got 2 points. it's an interesting twist on snake

Cool spin around the snake game! I just said to another team that they were the only ones that did a game with the concept of ouroboros, yet here you are!

Nice idea about the snake twist. Maybe it's long to make a big ouroboros at first, but that's a very surprising and interesting mechanic!

Great twist on snake, nice theming and relaxing in a way. Sure, there's an optimal pattern/solution baked in (waiting for a big fruit to spawn on the edge of the map and going around in a loop), but it was a refreshing take on snake. Also, big props for uploading the source code, I'm sure someone's going to learn a lot from it.

Nice twist on snake. I found it challenging in a good way. Great job!

I see a fellow ouroboros developper I leave a good rating, it's so interessting how this sub-theme is doing

The idea is incredible fun. Combining the classic snake game with the self eating Ouroboros was really smart. The smaller areas that you build yourself also give their own challenge in comparison to the default rectangle field, that every snake game has. Great job!

Really great idea! And well executed! As there is a very obvious best strategy, would be interesting if there are ways to make this a bit more challenging. (maybe like placing random stones on the field?) But that said, even knowing the strategy and then executing it are 2 different things. Had quite some fun with that!

Some other notes:

  • Might be just imagining things, but sometimes felt that the game went slightly out of sync. Like, that a move just took ever so slightly longer. But this is in such a game of course still very important, as quite percise inputs are needed and you are relying on the rhythm
  • It was hard for me to figure out when the best time to input a key is. Or maybe it was more that I was unsure if my key registered on my button press. One idea that comes to my mind is to make the snake look in a direction immediately on key input (so even before the move), so you are at least certain that this worked.

Overall really nice, art and music is also great :D

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Random stones could definitely be an interesting addition, maybe as a harder game mode. I used Godot's Timer node for the movement, but perhaps syncing to physics would have made it smoother. I think prematurely changing the sprite for the head is a great idea and I will probably implement that after the jam. Thanks again!

very cool spin on snake! our team actually had this idea haha, but couldn’t figure how to implement it. your implementation is very good, great work! the artstyle is quite good as well. played quite a few times :)

Took a couple of tries to actually understand how to play, but once I got it, it was interesting!

Easy to grasp, fun and creative! Twists on classic games are great, and it fits the theme nicely. I also like the indicator that shows whether the Ouroboros is possible - it shows successful game testing phase :D

Interesting twist on snake! I found it quite punishing, building up your snake and then missing the tail and losing. Also, for the first few tries I didn't understand that your next snake starts inside the old one, so I was confused why the game is over with a score of 1 when I bite my tail (there was no room for the next snake to spawn). I think I would've enjoyed it more if there's a definitive spawn point for the new snake, and your finished Ouroboroses become petrified and form obstacles in the world. This way you could start small and work your way up to larger ones, but you'd have that sense of achievement sooner :)

This is such an awesome take on Snake! Just one little added feature completely changes the game and the consequences of player actions. Brilliant design decision to have your previous body become your new boundaries, it creates such an interesting balance of risk and reward since your tail creates all sorts of unpredictable shapes as you go after fruit. I wish the indicator for when an ouroboros is possible was a little more visually prominent, but given the time constraint of the jam this is fantastic.

Fun game! It's an interesting challenge to try to figure out how long I needed to be to level up and still have gameplay left. :D

Ouroborus gang unite!

Having your previous snake become the new playfield was an awesome idea and fits the theme super well! I also really liked the idea of having fruits that make the snake grow multiple times.

I think one crucial thing you game is missing is having the snake become faster after each fruit (and reseting speed with the next snake). This would make for an really intresting risk-reward system as you would need to consider if you can handle more speed or need to cash out. With the snake always moving so slowly getting a good start currently feels more like a matter of patience

First i didn't really understand what made this stand out from other ouroboros/snake style games but then i made my first ouroboros and had it all click. Really interesting game.

Took me a while to understand but once I did I found it really quite clever! Great job!

Of all snake-derived games, this is actually a very interesting one! Making it open source is also just pretty cool.
