"Auto repeat" is when you hold a horizontal direction and the piece repeatedly moves in that direction. It's currently quite slow and hard to control.
Ah I see, the current speed it meant to mimic NES Dr. Mario's speed, but honestly I agree its a bit slow. I'll make it faster in the next patch for all modes except classic, and it'll be toggleable in custom gamerules screen
