Game Description
Heart of the Sea is a game about the sad reality of ocean pollution - with a magical, uplifting twist. Explore the depths of the sea in a nimble submersible, meet and learn from sea creatures along the way, and discover a way of restoring our home <3
How does your game tie into the theme?
As an ocean exploration game, the world gets darker the deeper you go and things are 'unseen' in that way. But the unseen theme also applies to the illegal mining operation and the affects of pollution that are 'unseen' when you ignore or aren't directly confronted with the.

Amazing work! I became less interested in the trash and more interested in the story. The art was out of this world!
I thought the art was very nice, with a wonderful painterly style! I was particularly impressed by the “surface” of the ocean! Control-wise everything felt solid, and the garbage claw functioned extremely well, in my opinion… I loved playing with that thing! Very emotive! The garbage collection mechanic felt very good too!
The collision with the garbage pieces in the water sometimes felt odd. Not game breaking in any way, but sometimes the garbage seemed to just float past my sub, while other times it felt like my boat was colliding with and flinging the garbage into the watery void. Again, this wasn’t really game breaking, just something I noticed a couple times.
Speaking of the garbage, I didn’t notice any explicit reason to collect it (except for an excuse to use the awesome claw!). There was no garbage counter, no score associated with it, nor did I encounter a story element that spoke to my garbage collection efforts (of course, this last point may be due to my not finding the end of the game). For a game that has collecting garbage as a core story element, I feel there should be something stronger driving the player to really want to do so (beyond the pure desire to use their spiffy claw thing!)
As far as the story, I feel I missed a bunch of it. While a chunk of that can be pinned on me being a goofball on stream and not noticing/ignoring the dialog boxes that came up, I feel another big part of that was the dialog boxes didn’t sit and wait for me, but rather were automatically on a timer. I feel dialog should always progress at the user’s choice. Sadly, this means I think I missed about half of what was being told to me :(
Lastly, I’m feeling there should have been some element(s) that guided the player to the important story beats. While I do enjoy open environments, there are times when it’s nice to know where the story actually wants me. I felt I was left to figure out where to go, and I worried I was just missing huge chunks of the game because I didn’t know where I was supposed to go. Maybe something like “the garbage slowly flows towards the closest story element” or maybe “schools of fish come and go from story elements”.
Over all, though, I thought with was a really well done game! Here’s a link to my stream of the game, for your entertainment, or self torture, lol!
Thank you very much for your detailed feedback! This helps a ton. Please keep doing that!
Amazing game! Sadly it lagged a bit, but I think it’s because my computer is kinda old lol. Beautiful graphics and funny dialogue!
Very well done. Great graphics, intuitive controls, a story with an ending. Slam dunk jam entry!
Thanks for playing! I really appreciate that.
Very nice title intro! The art looks very pretty. The use of layers for the visual effects of the waves and water particles floating by is beautiful. I love the main mechanic of the claw reaching out and grabbing stuff, though it felt a little imprecise at times. The use of lighting for the search light and the area effect is a nice touch. I think this is one of the most visually appealing games this jam so far. I got a bit lost towards the end, not sure what to do after collecting the two glowy things. Overall a very chill submarine experience. Great job!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I'm happy you liked my art, it was my first time doing the painting/drawing instead of writing shaders ^^ We were hoping to have more of a story arc but we ran out of time to implement some important things. You're meant to collect all the magic pieces in the caves and bring them to cave with the heart and use the pieces to save it <3 It's the cave all the way on the left :)
collect the third glowy thing, a bit tricky, glad you liked it !
I really like the hand-drawn graphics. The animations and visual effects really make this game feel very polished!
This was a nice concept, and interesting take on the theme.
Loved this game! The atmosphere and lighting of the game was very nice and I loved how there was sort of an open world. But one question...
what was this lol :>
good question..
Hes just chilling
love the art! I must admit , i stopped picking up trash at some point :(
i just love games based around ocean and stuff and i couldnt stop exploring around... Very cool
The trash was meant to increase until the player couldn’t keep cleaning it all ~ magic is the answer ^^
Glad you liked it!
oh interesting! Now it makes sense
The grabby arm was awesome! The art was amazing and the game gave beautifully illustrated children's book vibes.
A beautiful game with a great message!
I really like the art, it's just so charming. The dialogue and story is well written, really enjoyed collecting trash and sending them up, spent quite of bit of time with it. The little glowy things 🥹
good to hear that you enjoyed ^^
My submarine can't hold all that trash. a sad reality indeed. the doodle art style was really nice. I tried to grab the dolphins. the game was really nice and polished. the feel of exploration was really nice.
I'm happy you appreciated the art ^^ And I banned dolphin-grabbing >:(
Finally, a game I genuinely enjoyed! The background artwork is on another level, and the paper submarine fits perfectly into the world. Great dialogs and the gameplay is smooth and simple, amazing job guys! Sound effects was pretty nice too. The only thing I felt was missing is the music. I would have liked to hear some soft background tracks while exploring. I checked the menu and credits music, but to me, it doesn’t quite match the mood. Overall, a great game with meaning and character.
glad to hear. i feel like its more enjoyable without tracks :,<
Very cool game with pretty original idea. The darkness which surrounds the player really gives the feeling that those parts of the sea were unseen. The gameplay was quite relaxing. The dialogs were awesome. (And of course, I love the turtle :>).
Thanks bro :3
Love your artwork aesthetic and sfx.
everything felt super cohesive and charming, like a little illustrated book come to life.
great vibes throughout!
Thank you :D
What a visually appealing game! I really loved the art on this one. The illustrations reminded me of Quentin Blake's work, and brings me back to my childhood of reading Roald Dahl novels. The watercolor background and parallax layers really do make you feel like you're traversing in water. Even the Sonar ping was wonderfully colored.
The SFX also added atmospheric tension to the game. I did hesitate to venture forth as the surroundings got darker and the music loomed ominously.
I didn't manage to get to an objective, but I suspect this was a navigational error on my part. I did get to what looks like a pair of radioactive goggles where my hard-earned thrash disappeared, but I missed seeing what the characters said about it (something about polluting the sky).
With some polish and finessing, I think this might be a candidate for an entertaining interactive children's book! Kudos to the team for the entry!
That makes me so happy ^^ I've actually thought about making interactive children's books and now I feel more inspired to do that :D Those goggles might've been a finding nemo easter egg I added heheh maybe the dialog wasn't synced though. We had a lot of last minute changes that broke things a bit with gameplay, so sorry about that!
