I really enjoyed the game! Platforming is fun and the avoiding light mechanic gives depth, and its creative to have used a day/night loop. Great game!

Really nice platformer! I really like the story and art!

Love the art in this - the sun and moon flipping is very cool. The music fits perfectly. I would love to see more of this!!

Sorry for my English, I might get some words wrong. And remember, it’s all MY opinion, so don’t take that as a fact!

Creativity (5/5) - I really didn’t think about day/night cycles as a loop, that’s actually really clever and this is the only game that worked around it in the jam. Also, vampires! Light mechanic was really fun, not that hard but adds a marvelous twist.

Enjoyment (5/5) - Really fun, don’t really have to say much. Good puzzles, great mechanic, and responsive controls. Perfect.

Narrative (4/5) - It’s a simple story about being hungreth and going after Markus to get some blood. But it’s funny, and all the ambience makes it better.

Artwork (5/5) - The game is SO pretty and silly! The lights are beautiful, the day/night effects are on spot. I really don’t have much to say other than that I LOVE IT

Audio (4/5) - Sounds were pretty satisfying, and music is good.

Overall (4.6/5) - You may have noticed that I didn’t say much in the review… And I’ve gotta be honest, I really don’t have much to say! I really liked this game, it’s polished, creative, not frustrating at all, and a light experience! I did not expect a vampire game, nor such a great one! Good job, one of my favourites. (winner level, if i may)

Using the day and night cycle to fit in the theme is a stroke of genius. The level design is nicely done which is fundemental for a platformer such as this. The artwork brings it all together nicely. I just wish I could make it full screen in the browser.

Nicely done with the title. I really enjoyed this one, but was about ready to quit on the no window level until I realized I could move the candle with the mouse. Made a lot more sense after that.

Developer

Sorry! The tutorials in this game aren't the best, but there is big blue text on the 2nd level that says you can use your mouse to control the candle.

Took me a while to work out I could dash on that second level but once I cracked it this was a really enjoyable little game. Even if the narrative wasn't as strong as it was, it would still be hard not to give it 5 points alone for that title! I have to ask, what game first the gameplay idea or the name? Either way, a really enjoyable experience 🧛

Developer (1 edit)

We came up with the idea first, and then spent a while brainstorming names. We almost went with "You suck!" or "One bite", but then bite mark got brought up, and we were like, "what if the guy you were trying to bite was named mark?". It was too perfect.

Submitted

Ok - you get a 5 in enjoyment/narrative just for "Bite Mark"! I love some good wordplay...

Controls felt really snappy and satisfying. My only feedback was it took a second to realise I could combine jump and dash in the second level.

We actually build our whole deckbuilder around fun lexical shenanigans, so if you wanted to give it a try would love to hear your feedback

Definitely a well-made game that can be further developed by adding more mechanics

Fantastic! The game mechanics, story, and art work seamlessly together and fit the jam topic perfectly. The level design is ingenious, and the art is very cute. While the later levels were challenging for me, I still thoroughly enjoyed the game. It's surprisingly polished and complete for a four-day project!

nice and polished little game! Clever naming also

Submitted

Very cute drawing at the end!

Premise, mechanic, and concept are all solid. My biggest points of feedback were:

A.) I didn't know there was an airdash until I read the description (oops). I do appreciate the dialogue nudge you get if you fail that jump too many times though, that was well-done.

B.) Wish there were more unique mechanics! The door switch, sun zones, and spikes felt a bit generic as a totality of mechanics.

C.) A few more frames of animation for actions like falling, jumping, and dashing would have gone a long way I feel.

D.) Being able to skip the intro would have been great (I played it in web and then switched to the windows executable).

Developer

Thanks! I always like constructive feedback. I regretted not adding the dash tutorial somewhere, but I'd already stayed up until 9 AM at that point so I just put it in the description. I think a lot of the other issues would've been fixed with more time to polish, I didn't manage the time too well for this jam. I'll account for that in later jams.

The day-night loop was a really creative take on the theme! I really enjoyed how well the character controlled (despite the fact I sucked at controlling them).

This is a very interesting idea! The gameplay kinda felt like a Celeste with more of a timing mechanic. That was very enjoyable! The mouse being a light to display the level during the night where you can actually travel is something I dont think I've seen before! I think my only real complaint is that sometimes I felt like the double jump just simply wasn't working. Which very much could have been me falling off the initial ledge first then using my second jump as if it was my first. But I don't know for certain. Regardless, that was a lot of fun, very enjoyable!

Awesome level design, really uinque idea that has lots of room to expand on. I can easily see this is a full on platformer with multiple puzzles and levels and a speedrun community. Maybe the blood drinking can be added as a mechanic or something? Either way, so many well designed levels in such a short time is basically a miracle!

Submitted

Great art, story, and mechanic! I agree that the controls felt tight, but still the game was fun, great job!

Great game, best platformer I've played in this jam so far! Simple but really well put idea linking the the theme.

Really tight controls and use of the loop, good job!

I love the artstyle for this, the conrols were tight and overall it was really fun.

I like the gameplay loop (ehe) of waiting for a period of time, to plan your next moves then having to quickly execute them in quick sucession at night sections.

Also the pun in the games name is apperciated
