Concerns regarding Jam Results

I don’t wanna sound salty at all, but some of the games in the top 10 look and play like AI generated messes. I don’t mean to sound negative, but some of these games are just not good. If you don’t realize which ones I’m talking about, I’d be happy to let you know.

There is also a big difference between the ratings of the first game and the second game. The first one has 4 stars, and the second has 3.4. I’ve taken part in a bunch of jams, and I can tell you that this kind of gap is not common, so I’d suggest taking a look into that as well.

And third point, you can chalk this up to me being salty, but I received over 20 percent one star ratings. In my experience, when you get that many one star ratings, it usually means something fishy is going on with the voting.

If you are interested in how to fix this, I’d suggest playing and judging all the games, not just the top 10. I’ve played some pretty cool entries in this jam, and it is a shame they are being overshadowed by all this buffoonery.

yeh, i didnt wanna say anything since i always wanna give people the benefit of the doubt...

But considering the number of entries its quite easy to manipulate the votes, also ive noticed the AI made games... but wasnt 100% sure so i cant call them out for it.

I also agree with just judging all entries instead of top 10, as this shud discourage any future cheating and vote manipulation.

True, I myself liked the first one, and of the second game I gave both 5 stars—I thought they were really beautiful.

But regardless, the voting is open to the public anyone can vote.

i didnt even notice the voting was public... doesnt that mean its easier to manipulate the votes? I for one host B1T Jam and it would have been way too easy to just ask everyone from there to vote my game 5 stars and everyone elses 1 star

Yeah, I don't know. That's why it should be chosen by the admin themselves.

Thats nice, But I did not realise the voting was open to everyone? Thats a suprise.

That's why the result may have been different.

Even so, I believe everyone deserved it regardless. Now I'll try to create a game for the next game jam.

I couldn't even participate in this one.

I think it’s fair to curate, unfortunately there are a lot of people acting meanly, using AI-made games. But I believe that manually made games will always stand out.

Yeah, apparently there are games made with AI in this jam

I also think it's fair if LightBearSoftware chooses the games so there are no doubts.

Dude, I think the results are already out, but still, your game turned out amazing. I gave you 5 stars  totally well-deserved!

i think u got confused, only community vote is out. the host still gets to pick the final winners from the top 10

Host

thanks for the comments. We did have a rating queue to discourage cheating (you could only rate 5 games at a time). Did the rating queue work, we forgot to check!

In the future only one submission per team to get a better representation of the top 10 may help.

Even though anyone could vote, I think some of the results were fair. Still, there were games that deserved to be in the top 10 but ended up missing out.

In the next Game Jam, you could review the top 10 and choose your top 3. I think that would be fairer for everyone.

yeh i think you got confused somewhere... thats literally how its implemented now.

community votes for top 10, and then the host gets to pick top 3 from the top 10... thats literally how it works

what were arguing is that the judge shud vote from all the entries and not only the top 10, due to the fact that cheating the community vote is super easy... all you have to do is vote your game to get into the top 10, and vote 1 stars on everyone else so they dont get into top 10... ensuring you dont really have any competition, since the judge wud only get to pick from the top 10... which in this scenario would consist of the worst game in the jam or your all game submissions, ensuring that you win the jam.

Host

that would be so lame if someone did that. Voted 1 star on everything else so they could get in the top 10

it happens... like alot, nearly every jam ive joined with a prize has it happen. limiting the voting to submitters and having a large pool of submissions help negate the 1star spams... but still discouraging to see it happen, really wish ITCH.IO has more effective ways to moderate jams. when i hosted B1T Jam, ive partnered up with Jamlytics to help moderate and catch cheaters... helps reasure any participants that the jam is safe and fair.

winning/losing a jam is more fun when its fair, having cheaters around ruins the experience.

I also think that’s unfair. There are some great games that didn’t make it into the top 10. I recommend that LightBearSoftware take a look at them.

And it is way easier to do when even the non submitters can vote as there is no way of moderating it.
