How does your game fit the theme?
The player draws loops with their mouse to cast spells. Loops are featured in the environment, and the story is also a loop.

Very cool mechanic of drawing spells.
Cool mechanic! I'm wondering how you programmed the detection for number of intersections.
Hey, thanks for playing! The line you draw is made up of many small segments stored in a list. Each time a new segment is added to the list, it's compared against every other segment that came before to see whether they intersect using "funky math stuff" (parametric equations, it's actual magic to me). If the math says they intersect, then the coordinates of that point are added to a list of pending intersections. If the mouse moves a certain distance away from that point with left-click still held down, then it locks in that intersection and draws a star to indicate it registered. When left-click is released, the number of stars are counted and that's what determines which spell is cast.
I added the pending system as a sort of "dead zone" to prevent unintentional crossings when the end of the line just barely crosses over the start of the line, but it's less effective if the loop is drawn very large. That's why I'm planning on dynamically changing the dead zone distance based on the total length of the line after the jam ends :) Hopefully, that'll help make the detection more accurate.
Really loved playing this. Who doesn't want to be an epic wizard that casts spells. I did find the camera system a little lagging, but nothing detrimental especially for a game jam. Would love to see where this goes if you choose to expand it!
Thanks for the comment, happy you loved it! Do you mean that the camera was too slow to catch up to the players movements? I'll try to fix it after the jam, thanks!
This is a really unique idea with the theme! I would love to play a more polished version of this after the jam. And to find out what is that 4th spell.
Thanks! We'd wed really like to add a bit of polish and the 4th spell after the jam wraps up. We ended up working on it pretty much right up until the deadline
Such a unique idea! Way bigger of a learning curve than I expected though - you almost have to take the time to practice each spell (which isn't a negative IMO). The art and music are simple but look/sound good and fitting for the game (maybe turn down the music just a tiny bit though). I'd love to see this expanded into a full game someday.
Thanks for trying it out! In our next iteration, we want to try and make casting a little more forgiving based on the feedback we got.
Such a great idea for this theme! I enjoyed the gameplay so much, very well done
Thanks so much for playing!
This is absolutely stellar - great use of the theme, well executed gameplay. The drawing detection is finicky, but it still worked well enough that the game was enjoyable, and that's fantastic for a Jam/prototype. Really glad i came across this!
Thanks for the feedback! I tried a few different ways of detecting the number of loop crossings, but there were pros and cons to each method. If I can find a better way of doing it that works in most situations, I'll update the game after the jam!
Really liked the art style, the audio and the game play. Drawing loops to cast spells is a great use of the theme. The rock single shot-ing the zombies was very satisfying and had a few clench moments getting the protection spell up just in time! Dropping into the final boss fight and the sudden change of the music made for a great entrance. Having a few more attack options for the boss to make would have added a bit more of learning curve to the final fight. It was still a satisfying combat and I liked the ending cutscene - really nice artstyle. Overall, a fun game!
Thanks so much! Ya, the rock felt really satisfying when we got it in and had it squish the zombies :)
We would have loved to do a 4th attack but ran out of time. maybe in the next iteration
Creative game, the different spells make the game engaging and exciting, my favourite was the rock one!
Great job :D
We were really happy when we figured we could change the damage of the boulder to one shot the zombies and instantly squish them, it felt really good :)
Would have loved to have a squish sound effect if we had more time
I really liked the main mechanics, it works very well, congratulations
I really enjoyed the art. it needs a little polish but in general its great idea
Reminds me of Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood, you could melee fight this way in this game :D Nice execution of the idea, with some polishing it could make a full game, with some combos etc. I appreciate that I could jump during drawing, helped me a lot. And I like how stone spell is complicated to wrap your head around, but also powerful, fits well. Lovely!
Loved the art and the story! Super on-theme with the loop idea. Great work!
i really like this game a lot!! it definitely took me a while to figure out how to get the spells to work, but once i did, i was unstoppable B) all the spells being loops being used in an unending story loop really lends itself well to the theme. amazing work <3!!
Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad to hear you liked it :D
This was neat! Shame you weren't able to get the fourth spell in time, but the last fight was still fun without it! I would probably swap the order you learn spells two and three since there aren't really any projectiles to block with the ice shield until after the cave section. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! And ya, good comment on the spell order swap. The shield helps to block some zombie attacks too, but it feels way better to block projectiles.
TIL I can't draw a circle hahahahaha
Hey Freddie! Thanks for playing our game. If your circle wasn't registering, it might have been because the end of your line crossed over the start. Your drawing must have 0 crossings to cast Fireball. If you saw a star appear over an intersection, then the game registered that as a crossing, and it probably thought you were trying to cast Ice Shield, which you didn't unlock yet :) I wanted to make the loop detection logic more lenient, but ran out of time!
It’s really hard to draw circle 😭 I know its my skill issue.
Nice work!
Thanks! We want to improve the circle detection to make it easier in a future version
