Really cool! Amazing animations, good gameplay! Great start.
Congrats on making your first game. I liked how you implemented the idea of getting upgrades of the basic abilities everytime you fail. With more refinement you can make something even bigger so keep it up!
Love the aspect of learning from every mistake, wished i wouldn't make them so much tho :/
Fun game with cool mechanics! Everything runs smoothly. Keep up the good work.
Really fun game! The mechanics worked well and I had a fun time killing monsters. Good job!
Could you check out my game if you have some time, would really like some feedback.
Thanks a lot! I had a great time playing your game, awesome job!
This was really fun! Although sadly the boss didn't work, the mechanic of learning new skills as you die is really interesting, an authentic rogue-lite experience! I would recommend though a clear signal that I took damage without the need to keep checking the health bar all the time! Overall a great experience, good work! Keep it up!
Thank you so much!
Yeah, I’ve been working on fixing the boss and managed to get a playable version . I’ll update the game as soon as the jam ends.
A few friends mentioned the same thing about having a clear signal when taking damage, and I totally agree.
It’s definitely something I want to add in the future, along with more upgrades for the character!
Let me know when you update the game! I'll play it again!
Congratulations on finishing your first game jam!
The game is great, exploring the maps with the knight and learning things is very fun! Yet I need to agree with the last comment about receiving the abilities just after dying, I wish I could received it before the levels start
I loved the graphics, by the way, the sprites and animations are lovely. Overall, nice submission!
Thank you!
Glad you liked the visuals and exploration!
The idea was to unlock the first abilities that way, but dash and roll can also be earned by finishing the mission. Totally get your point though, I’ll keep that in mind for the future.
Good job on your first game!
It was a bit weird to have to die before getting abilities to do things, sort of like those scripted fights in other RPGs. The boars already feel a bit too hard to defeat with their immediate turn around and no cooldown attacks haha.
Either way not bad on your first time, hope you keep working on it!
Thank you!
The idea was to have the first few skills learned that way, but the dash and roll can actually be unlocked either by dying or by completing the mission. But I totally get what you mean!
Really nice job, especially for your fist time working with Godot. The parallax backgrounds were nice and I thought the character controls felt very snappy. There's lots of attention to detail in here, too! The enemy attacks are really communicated clearly with plenty of windup, and there's good feedback when you're attacking and when you hit an enemy. It was a little hard to see the green guys on the green forest background but that's not a big deal. Wish the boss fight was working haha. If you had more time I would recommend getting to know the camera and figuring out how to make it feel good - it's a super underrated part of platformer design that most people don't think about. I'm not saying what you did was bad, it's totally fine and honestly I'd do exactly the same for a jam game, I just mean that would be a natural next step in my mind :) Really impressive work for only 5 days, that's a lot to pack in here.
Thank you so much! Yeah, it’s a shame the boss didn’t work in the end.
The goblins were meant to be a little sneaky, but i know what you mean.
About the camera, i actually tried using the default smoothing in Godot, but it made the pixel art look blurry, so I removed it but after seeing how other platformers handled the camera in the jam, I definitely wish I had done more with it!
Yeah the default smoothing in Godot can be a little janky to work with, especially with pixel art. There might be some good camera plugins out there in the asset library to check before your next jam. Don't be like me, I spent like 3 weeks just on writing a custom camera script for another game I'm working on LOL. On the bright side, I think it feels really good now! haha
Beautiful game with solid mechanics. Getting more options for movement was satisfying, as was the levelling up system. Too bad the boss didn't work, he was looking at me all menacing-like
Thank you! Yeah, it was a shame the boss didn’t work. Looks like export messed something up.
The game fits the theme well and the concept is very nice. Getting started after every death to learn more and expand your abilities. Enjoyed it
Thank you so much! Really liked your game, the loop is really cool.
I liked the idea! there's so much mechanics you can explore! The game is really fun and impressing for 10 days, the only feature i would add is a dead zone for the camera, specifically for the vertical move. Still very fun tho!
Thank you! I tried to add a smooth camera effect, but it made the pixel art look blurry. I couldn’t figure out why so i had to remove it.
A very good roguelike, fitting the theme and well made ! Impressing for a frirst jam, way better than my game i think ^^ I did noticed a small bug : idk how to reproduce but sometime when i spam the dialogue for entering "infinite level" without getting the "access to dark lord room " in upgrades, sometimes it teleport me in, without needing to redo a portion of the infinite level. But amazing game well done !
Thank you so much! Yeah, that happened to me too, and a lot of times the Dark Lord didn't even work. I don't know why, it's like something broke during export.
Nice game. Much like Antoine said too, the repeating of dialog was a little annoying. Other than that, very enjoyable!
Thanks! yeah i wanted to add a retry button but ran out of time
I liked the way that you used the theme, and the visuals are really nice. The combat and enemies are also quite good, although some sort of parry move might have been a nice addition. Good job overall, well done!
Thanks! I actually tried adding a block/parry move for the character, but it didn’t work as I wanted, so I ended up removing it
Cool game, it is nice to see the "die and gain a power" mechanic but the fact that you always come back to the guild and have to go through all the dialogs again is a bit frustrating
Thank you for the feedback! I wanted to add a way to retry infinite mode after dying, but i ran out of time
