How does your game incorporate the theme?
We interpret the idea of “power” through different aspects in the game namely through our core mechanics and story motivation. The only movement mechanic the player relies on is directly affected by the physical power they possess which is based on the number of power ups (flies) they’ve consumed. Additionally, the player’s motivation to progress through the level is through the influence that familial ties has on oneself; the idea that someone would go to impossible lengths for the people they care about is a power in and of itself.

What bonus challenges did you complete?

Mouse only

Did you use any sort of AI during the development of your submission?

No

Let's trade feedback! I submitted a project too.

Gameplay & Reccs: The double-jump is super tricky. It may help more to add a trajectory arrow or a radius bubble to the character. So while I have the mouse pressed down, that type of visual helper would appear so I know where I'll likely end up based on where my mouse is and the angle. Some jumps were oddly unpredictable. I'd also recommend the software or height of by jump be connected to the length of my mouse press. Pressing down for a long time charges the jump to a greater height. Where a quick press of the mouse results in a smaller jump.

Art Style: This works well. Your level designer did their job. I feel brought into the world well with the way the first part of the level starts, waking up from an accident of some kind and trying to get back to my sons. Simple story that works here.

Thank you for the feedback! A line of trajectory was something I definitely wanted to implement if I had the time or could go back. Also that’s a great idea for the mouse controls!

It's a challenging game. It took me almost 15 minutes to reach goal.

Your game reminded me of Jump King. I liked that type of challenges, although they can be frustating sometimes.

Great game! 🐸

Developer

Thanks for playing :D

It was hard but I frikin did it! I didn't know if the second jump was a bug at first, but I was intrigued cause I've never seen this before in a platformer. It's like Double Jump King lol. Thankfully the game wasn't too punishing, so I'd say well done! Took me 10:11.62 minutes to beat

Developer

I’m glad you found it interesting and was able to complete the game :)

OMG this game is really hard and make me recall the games like Jump King. This game has a lot of potential, but I think you can lower down the difficulty a bit for the earlier stag of the game. You may also consider making the text glowing, they are really hard to read with the double jump setup. Good work!

Developer

Thank you for trying out our game and the great feedback :)

Took me a moment to figure the controls but once I did I realized it was a great implementation of the mouse only challenge. Game is difficult, which I like 😏

Great job with the challenge, use of assets and gameplay... really solid entry, one of the better ones I've played :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying out our game and the kind feedback :)

I was just playing your game a minute ago and was about to comment on your entry :D

Haha awesome :D yeah I like to try as many games as I can on these jams, really helps the learning process I think :) Great job again!

Brutal! I figured it out though. If you click just barely in front or behind you'll very nearly jump in place. Once you got that down it's just a matter of edging into the correct location to line up your jump properly. A bit of a learning curve but fun once you crack you. Usually not a huge fan of those "rage" games though, usually about climbing or jumping ha.

So how much of this was intentional from the outset? Did you truly intend to make it this difficult from beginning or did you just get to that point and then figured it was better to fully finish it than spend a lot of time tuning the jumping. How early in the process did you decide on two jumps?

Developer

The original idea I had come up with was 3 extra bounces per jump and perhaps rebounding off the walls. I decided this was way too hard to control for the player and we compromised on the simpler option of just 1 extra bounce for easier testing. It also made sense to have simpler controls for the small scope of the game.

We often found ourselves playing our game even during idle moments in development and having fun trying to actually get a complete playthrough of the game from start to finish. We playtested this game so often that the double jump just kind of grew on us and we kept it as is, opting to finish the game with the limited time we had instead of implementing additional mechanics.

I didn't get very far, but I had fun playing

Developer

Thanks for trying it out :D

This is really hard!!! But in a good way, the double jump is an interesting twist on the core mechanic here, and I like that you have to kinda position yourself to read the story.

I think the connection to "power" was a little weak, but the game itself is very fun :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, and I’m glad you think it was fun :D

Great idea! It's really hard tho ^^

Developer

Thank you!

I suck lol. Not sure if I'm a big fan of the double jump and a little arrow to show the direction and force of the jump would be handy, but looks nice and functions well!

Developer(+1)

If we had more time, some indicator of the direction of the jump is something I would have loved to implement. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

The fact that you jump twice with each click is a really unique take and forces players like myself to re-evaluate our life choices haha! I had a lot of fun and learned that it's sometimes better to take smaller leaps even if those big leaps seem tempting. Took me 14mins, 228 jumps, 11 flies and some sanity to complete. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Respect for sacrificing some of your sanity to complete the game o7

Thank you for playing!

Really cool platformer with a simple yet challenging twist : You jump twice with each click!
I found the control a little difficult at first, but after I got the hang of it, the game is really fun!

Developer

Glad you found it fun!

This game was torture to play, but hey if the player "likes" it enough to beat it then YOU my friend have won.
Congrats it took me 11 minutes.

Developer

Creating a questionably enjoyable game is the goal at the end of the day. Glad to hear you liked it and completed it!

Such a cool idea for a platformer! Having to sort of guess where the second jump was going to land you was a lot of fun, though I think it would have been nice to have some sort of vague trajectory line for the first jump. The story and lore text was really cool as well. All in all, a great, slippery platformer where every succesful jump feels like a great accomplishment. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I agree it would have been nice to have implemented some way to gauge that first jump. Also glad to hear you enjoyed the short story and lore!

Submitted(+2)

This is a very challenging game, but I really enjoyed it. I probably would've given up if I wasn't so invested in Pith's lore, it really kept me interested and encouraged me to keep going. I'm glad I saw things through to the end! Took me half an hour and like 300 or so jumps lol. Thank you so much for submitting!

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I also wanted to say it really reminds me of Cats are Liquid. It's a mobile platformer about cats that can turn into liquid and it's surprisingly rich with story and lore!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game! It’s very impressive you managed to make it to the end. We certainly didn’t make it an easy game, lol.

My own personal best is 101 total jumps, 4 mins 53 seconds, and 9 flies eaten.

Submitted(+1)

Thank you thank you! Can't say it was easy, but I enjoyed it a lot!!

Submitted(+2)

Icy platforming is typically really hard to do, especially for the difficulty scaling... This one actually takes the cake.

Perhaps it's just my own skill issue that I couldn't get through the few jumps, but I like how you're forced to think ahead because of that second auto double jump.

My only complaint is the lights, because I did want to read a bit of the text, but the floor is made out of ice so I have to really skim through it.

Other than that, good game. Well done to your fellow teammates for building a really cool-looking game.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

A fair complaint :P. We made the player controls somewhat difficult with that second, uncontrollable bounce (it’s part of Pith’s lore) so it’s understandably tough to get close enough to the text to properly read the story.

Submitted(+2)

I love the game and mechanics.
Nice idea and implementation!

Developer

Thank you!
