How does your game fit the theme?
Sometimes when we are facing a challenge or task that just seems too big, we freeze. Either from being nervous, or decision paralysis, or just plain not sure what to do as the best way forward.

In Shyft, the idea is that you go through a development journey of improving yourself via gaining dice slots and improving your dice. If your dice is better, then you hit harder and beat enemies easier. And everyone gets to play the way they want to, because you can swap out any of your dice faces to fit your playstyle.

With that in mind (that your growth is entirely up to you), Shyft encourages you to take the path that best suits you. There is no one concrete best path to take, so the game gives you the opportunity to choose any starting point on the outside of the map. Then after each room, you're free to go the other way and loop around if you decide that's the better path. You are able to 'Shyft' around!

That's to emphasize that it's okay to change course when you start your journey on something. If a path isn't working out, you shouldn't slam your head against the wall to make it work. You're able to Shyft your direction to something that works better for you.

There isn't one exact best path to finishing the game (or atleast the complete idea of the game). The only best course of action is to 'Just Get Started'.

P.S. Since I didn't get to finish the game to the degree that I would have liked, it's actually lacking in dice customization and varying enemies. But hope you enjoy it!

That was a very fun game and I can totally see it expanding in the future to include way more levels and mechanics! I especially like the level select and how you have to drag your character. Roguelikes are my favorite and if you end up adding more dice/shops and all that kind of stuff, I can really see this blowing up. The only thing is maybe I saw it wrong, but it seemed at times that I would roll my dice, but then I wouldn't attack and would just reroll so I'm not sure what happened there. Great work!

The concept has great potential! I especially like the idea of customizing one's dice. As for the features that are actually implemented, they look, sound and feel nice. Very solid work for the amount of time allowed, and the future vision shines through

like the idea, the balancing could be improved as having 2 stars for the enemy makes it fairly likely for a high combo to happen atleast once in a run where you are trying to kill all enemies(and it is hard/unlikely for the player to have high defense to defend against it). The strat does just seem to be to roll and if u r going to take damage put up shield if able to. the adding a dice doesn't seem worth it given the price compared to just putting up defense. If you had enough time to finish the features you mention  in the "How this fits a theme" thing or description, it could probably be a lot of fun. the style was nice, I did originally rush to the purple circle thinking it was the goal.

This game is really fun, it's a shame that you couldnt add more enemys and more dices.

Submitted

really confused but the games is pretty good

Could be a very addicting mobile game. Definitely could use some popups or other indication of the result to signpost the effect.

Interesting game and actually addicting. Polish it up a bit and it would be really fun (Some more quality of life stuff like some other comments said would be nice)

Oh and I would love to hear what you think of my game as well if you have the chance

Amazing game for your first jam! The mechanic is really great, but it still needs to be polished. Like, when players roll swords, enemy Hp it show like [hp] - [player damage] could make it easier for players to read! :)

Really had fun with this game! The mechanic of rolling dices was very good implemented! Always got me like "PLEASE COME 2 SHIELDS AND ONE STAR" and then the enemy get like 4 stars in row and i cry

Developer(+1)

Thank you and glad you enjoyed it! It's a little embarrassing to admit but I left the enemy having two star die faces (instead of my original 1) so they had higher chances of getting star combos. That explains why every other person trying it gave the same feedback of getting overpowered at times lol

Definitely could use a bit of explanation. Interesting game. Needs a bit of polish.

Developer

Thanks for trying it! Hoping to put in more time later on to give it that much needed polish. Especially with a couple of major mechanics not being implemented.

Needs a little bit of balance and learning curve evening out. Good concept though

Developer

Thank you for trying it out! Definitely didn't make enough time to playtest and balance it out. I actually think  I accidentally left the enemy dice a little too powerful lol

I agree with a previous comment that it's a bit hard to understand what's going on at first ^^ That's were a "tooltip" system would be really useful if you continue developing, and yeah I'm all for dice-based games!

Developer

Thank you for trying! And I also agree, didn't really get the time to make a tutorial or anything like that. I was really banking on people catching on how to do it quick lol

cute and simple game~ I can't with the enemy rolling 10 attack and me rolling none and not having enough dice tho;v;

Developer

Thank you! And yes those happen sometime (and very rarely so oof). I'm hoping to add in some healing mechanics to help balance things out eventually! And that actually gives me an idea to include a relic (which is a way later implementation) that prevents one hit KO's like that.

Took me a bit to understand the mechanics but it's very nice and simple. Would be super fun with Dice customization though. I have very bad RNG and one of the enemies rolled 10 attack and I had zero shields despite using 4 die, so I insta-died ;_;

Developer

Thanks for trying the game! And yes, can't wait to get that mechanic working in the game, already have a lot of ideas in mind for new faces and effects. And yes that's so bad RNG lol and imagine they enemy only has one dice so to get it repeatedly is oof
