How does the game fit the theme?
When player chose a buff, there is a drawback as well. So player needs to risk losing for the upgrade. And some rest stops are put in risky position making player risk for the upgrade.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
None

How many people worked on the game?

Jump and movement felt a bit floaty. That could be a good or a bad thing depending on what you’re shooting for. Wall jump especially was kinda tricky. There’s a lot of very niche, precise mechanics that good platformers will have such as buffering inputs and stuff, it’s actually hard to get it right for a short game jam. The upgrade system seems like a great concept, if I were to change this game at all I’d have the first upgrade take place earlier, since otherwise it’s just a completely normal platformer, and the only thing that makes your game different takes place in the second level. And since the first level is actually a little difficult, some people might not even get to your second level to see what makes your game unique!

I enjoyed the game. It needs some polish but besides that it was pretty fun. I will say, I really liked the Microsoft paint style art at the start and was a tad bummed when it switched to the gameplay sprites. But the game sprites also looked good. Overall it was a pretty fun game. Awesome job! You should totally check out my game. It's very rage inducing but in a good way. Feedback and a rating would be greatly appreciated :).

good take on the jam. The mechanics need some more polish. Especially the wall jump was tough. But overall a cute little game. If you want to go on developing this one a jump buffer and a better collision would be good. :)

I like when dash into monster and then they all die

Loved the animations but for me mechanics were way too hard. My jump didnt reach the first portal even haha

I loved the rat animation, But you should prevent enemies to hit the player from so far.

I loved the art, though I'm not sure this game is for me. The movement felt a bit slippery, and the enemies and traps were laid out a bit too densely for my capabilities. The risky buffs also seldom felt worth taking.

Very hard game. Fun idea though, think some playtesting might have balanced it

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Our level designer might have made it a little too hard, but it’s definitely still possible to beat. We didn’t have as much time to playtest as we would’ve liked.

The developer's art assets (I'm assuming) are actually pretty charming, haha. I enjoyed your fellow rat game!

Developer

Thanks, we really appreciate that! Most of the art was made during the jam, though we did reuse a few sprites from one of our developer’s earlier projects. Glad you enjoyed the game!

This is a pretty good game. I think it has some room for improvement in a couple areas, but still good!

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
