Newbie?
Yes - I'm new to game jams!
How does your game fit the theme?
To finally begin making games, thanks for hosting the jam, glad to finally have made a game albeit a very simple one :)

I really like the art style! Reminds me of a game I used to play on my Super Nintendo.
I loooved the idea of playing as a snail, snails are one of my biggest faves! (I just slightly favour sea slugs) The visuals were so cute and I was especially impressed by the giant african land snail sprite. Such great detail crammed into a gameboy art style! I also loved collecting Snail Rules, and I was impressed that this is the first game I've seen in the jam that had a fully complete story and dialogue.
However, the control scheme was a bit hard to use for right-handed folks. Directional keys and the mouse means I'm either trying to switch between them both with the same hand or have to move my keyboard far to the left.
I also felt it was kind of a let down that the ending doesn't involve the "eat enough to be higher level than the frogs" gameplay, and instead the final two challenges were troll puzzles with no solution. It was pretty annoying having to click through all the answers to every question again and again, watch all the animations of the cups, just to have another attempt at the last question which is impossible anyway. I felt it was really unintuitive because "snails don't cheat", but the answer is that yes, they cheated. And same for only being allowed to resign after moving multiple chess pieces, when the instructions say only move one, and "snails listen to rules". IDK, it made me feel like I hadn't earned the happy feast by being a good snail. Maybe it coulda ended with "Final snail rule: snails speak up when things are unfair!", to make it all make more sense?
Sorry for such a long comment haha! I just loved this soooo much!! I got so invested in making the giant snail proud. - Bonnford
First of all, thank you so much for playing the game, glad you like the game! :) I am also especially very proud of the big snail sprite hahah. As for your specific feedback, I absolutely agree with you, and a bunch of these things were already on the to-fix list for after the judging is over! Especially that you actually have the three lives throughout the quiz and cup minigames, I severely underestimated how difficult that would be for others. That last thing about snails speaking up is actually a great one, I will keep it in mind when I am patching the ending, thank you!
This is incredibly well done, especially for a first game jam! I really loved the art and the music and all the snail facts of course! I also like how there was an option for scary or not scary, it really opens the game up for everyone! One nitpick I have is the control scheme, I would've preferred being able to use WASD but otherwise, great work!
This was fabulous. I very much enjoyed being a snail. Art style was awesome, music was well themed, and I got to use my snail trivia knowledge.
This is a really fun game! It's incredible that this was your first game and jam! I almost wanted to click on scary game but I'm such a big chicken haha.
Only nitpick I have is that I would have liked to have the snail moving faster, else it was kinda slow on the "combat" part.
I have truly been educated in the ways of the snail! The quiz at the end was funny and I liked how the big snail was teased before encountering it properly. Well done on making such a good game as your first game jam entry
I was so freaked out! Good job:) Not sure if it was intentional for you to lose if you don't accuse them of cheating and flip again? Is it cause flipping again is cheating? I just figured accusing of cheating is also against the rule that snails don't cheat idk aha
Also there was no noise when eating frogs, and it would be nice to have WASD movement.
Despite the feedback though this is a great game, made my heart drop aha and I learned about snails!
Now I am a true snail! Did not know that snails have teeth >_>
The game was very polished and cute all the way, and I'm happy that the big snail respected me not liking scary games ^_^
Seriously amazing submission more so being your first one, great job!
Congratulations on completing your first jam!
I love the whole aesthetic you have going on, specially with the colour palette and sounds that remind gameboy games. And I most confess that today I learned that snails have teeth!
Really curious on what's behind the Lvl.99 vine!
It was your FIRST GAME??? That was so so so so fun, I loved all the snails rules, I loved the eating mechanic, it seemed like a game tailored just for me 🎶
I love snails way too much, so this was a ton of fun. The snail rules where very funny. I also liked the foreshadowing of the giant african snail (that i immediatly recognise)
During the test i got all of teh snail facts questions right, but i failed because i didn‘t want to hurt the cup guy‘s feelings :(. I did beat it after that though
Overall this is a super charming first game, +5000 points for snails (did i mention i liked snails)
Oh that's fair, unfortunate you don't currently then! I agree, they are very cool and cute and just such kind and soft animals.
When I get home this afternoon I'll send you a picture, I currently have way too many land snails due to them losing their previous home, but they will be rehomed soon since there are simply too many of them to take care of in the long run. I am just glad I was able to provide them a safe home for a bit!
This was so much fun! I'm eager to know what's behind the LV. 99 vines
This was such a polished experience, literally a full game that could be released today imo. I love the color palette and the pixel art, I love the gameplay and the stylistic choices made to suit the story, and I love that you made the game about snails instead of some more popular creature. Snails are so cute!
