Ranked from 153 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
The character must cross a bridge that could collapse at any moment and takes a risk in the sense that the cookies baking on the other side are well worth it.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All external assets I used are listed on the game's page and also within the game itself as a way to credit their authors, who generously made them available for free and allowed for use in any project. Regarding the code, I had some drafts of path creation since the idea already existed in my mind, but I didn't have a game yet. As soon as the jam theme was announced, I created the terrain, set up its progression, designed the entire UI, worked on the character's movement and animation, recorded all the sounds (except the music), created the pixel art, etc.

How many people worked on the game?

This is great! Though I think hints would make the secret rulesets more feasable, like how the rules are allowed to be structured (will adjacency ever matter?) I lost the will to puzzle solve during the OXY puzzle.

Maybe a tutorial given rule every time a new type of rule becomes relevant? Again this one is extremely polished, would have finished it with hints! The deduction is excellent!

Developer(+1)

I liked the idea of presenting different types of rules without revealing the actual rule. I just wrote it down for future versions.

It's a shame it didn't continue in OXY, and to answer your question, in this specific rule, the block you're in matters to the next adjacent block. So you're right.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a very interesting review that will help me plan future versions.

I'm too smooth brained for this game

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you tried the game. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice puzzle game, only made it to level 6 though

Developer

Cool! I'm glad you managed to get past the first few secret levels! Thanks for the feedback.

very cool idea, the mechanics are good

Developer

Thanks mate!

i have found out my deductive skills are not up to snuff D:

cool idea though and nice presentation, plus points for localization

Developer(+1)

Many people commented that the secret rules were a bit too complex, even the first ones, and that was a good indication that I need to work on a hint system for the next version. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to properly balance the game or think about how I could gradually introduce hints for the rules as the game progresses... but I'll do that after the jam. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I really enjoyed playing your game! The idea is clever, and the game loop is solid. The progression between levels keeps things interesting and adds a nice sense of challenge.

One thing that could improve the experience is having the camera set at a higher angle. That way, the character wouldn’t cover the number of adjacent boxes, making it easier to plan your moves.

Overall, great job! It’s a fun and engaging puzzle game!

Thank you so much for the feedback!

I completely agree with what you said about the camera angle, and it's definitely something I'll adjust in future versions once the jam is over.

Good puzzle game, (didn't make it past level 3 though :))

Thanks for the feedback, mate!

Voyager 8 is also awesome! Just had the opportunity to play it.

I always enjoy when someone puts a game concept like that!
Well done 🔥

We would love you to try our game, and we would appreciate your ratings 🙌

Amazing game, really fun to play, at the beginning I didn't saw the rules so I was trying to find the rule.
This could be a very nice variant of the game: Find the rule, so you retry with some hypothesis each time until you find the rule.

If you get a chance we are looking for feedbacks on our game, a small city builder game.

Developer(+1)

Hello! The rules are only revealed in the first three stages. From the fourth onward, they are secret, and the player must discover them through trial and error.

Thank you very much for trying it out and for the feedback. =)

Regarding Popty, I tried downloading it here, and I assume it's built on Unreal, right? I'm experiencing a temporary hardware limitation that's preventing me from playing games compiled from it... it says "A D3D11-compatible GPU (Feature Level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0) is required to run the engine." =/ If there's a web version, please let me know here, and I'll be happy to try.

Submitted

Oh yes it's on UnrealEngine, and we can't have a web version unfortunately, what is your GPU ?

Developer

I'm unable to use my PC these days, so I'm using Windows in a virtual machine that's quite limited... I hope to get the PC thing sorted out by the end of the jam so I can test all the games. Fortunately, I've been able to run all the games that aren't Unreal, even if they're slow.

Submitted

Make sense, yes good luck for this

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that's a great idea and realization!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! I really enjoyed your game too!!

My brain is braining with each level from this game! The main issues here is the camera perspective where its quite difficult to see the farthest tile. Great puzzle game thought!

Developer

Yes, you're right. The initial idea was a 3D view to give the game a greater sense of depth and make it look like the character was crossing a bridge... but after I started adding the labels, I realized the perspective was a bit distracting, especially the last few blocks. Since I had limited time to deliver the game, I included information about the current block and the block currently hovering over the mouse in the UI. I hope this helped a bit. I plan to review these aspects in future versions after the jam. Thank you very much for the feedback.

Fun and challenging game

Developer

Thank you very much, mate.

I tried to download and play Ghostly but it shows an error message to me: "A D3D11-compatible GPU (Feature Level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0) is required to run the engine." This usually happens for Unreal builds here... seen in some other games, so not specific to yours. Unfortunately I won't be able to test it out. Please, let me know if you release a web version and I'll be happy to try it as it looks good on the gameplay video.

Submitted

Thank you for your message.

I will look into that error if something can be done.

Unfortunately UE5 is not allowing a web base export of the games.

Developer

Don't worry. I'm having this problem with all Unreal games. It's not specific to yours.

Submitted(+1)

That was fun and challenging for my tired and slow brain.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback :)

Submitted(+1)

I thought it was cool once you had to start figuring out the rules yourself

Developer

Yes, from the 4th phase onwards the rules are secret. But I'm planning a hint system to be implemented after the jam. =) Thanks for the feedback.

The game is really fun, the screen could use some post processing and it would be nice to have fullscreen, but the lack of those feature didn't hinder the enjoyment too much. My problem with the game is that there is no punishment for dying (i.e. limited lives), so it becomes a puzzle game rather than a risk-taking game. As a puzzle game it's solid! I just don't think it fits the theme too well.

Developer(+1)

Regarding the fullscreen option, you're right... I blocked that option in the desktop version because I wanted to force the 16:9 aspect ratio... but that was early in development. After I finished the terrain and tested it on an ultrawide monitor, I realized it didn't ruin the experience and ended up forgetting to remove the fullscreen limitation. It's good that you pointed that out, thank you.

I also understood your point about the game not fitting the theme because it has unlimited lives, but given that the game was developed with trial and error in mind, I thought it would be unfair to make the player have to go back to level 1 if they ran out of lives.

Your feedback was very valuable! Thank you so much for taking the time to test the game. I saw the Eye on the Storm trailer here and was impressed by how good it looked, but when I downloaded it, it opened the game, the Godot splash screen appeared, but the game abruptly ended with no error messages. =( I'll try it on another computer later.

Nice game! I had some graphical errors that increase the difficulty!

On the second playthrough I realised it tells you what block you are hovering over, very helpful. Good game design.

Developer

Wow, this was one of the first bugs I fixed, and I don't know how it persists on your machine. Thank you so much for taking the time to take a screenshot! It really helps.

Since I plan to continue updating the game after the jam, I'll fix this too.

Submitted

You're very welcome. If it helps, I was playing in web browser using Google Chrome.

Honestly pretty great puzzle game! Some sort of hint system would be great but not sure how to implement that without basically giving away the entire clue. Got all the way to stage 12 but honestly my brain was pretty smoked by then to be able to solve the last 2 puzzles. Figured 12 was leap years but it wasn't. After that failed I did too lol. Anyway great project, good job!

Developer

Ahh, what a shame you gave up on stage 12... you came so close to finding the solution when you discovered those numbers were years :P

I've already started planning the hint system I plan to implement as soon as the jam ends.

Thank you so much for the feedback!
