I don’t know how you got the sound of the main instrument you use, but it really makes me think of something that Google says is called a Boomwhacker. The rhythms you use are really intricate and make this a fun piece that would be really cool to see performed live by a group of percussionists. The flow of how this piece progresses reminds me of the theme of Besaid Island from Final Fantasy which certainly matches the beach vibe of the image you chose. The picture looks so serene and peaceful, and your use of pure diatonic Ionian harmony supports that well. Moreover, I think you just captured the vibe of what it’s like to be on a white sand tropical beach; the subtle crashes of the waves, the light breeze, the content and easy atmosphere are all conveyed in your piece despite no cliche steel drums in sight! Beautiful image selection and equally beautiful composition! Thank you for sharing!
I think the use of marimba was a good choice to evoke a more beach-type atmosphere. A lead voice and maybe some other pads (like others brought up) would be a good thing to look at in my opinion. To me, the piece didn't really develop much, so adding some variation is much needed. I did think it was cohesive overall and you have some interesting rhythms in there.
Interesting piece! I think it could benefit from some open/expansive, reverb-y pads (at least light ones in the background) to give a feel of freedom and adventure. I agree that it is a bit repetitive, but I feel the overall style fits the image well.
It kinda misses a lead voice for me, but besides that it's great! Are those synths?
That's totally fair, and thank you! I used the acoustic guitar preset in FL Studio as the main instrument, with the marimba also from the default and the piano from Sakura.
The idea fits the image and sounds good. Maybe a little repetitive ^^'.
Thank you! I agree, in hindsight I think it would have benefited from being shorter.
