Nope - I've completed at least one game jam before.

How does your game fit the theme?
The game fits the theme both with the story and the gameplay!

The story follows an indie game company that are just getting started and making their first game. They decide to join a game jam to have some fun, however as they're getting started, they notice there's a weird Glitch that is occurring...

The gameplay puts you in control of The Glitch and it's all about just getting started and keeping your momentum going so you can complete the levels as fast as possible!

the character player animation is really good and the music is fun and nice to hear. the move set looks very polished and it was satisfactory to pass through the levels

Developer

Thank you very much for playing!

Very neat entry, nice work!! Love the feel of the wall slide, jumping off the wall and back on is super slick. Its really fun to zip back and force between walls in close quarters. The music is a bop. I liked that restarting was quick and easy and let me get back to the action right away. I'm not very good but seems like there is a ton of potential for speedrunning. Had fun playing your game, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and we're glad that you enjoyed it!

Pretty fun game, as from a platformer perspective, controls were responsive!

Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Fun platforming, very responsive and the ledge-adjust is very forgiving which I definitely needed a few times. I really liked the main character sprite/animations, did you make it yourself? It came out great, if so. The music is perfect for the game and really catchy as well, I think I have it stuck in my head now. I read that you wanted to have the whole world glitch out more and more and I would have loved to see that, I hope you get time to expand on it!

Developer

Thank you for your review and kind words! All the art and animations were done by my teammate Fiend! Yes I feel like that would've added to the gameplay and the story also!

Submitted(+1)

Fun: great platforming, feels responsive, the platforms were good as well, great job

Presentation: I like the art style, simple yet good, the sound design is good as well, did you draw them or did you use assets?

creativity: nice idea, fits the theme well, great job

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your review! All the art was done by my teammate Fiend, while I did the UI art (the buttons and menu layouts)

It was a really fun game, congratulations for your good job on the jam! Would love if the character was a bit faster but in general it felt pretty nice!

Also if you got the time, would appreciate if you could play our game too, thanks in advance!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! Of course, I really liked the looping mechanic in your game!

Submitted(+1)

Solid platformer with a good variety of mechanics!

Movement feels pretty solid (could maybe use either faster ground speed or maybe a lil more acceleration)

Love the glitch effect on the character, would like to see similar visual detail in the rest of the game if you continue to update this (especially in the backgrounds and enemy design)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! The original idea was to have the world get more glitchy as the game progresses showing how you're affecting the world and messing with it but we couldn't get that completed in time unfortunately!

Submitted(+1)

Makes sense, that'd be cool to see if you decide to keep working on this after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

I love the mechanics in this game! It feels so good to move around, especially the dash mechanic. I love performing glitches, this might honestly be my favourite game to just shmove around haha. Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! We're glad you enjoy the dash mechanic and the movement, that was our main goal with this game!

Submitted(+1)

I have to say, this is by far the best platforming game I've played in this jam and I don't say that lightly! At first, I was a bit turned off by the dash cooldown mechanic, but once you introduced more of the glitching elements, it all started to make perfect sense. I loved how every single mechanic is either tied to or interacts with the dash. The game and level design are both incredibly well thought out, and I especially appreciate the open-ended approach that lets me tackle each level my own way.

That said, I do have a few pieces of feedback, though! I've read the other replies, so I’ll try to point out things that haven’t already been mentioned:

  • The generic enemy blends in with the background a bit too much. It would be great if it had higher contrast or an outline for added clarity.

  • The crates didn’t feel get implemented well enough. I love the idea of glitching the particle effects, but the explosion felt too random. Making the explosions more uniform and predictable would really enhance their usefulness and impact.

  • The mouse boss fight is really well done! The variety in attack patterns is super creative and kept me on my toes (I haven't beaten it yet, it's pretty tough). That said, it would be helpful to have clearer damage feedback—at times I couldn’t tell if my attacks were landing. Also, the hitbox felt a bit unclear; I was certain I was outside the cursor sprite, but I still ended up dying.

Aside from those points, I absolutely love the character design and the little glitchy animation she has, it's such a nice touch. Once you tweak the issues mentioned (both here and in other feedback), this could become a truly fantastic game. Amazing work! And I'm definitely craving for more!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback! We're glad that you enjoyed the game and that you like how the mechanic expanded. As for your feedback, we wanted the crates to have some randomness to them to make them sort of a risk if you go for a long shortcut but in hindsight, we probably could've just kept them to be the same across the board. And for the fight, we're glad you liked it! I do agree that it is quite difficult, especially the later phases as we didn't have much time to test it out. As for the attack feedback, I wish I had more time to polish that as a few people showed confusion during the fight that the boss was able to be damaged during the loading animation.

Other than that, thank you for your feedback and kind words! And I too love the glitchy animations, my teammate did a great job with them!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool platformer you made loved the mechanics of the game there are a bunch like wall jump dash shoot projectiles double jump etc also the introduction of each level teaching the mechanics was nice that way players know exactly what to do and what they can do really great job although the game lacks a bit of art like for example a background also the tiles could be improved and you can make animations for the enemies but overall great job, if you dont mind playing my game i would appreciate that.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! As for the art, we wish we had more time to implement a background to the scene but the end of the jam came too quickly! And I just finished playing yours, great work on your first game jam!

Submitted(+1)

Really nice UI and music! I feel like this game progressing really well with introducing the mechanics and enemies. The character also felt fun to control and had coyote time and buffer jump.

For criticisms:
- It felt really bad when letting go of jump before reaching the max jump height. Variable jump height is nice in games, but some tweaks need to be made so you don't just fall instantly the moment you let go of jump without reaching max height
- The timer didn't reset when restarting a level. It would feel a lot better if it did, so if people want to try for good times, they can just press 'r' instead of going to menu and using level select

Other than that, I enjoyed the game. The only issue with the movement was the variable jump height, but the rest of it is smooth. Great job with the submission!

Developer

Thanks for playing! For the jump height, originally I wanted to make it not fall instantly but as the jam went on and other things took priority, I wasn't able to finish it. As for the timer, the intention is that you're supposed to speedrun through the whole game as if the timer reset when you died or restarted the level, it would defeat the purpose. I plan on adding a speedrun mode to the levels where you can choose to speedrun individual levels and the timer would reset then. Thank you again for playing and for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

That's a fair point about the timer. If you know about this platformer called Celeste, the way the timer works in that game is that it shows you the time you're taking for the current chapter, along with the time you've spent altogether underneath. Maybe something like that could work here.

Developer

That's a great idea, yes the way Celeste handles the timer is a good implementation and I'll definitely think about editing my timer when I update this game after the jam!

Weird , im pretty sure i rated this game , or im having a memory lose . Anyways , the anime style is cool , for 2d platformer this movement is actually unique and satisfying in its own way. The character feels very fast in some ways when dashing and i absolutely love it .I would love if you check out mine and tell me how you feel about the movement of my game.

Developer

It might be possible, the game had to be re-uploaded shortly after it was posted and unfortunately I lost the previous comments and couldn't figure out who they were! But thank you for playing, we're glad that you enjoyed it! Also just played your game and I love it!

Submitted(+1)

Super fun challenge! One thing I'd love to see is just having a different keybind option for dashing, since it was really difficult to dash on trackpad. Really really great level design and instruction design, at no point did I feel lost on the controls/different obstacles despite there being a lot of them! Loved the game

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! That's a great idea and I wish I could've added it! My easy way out was to make it controller compatible haha but I'll make sure to take into account trackpad gamers for the next time!

Submitted(+1)

Challenging platformer! I kinda wish there was more polish on it but otherwise a great base for a game.

Although you provided a back story for the game, I don't feel it ties in at all with the gameplay, so I thought that bit was weird haha, but otherwise good job.

Developer

Thanks for playing! As for the backstory, we were originally planning on having an intro cutscene and ending cutscene to explain the backstory more, but unfortunately as it usually happens in game jams, we ran out of time.

To show the theme within the game though, we did that with the art (the player and associated player things are all pixel art, while the world is drawn art), the abilities (the player can shoot, but it doesn't work as 'intended' and instead is used with the glitching ability), and the world building itself where it's sort of a demon/dungeon theme and the player is clearly out of place. Also the boss in the game is just a mouse cursor as you are fighting against the developers before they can delete you. But obviously, this is easy for me to see as a creator of the game and I can see how it might not seem like that for people playing haha.

Thank you again for playing and for your feedback!

I thought this was a very well-designed platformer that felt exciting and challenging. The music was well-fitting and made me feel hyped. I liked how the different obstacles interacted with the jump mechanic and felt very dynamic. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed it!

i don't really see the link with the theme but the game is amazing to play, really feel good like a hard but well design platformer ! need more levels and a save system if you continue to dev it, amazing game five fun stars !

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I wish I had more time to add more levels and more systems but I had to settle on the checkpoint system to fit within the time duration. As for the theme, it's all about just getting started and keeping your momentum going so you can get through the levels as fast as possible. Also, there wasn't enough time to incorporate the story within the game, but it's all about an indie game company that's just getting started and creating their game when they decide to join a game jam. However something goes wrong and a glitch occurs. You play as this glitch and you're sort of invading the original game the company was working on.

But thank you again for playing through our game!

Great platformer!! Some parts were challenging but doable! nice work!!

I c1n’t right now, but îll take the time today to play and rate this, the picture look cool !

Developer

Thank you very much!

Really great job with this one, the player felt really good to control once you got the hang of the mechanics. A few small things, it sometimes feels unpredictable how you will bounce off objects if you don't hit them from the top. Also I could not figure out how to damage the boss at the end, so that was a bit of a letdown for me. Altogether I played this game for a lot longer than I thought I would, so great job making something fun and interesting! I love that all the tools are available from the start but you might not know to try them until you've learned them later.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! The general rule of thumb is when you hit an object from the side/under, it will launch you upwards in the opposite direction but it might get a bit weird if you hit it at a strange angle sometimes, I'm not too sure!

As for the boss, you're supposed to dash into it when its doing the loading cursor animation. I should've definitely put something in during the fight that would indicate towards that but it was a last minute addition unfortunately.

Thank you again and we're glad you enjoyed it!
