I wish I weren't in a hurry to return comments! I really liked what I saw here, but I feel like I only scratched the surface on this one, and I would like to see how deep it goes. A few thoughts:

  • My instinct of "click to view the full message, then start reading it" backfired on me in the workshop, where the messages automatically advanced after a second of two.
  • It's missing some explosion effects! I imagine they're a victim of the deadline?
  • At the start of each round, it takes a bit too long for the action to get going for my liking.
  • Lots of quality-of-life stuff here! Much more than you normally see in a jam game, so kudos.

Thanks for playing and the feedback.

We have a post-jam update that should address some of this.

The intro text was added late, and got dumped where we had a dialog box that could be used. Unfortunately, the auto-advance there was meant for the short upgrade flavor text messages, and ended up being a problem for the length of the intro. We've added a dedicated dialog box with manually advancing to the next message for the intro, and moved it to the start of the first combat.

The ships now have an explosion animation when destroyed.

We've sped up the first enemy getting on screen.
