This feels like a very fun sandbox game! For the non sandbox levels, it would've been nice to see some obstacles that we have to build the train track around to get the player to make more abstract train loops. The start button to get the train to move was also a smidge hard to click. Overall though I think this was a solid submission for the game jam, well done! <3
I like the concept, but I am not sure how do you get more points. If I use all the tiles and close the loop do I get maximum points?
Btw. I thought there were just four level before I read comments here, you should consider adding scrollbar :)
Thanks much for the feedback:D
Yeah at the current stage: use all tiles => max points, deffinetly will fix the star meter to correctly work and only give 3 stars at max:DAs for scroll bar, who knew that black scroll bar on black BG wouldn't be visible...
As the guy below mentioned I felt like I won and got three stars without maximizing my score, if i created a loop, it seemed to give me the auto win. You probably ran out of time (I reckon the editor and saving system took a lot out of you) but it would feel way better if getting a higher score rewarded you the stars or if you had to use all the resources to complete a level. My second criticism would be about the visuals. They do not feel like they belong together. The visuals could also be a lot more coherent even if you just changed the background to be not static and stuck to vector or pixel art. You don’t need great drawing skills, but I believe that coherence of your art is really important Other than these, gameplay is great and with more polish I believe this game has great potential.
Thanks for the detailed feedback! Star system actually supposed to work (a d it actually works internally:D) but messed up with UI so 3 stars to everyone!:D
You are right about running out of time but the real culprit here wasnt editor, it actually was my saviour regarding spending time on level creation, but few features that I realized I wont do on time after spending a chunk of it on them, deffinetly with the experience i got in unity would be easier to estimate next time.
Very short and simple puzzle game. Registration on the button for sending the train off felt weird, and I admittedly struggled to figure out what I actually had to do- each level just kind of felt like I'd win no matter what I did. Nevertheless, well put-together game. Good job.
Nice game! I really enjoyed the puzzles as they became more complicated and new pieces were introduced. I think the game could benefit from some sound effects and maybe keyboard controls to quickly place/rotate pieces (something similar to Tetris). Great job!
A neat puzzle game. My only complaint is that I really wish the rotation of the last placed piece was kept in the next piece.
Interesting!! I like the idea of trying to use all the tiles, and the train is super cute : ]
Really well done puzzles! This was actually my first idea when I heard of the theme so I'm glad I didn't go with it. The art was great and the music was great.
On the first level I thought the game felt solid but pretty cookie-cutter - but I ended up playing 10 levels and actually really enjoyed the gameplay! The music is a huge hit for me, and the art works for me as well I thought it was very cute and endearing lol. Not necessarily an innovative concept, but it was well executed and felt really good to play. I was surprised how satisfying it felt to get every piece placed on one of the later levels, I know this isn't rocket science but I still felt like a genius whenever I pulled it off.
You should be very proud of what you put together - you've got a unique style that should serve you well going forward!
Great idea, funny art. I struggled a bit with the UI, not knowing when I had a rail on hand or if I had any left, but besides that it was fun trying to use all rails to get the most points.
I really like the theme of the game and how the jam theme was implemented here!
Good job! Nice loop :)
Minor UX suggestions:
- Would be great if rotation state persisted to the next tile, so that you can place a few vertical tiles one after another without needing to rotate each. Had to restart a few times because of that :)
- Also, you probably shouldn't deduct the tile from the tile container until it is placed - it was confusing, I always thought I had one tile less than I actually had :)
Good theme interpretation! We were also thinking about tracks as one of ideas :)
Thanks much for playing and for the feedback:
- Rotation state was the next thing on todo list, but couldn't make it on time:( When playtested 2nd level though thousand times that it should've been a prio:D
The levels/puzzles are real fun, and fit the theme well! Congrats on the submission :)
