How does your game fit the theme?
Cleaning always gets easier once you've started. This game doesn't, but it is a game about cleaning!

Quite addictive haha and fitting to the theme. I liked the infinite upgrading & enemies becoming stronger, so that you get the satisfaction of progress, but the game stays hard.
Interesting take on Vampire Survivors genre! I liked the idea of killing enemies and getting exp for sucking them up instead of them just dropping it. Though placing buttons for leveling up and ending the game next to each other is kinda questionable since it can cause to accidentally end game prematurely. Good work regardless!
Had a lot of fun cleaning my room!!!!!! Haha, in all seriousness, game is very simple but its a nice game loop. More upgrades would make this game feel less repetitive. I loved using the debug tool to make my vacuum super OP :3. It was very fun, great work on your first game jam!
Cool and creative concept you've got here. Played up till Round 20 where I faced my end, though I'm not sure how I could've really improved it. Regardless the only main feedback I can give is just wanting to see more, more of the game to be expanded upon with some variety within it. Other than that, good stuff, your game came together quite well. Keep up the good work!
Our games had a similar idea aha
I found that it got pretty difficult pretty quick! If that's what you were going for then kudos, it was pretty challenging and got the heart pumping!
This game was so cute and I loved the theme! I especially loved having to empty the trash and getting an upgrade, I thought that was super unique and created more opportunities for interesting gameplay expression. I think it would be great if the game could pause while the player was choosing an upgrade since I usually didn't have time to read them since I was getting attacked. A vacuuming sound FX when vacuuming would also elevate the mechanic, since it was already very satisfying to suck up huge amounts of trash and a sound cue would take it to the next level of satisfaction. great job especially for your first jam!
Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! I am not sure if something was wrong or if you've discovered some bugs, because the game does pause on the upgrade screen. And the vacuum does play a sound effect when it sucks - I recorded my actual vacuum cleaner but I had to modify it quite a bit to make a sound effect that wasn't just super annoying haha. If you're not hearing it then maybe there is something wrong. I'm sorry! One thing I know is an issue is when you get to the trash can the level up menu does not pause your invincibility timer, so if you get hit while going into the menu, you'll get hit one more time after you leave. But I am pretty sure you shouldn't get hit while you have it pulled up. If you can reproduce any of these issues I'd like some more information so that I can fix them later!
Ah I see! I'm not really sure how to reproduce it unfortunately but I think it's great to know that those additions are already in the game. I have no complaints in that case! :)
WHen Isaw the game was about cleaning I did not expect a game like this. I really liked tthis it was very fun haha. I only got to wave 8 and then it became impossible but I reallly appreciated how quickly the different enemy types appeared. I wish you could have showed how the differennt enemy types behaved clearer, and maybe another mechanic with the vacuum like a blast, or shockwave? Mayybe a push function? Beinng able to suck up powerups like the heal for example would be nice too. Still really fun game. Welll done especially for your first game!
Thank you! I made some changes at the last minute that made the health pickups spawn much more rarely - if I had time to playtest some more I would have definitely made them collectable with the vacuum also, that just makes sense intuitively. I love the idea of some kind of blast or push you can use when your vacuum is full, or being able to jettison some of what you've collected to do that seems like a cool idea. It would also make it feel a little more fair to the player since you can really get surrounded and have no escape at times. Thanks for the feedback!
Funny take on the Survivors genre!
I had fun with all the different types of enemies. Perhaps a secondary weapon type can also be fun.
I wish the damages done on the bigger trash were communicated a bit better. For the uninitiated it could feel like the vacuum didn't do anything on the bigger trash, since there's no damage indicators etc.
Thanks for playing! You've hit on my two biggest regrets from this game - I originally wanted to add different secondary weapons but that had to get cut unfortunately. I didn't really understand at the time that those are a big part of what make this genre fun! And not having any feedback about damaging tougher enemies was also a big miss for me. I had gotten used to playing it from testing so I did not prioritize that like I should have. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate your time playing my game :)
I love this type of games, and this one was very fun to play, awesome job!
Fun game, the upgrades are creative, the gameplay loop is cool. Great job!
I love these kinds of games. Especially games like Vampire Survivors. Its a great mix and the mechanics mesh well enough for me to come back to this to play some more!
This was very fun, there were some really cool design decisions like making the player somewhat helpless when their vacuum was full; so if you take only offensive-focused upgrades (i.e., no Speed or I-Frames) then you will not last until the end. I think that is really cool. I will say, I wasn't quite able to understand how the threshold for what could be vacuumed was evolving; many times I would be able to suck up a particular bit of trash one second, and then the next second I would try 2-3 times but it would not be sucked up.
Also, the inclusion of debug commands to help evaluators skip along is a great idea, definitely something I'll be using going forward. It makes total sense, no idea how I didn't think of it
Overall, great game. Congrats on your first game jam submission, you did awesome!
I really wish I had prioritized some sort of indication about enemies getting damaged, but I ran out of time. The bigger ones just had more health, that's all. If they dropped to zero they would stop for a short time - the original idea was they would restart with a little bit more health so you had to "down" them and then hit them again to suck them up, but things got kind of overwhelming so I left in the down mechanic and then just didn't give them any more health when they started back up. This meant there really wasn't any way of knowing how much hp the enemies had or at what point they could be sucked up. That would definitely be my #1 item to fix in retrospect, but I just ran out of time honestly.
And I don't remember where I heard the idea about debug commands, I think someone mentioned it on discord and I had the same thought, "how didn't I think of that?" haha. Thanks for your feedback :)
Didn't expect survivor-like game 😂
I like the premise and the overall idea of the game, I'd suggest making the level up a automatic prompt pop up instead of having the player press "L" it takes away from the intense gameplay at the later waves, the message when you die is so dark it caught me of guard haha
Last note, as a fellow newbie congratulation on finishing your first game!
Thanks so much! I'm sorry for the confusion, the "L" button was intended to be a cheating mechanic for people who want to see the whole game and skip ahead using the level selector. You're meant to get to the trash can in order to level up normally.
Loved my first playthrough!
Could see myself play even more, when more upgrade are implemented!
And a great and solid first game jam submission.
Congratulations!
The game is very addictive , this is a vampire survival game but with trash. This is very fun for a first jam Nice work
It is such a unique take on the survivors Genre, really reminds me the game Vampire Survivors. I usually dislike cleaning my room but I like clean this room LMAO. Great and Fun game for a first game in game jams!
Great 1st game, a unique theming on the survivors genre. I would make the upgrade menu pop up when you qualify for an upgrade. It got to a point where I was just able to constantly upgrade in quick succession once I remembered the upgrade button was there.
Thanks for playing! Maybe there is some confusion, the L key is a debug level-up left in for the evaluation period. It's not really intended to be part of 'normal' gameplay. You can use it to level up as much as you want. Typically though, you have to get to a trash can to upgrade.
Ah, that makes sense.
good game! it kinda reminded me of vampire survivors, it was quite challenging specially when the bigger enemies started to appear
Thank you! I didn't start out intending to make a vampire survivors game, but that's kind of how it ended up. Funny how that stuff tends to happen sometimes.
That was a very fun game to play! I found myself bopping my head to the music as I played haha! It was quite challenging also but I noticed that if you press the level up button, you can just keep leveling up until the max level! Other than that, it was a great game, especially for a first time!
Yep that is intended, I wanted to make sure ppl could level up however much they wanted while evaluating the game. It is kinda hard and a lot depends on which upgrades you're able to get, so I wanted to make sure you could get to higher levels and skip through stuff to see the later waves if you wanted :) Thanks for playing!
I enjoyed the music and really liked the idea. The only suggestion I have is maybe the trash can indicator could show up a bit sooner before it gets full. Great job!
That's a really good idea, I definitely should have spawned the trash can before the vacuum is all the way full, it would make the inactive periods much shorter. Thanks for playing!
