he came to this game to write a dissertation about how terrible it is. Haha soft
Not really, its jus bad, I can't lie 🤦🏻♂️. I don't know why everyone just keep ignoring the fact that is waaaaaaay too buggy and waaaaaaay too raw. And don't say at me a game Jam game has little time to be done. Other solo developers made good games with smaller scopes, bugless and well closed. I just can't ignore all the mistakes that came from trying to make it big and fail in the process.
I really enjoyed the art and visuals for this game! Implementing feature where you can transform to switch between characters was also very creative and enjoyable. The game's attack and animations felt pretty smooth and in sync with the inputs. I would've liked if there was a tutorial but it's not that significant, so overall this is a great game!
Great original artwork! Almost missed the transformation bit. Thank goodness I didn't, cuz that was really where the theme was at. 😅 (along with some more glorious animations). Nice work! I think the game glitched out on me tho, cuz after dying I entered what seemed like a spirit world version and it kept looping and I couldn't progress.
I loved the animations, they felt very fluid :3
I would have liked to complete the entire game, but I couldn't XD
i like the art style , very good game :D
hey thats some nice art work, i like the style!!
Impressive graphics (Drawings) and audio just sorry the game doesn't seem to start, the character is not appearing. Judging from the comments I must have fallen into the first hole and gotten forever stuck? Anyway the game keeps getting stuck and can't see main character.
Apparently this is an inconsistent bug that can be fixed by pressing the R key to restart the scene until the character appears properly. Please give it a try!
I love the art style—it reminds me of a children's book—the gorgeous animations, and the theme—it's nice and well done. I hope you keep it going.
Good game it is fun but quite some bugs like for some reason I am not dying when I fall into the first hole I was falling for quite some time. other then that and the debugger room everything was good I like the enemy design and map visuals also the voice acting was good.
Amazing audio and visuals.
Impressive game! Good job.
This is a pretty ambitious game, and given the time constraints, pretty impressive. The critical bug is really a shame though.
Amazing art style and music. Very well done!
This is a fantastic effort. I love the animations, and controlling Fae feels incredibly good. Thumping the ground to make enemies fly into the air then punching them while they drop back down is extremely satisfying. I would have liked to see some puzzle-type elements where you need to squeeze through and/or open up tight spaces using a combination of both characters’ skills. It feels unreasonable to expect that much out of nine days’ work, though: the fact that you alternate left/right-hand magic-casting and there’s a unique frame for doing it in midair already makes this seem very ambitious.
Puzzle and platforming elements were part of the day one concept, unfortunately we didn't get there :/
Love the added voice. Nice touch
