Gonna be honest, I didn't finish this game. I plan to come back to it later, but currently being unable to fullscreen my game is screwing with my head too much. From what I saw, it was really well made, and I am excited to play more soon, probably after the judging period ends. Amazing work!!

Developer(+1)

thanks EZJCat! You were supportive since the beginning so thank you for taking the time. That was really cool of you. Yeah, toning down the difficulty next time for sure

I like the sprite work and music (volume could be a lil louder), especially the use of lighting and reflections mixed w/ old-school sprites

Was a lil confused on where I was supposed to go/what I was supposed to do besides wander around and find keys

Also died after answering the riddle? lol idk

Would be nice if the keys were either color-coded or worked on any door. It was lil frustrating to find a key and backtrack to a door I saw, only to find out it's the wrong key.

But overall a charming game!

Developer(+1)

You are totally right! It was a choice to not color code the keys. I purposely made the game confusing. There is a game I like called Gravity Bone. It’s a FPS but when you press 2, it makes you think there should be a gun to switch to but it’s missing. I tried to do the same thing by having 3 keys labeled A, C and D with no B key. Looking back, I could have just made the doors and keys match >.<

MICHAEL MYERS!!! i explored a lot and unfortunately couldnt figure out where to go after like 15 minutes then got jumped by michel myers, but really nice game, nice art, russian folk music! the only way i found to get past a micheal myers clone without waiting forever was to tank the hit after picking up a heart.

Developer

Hey Rockii! Yea, the strat it to just keep running through Mike Myers when you get hit. Don’t let him stop you from getting by because the hearts restore your HP. I just didn’t get around to making health UI but you got 3HP lol

Submitted

i know, thats what i kept doing, using my hearts to tank him

this game really feels like an adventure! the art is really cool, love the style of the game. the music choice is really nice, sounds really haunting. i will definitely come back to this and escape that darn maze!

Developer(+1)

That’s such a cool rating! Purgatorial was one of the first games I played. But I guess I didn’t leave a rating. I’ll go fix that right now. I feel like our games played kinda similar so your feedback means a lot. I didn’t have much interaction besides moving so I’m happy it felt like an adventure still.

Submitted(+1)

artsytle is good ✨
Visuals and overall color palette choice gave this game a very distinct identity, especially with the shadow and reflection effect, it did look cool but it also kinda felt uncanny at times, maybe it's the overall inconsistency of the quality of certain texture I noticed. Also the maze is brutal, I was quite confused most of the time, just wandering around grabbing coins and keys. Overall a solid entry, as a fellow newbie, congratulation on finishing your first game! πŸŽ‰

Developer(+1)

yeah, I will admit my influences were kind of all over the place. But it was my first experience doing anything like this and I had so much fun. I’ll try to make it easier next time!

Submitted

The best experience of the Bard who decided to clear the dungeon in solo.

at first I didn't understand anything, then I ran through the maze, then it became fun, and in the end I didn't understand anything either.

Developer

Aww! I admit! I made the ending too difficult. But at least you had fun in the maze! I was going to add a giant ghost that could float through walls and now I’m kinda glad I didn’t…

Submitted

don't be petty - make phantom walls right away that look like normal ones, but you can walk through them. Put one of them at the beginning of the game, and then don't put the whole maze.

Submitted(+1)

This was actually really cool! I don't know if you can beat the timelord or not but it was a really interesting experience altogether! Loved the sound design, the music and artstyle, everything really impressive! The UI was really confusing although the timer seemed cool, having the keys too big on my screen played a big part in me not being able to see an enemy and getting a hit lol. Overall great work! Really cool game!

Developer

Aww! Thanks man! Honestly, all valid criticisms. I made the Timelord super hard to beat. And the UI was meant to be obstructive. But I don’t think many people liked it as much as me. Thank you for taking the time!!

Submitted(+1)

The unique art, the animation, the color, the game itself, all are very impressive and I really love it. Very good entry for your 1st game jam! Great job

Developer(+1)

coming from you, that’s high praise! Your game was one of my absolute favorites. The controls were extremely tight. And I would have played it for hours if I could. I have a special affinity for well animated pixel art ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Excelent game! I must confess I couldn't beat it, but I liked the experience. The question of Lilith I was unable to answer because I accidentally tapped Enter before read it. And I struggled a lot to find her again. But this is a problem of mine, not a problem of the game. Congrats for the game!

Developer(+1)

Aww, that’s such a cool response. Yeah, Lilith mixes up her riddles so you have to be careful! I’m confident you can get to the end!

Submitted(+1)

Loved it, but I think I got lost in the maze like... a thousand times. Maze games are not for me, but still had a bunch of fun playing! The music was so good and it fitted the whole vibe. I couldnt get to the boss, no matter how hard I tried, so I cant comment on that one, but the rest was a great experience! Good job!

Developer(+1)

aww! I’m starting to think I made the maze too hard >>. I kinda made it like a gauntlet like the old arcade machines. It’s easy to die but you never lose too much progress so it makes you want to try again. Make sure to grab the potion in the beginning if you want to defeat the Timelord!!

Submitted(+1)

I like the visuals on the sprites (drop shadow and reflections), Music and SFX were on point.  Played for about 10 mins and found a couple coins and keys but only managed to go though one gate, I will try again and get to the boss once I have more time. Overall... I like it.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Yeah, the maze is brutal so that’s why I tried to make the environments pretty and to have the secret song so that people would play longer. I’m so stoked you tried it out! Thank you so much!!

Submitted(+1)

Lovely visuals (especially the shadows and reflections at the start!), and really good sound mixing! The timer and the key I collected seem to be too big and stretched on my monitor, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not. Besides that, Good game!

Submitted(+1)

Oh, and you did a great job on the cover! Really captured my eye.

Developer(+1)

You are way too cool for saying all that. Yeah, the off screen UI was intentional. I was trying to go for something stylish and so far everyone tells me they think they are having screen issues lol. For the sound effects, I would use two or three sound effects together whenever I needed something and I think that helped sell it. I really appreciate you taking the time to play! Thank you.

Submitted(+1)

I played the maze quite a bit and i got a couple of health items and coins. I couldnβ€˜t get to the boss though :(

I really like the artstyle of the game. The reflexions and shadow look dope, and the collectible animations are very very good. The character design is nice too, and the evil laugh of the enemies made me chuckle. The death animation is suprisingly polished. Overall great first game jam entry!

Developer(+1)

such a nice reply! I have no doubt you can defeat the Timelord. The best way to get past the bad guys is to keep running when you get hit. Thank you so much for taking the time to play. You are the best!!

Submitted

Iβ€˜ll give it another shot after playing some more entries :)

Submitted(+1)

i loved the artwork, the reflections were a pretty neat detail. I think i missed some content seeing the comments so i'll try again later, i probably already have all the maze memorized by how much i died and replayed lol. Great game, congrats specially being the first one!

Developer

it’s kinda like dark souls the way you get better at the  maze. lol I’m so so glad you liked it. I feel like have good taste in pixel art so that means a lot ^^

Super Bard Quest 3 when

Developer(+1)

YOU ARE TOO KIND! This was my first game ever. So I’m not used to any feedback. This comment is what I thought about when making this game. Made my day! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

By the way did you draw the cover

Developer

Yeah! You use a Beam Sword on the Timelord boss so I drew it so that it looks like he has a lightsaber lol

Submitted

The atmosphere in this game is insanely cool. It's so cozy yet... mysterious?...

Developer(+1)

THAT’S EXACTLY the vibe I was going for. I wanted you to vibe and go to my world to hang out. But when it gets tough, I wanted the players to feel tested. I’m happy ^^ thank you for taking the time.

Submitted(+1)

I loved the reflection effect at the start! That's super cool!

I also like the mood in the maze and the music makes you go crazy xD I stumbled in there forever but I couldn't find my way xD I got 4 red coin and the letters ACD but I couldn't figure it out. I tried the good old "always go left" technique, but I must've messed it up somewhere.

Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing! I really appreciate you taking the time. I know, it is pretty challenging. So I’m glad you played it! You are awesome!

Submitted(+1)

I didn't know the answer. Also could not for the life of me get hit by the enemies lol.

Developer

Yoo! Thanks for trying it out! I know the riddle is tough. I made it so the riddle is randomized too in case you solved one of them. I really appreciate you taking the time to play it! Thank you!

Submitted

Oh I didn't get a riddle.... It said oh you again I thought humans died after some time anyway ...  so whats the answer.

Submitted(+1)

I struggled a lot with this game. I'm really not great at mazes. However, the artstyle was really good. I particularly liked you went through the effort of adding reflection to your character. Such an artistically awesome game!

Developer

yooo!! Thank you so much! The maze is very confusing. But I’ll so glad you dug the art style. I think adding shadows to your sprites gives it a little juice, don’t you think?

Submitted(+1)

Alright, I got a little lost, maybe my bad sense of direction is really screwing me over here, lol. The pixel art is so cute, and combined with the music and the game style, it really is reminiscent of the old Zelda games. I enjoyed this though, so I'll have to come back to it and try again.

Developer(+1)

It can be kind of brutal. So I tried to make it as pretty as possible. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. Your game was inspiring to play so it's an honor to know you played mine. ^^
