Like with others - the ZIP file didn't work but I went digging and found the Gamepix link - so no problems there.

A simple looking, but not simple to play game. Its easy to pick up - but hard to master. It really feels like it would take a bit of practice and timing to optimise a run, which will definitely appeal to a certain audience.

I thought the controls felt a little unresponsive at times, though I assume that is because the inputs are timing sensitive, and perhaps I just need more practice.

I liked how quick it was to get into a match - though overall the UI could likely to with some refinement. I felt like there was a lot of menus/buttons/text/stuff going on just to get into the first run.

I appreciated the graphical styling and it ran well in the browser for me.

Thanks for a good time!

My team also has a runner (though very different to yours) in the jam /jam/feedback-quest-8-indiegames-x-indie-streamers/rate/3773442 If you get a little time, maybe you would check it out?

Thanks mate!

Bro this felt like an flash game but can u pls make tutorial short its too long

Unfortunately, my device couldn't extract this particular .zip file, so I used your gamepix link below to play the game.

The rolling and the rocket transformations felt fun to use, though the latter was also unresponsive. The game says to double click, but that doesn't work, so I end up clicking a bunch of times until it works.

The mechanic with the platforms that turn upside down just does not work for this type of game. I'm having fun blasting through a level, and now I have to wait for the platforms to appear? And since this is a runner there are some points where I have no method of waiting, so the platforms turn over and my character just runs to his death.

The tutorial spouting long text while I'm in the middle of trying to keep my guy alive also wasn't that helpful. Maybe you can make it so that the game pauses when a textbox shows up? Or maybe you could design the early levels in such a way that a wall is there whenever there is a textbox, so that the player can read the text at their leisure without worrying about their character running to their death.

There was also some lag, but that might be the website and not the game.

Overall fun game that could use some reworked design in a few places.

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

So, an auto runner game with various power ups to get through obstacles. It's a great concept and I do like it. The graphics are on the simple side, but I imagine that helps with keeping the memory usage low. Personally, I'd rather see this a stand-alone executable game than one embedded into a website, since browsers can really affect how well these games work. Case in point, this game doesn't operate on Firefox, my primary browser of choice. Luckily I do keep Chrome around for these situations, but it's just always better to be off browser IMO.

I did notice some sound effects that clearly came from other games; the sound effect when things shake and fall is clearly from the classic Sonic games on the Genesis, and there was another sound effect (I think for collecting the main gems) that I know I've heard elsewhere but can't place my finger on.

All that said, there's one thing that I was not a fan of: how unresponsive the game could be when trying to jump or execute certain functions (like doing the dive down thing). The jumping felt sluggish to perform and there were times where I'd have to make multiple attempts to dive down.

I'll also admit, I didn't give this game as much time as I normally would have due to one reason: ads. The last thing I want while streaming this game is to be having ads play when my audience already has to deal with ads while watching. As such, I had to cut it short for this reason. If you ever make a stand-alone version of this to play on one's PC without the ads, I'd be happy to give it another go (even if FQ8 is over by that time) to help provide more feedback for it.

Hey there. I wanted to ask if there's a non-HTML page way to play this game. I'll admit I'm wary of HTML page games as I find antiviruses can't scan them until you've opened them (since they don't actually contain anything).

Developer (1 edit)

No, it is a game that is only played in HTML5. Here is the direct link to access the game: Gamepix.com

Okie doke, thanks!

So I went to play it but found it wouldn't load up. I'd get to the screen to choose a language, but after choosing it wouldn't do anything else.

Developer

After selecting your language, the intro screen should appear normally.

Have you tried restarting the game?

What operating system are you playing on?

Jam Host

Yes, I made several attempts to restart the game. I would hear a sound from selecting my language, but nothing would ever happen afterwards.

I'm on Windows 10.

Developer

Okay, I see. Have you tried using another browser to launch the game besides the one you're currently using?

The other alternative I could suggest is to download the Android version from Google Play.

Jam Host

I'll give another browser a try the next time I'm streaming.

Sadly, Google Play isn't an option for me as I've not been able to get Android emulators working ever since I bought my current computer.
