How does the game fit the theme?
You can either choose to fight the boss immediately, or walk around a bit and see if you can find a way to be stronger. Both have their fair share of risks.

Large project to make alone, absolutely fantastic! The storytelling and worldbuilding were amazing. I enjoyed the 3 lanes turn-based battle system. The only thing I disliked about the combat was that I was constantly just moving in and out of lanes and just waiting too long to strike. It seems that its the dominant strategy to win, but its not the most exciting. I ended up having to trade hits just to finish fights faster. I didn't complete the game so maybe my opinions would change if i played more and unlocked other mechanics. Keep up the good work though youre amazing
Thank you! I added the three land system because I thought it would add more strategy. Though I can understand how it may be a bit boring, especially if you're only up against one enemy.
Graphics were good. Music was too. Gave me some nostalgia vibes. Ran into a weird thing where I did the vitality quest and when I got to the entity, there was no conversation. It just sent me back to beginning of the quest with it saying it revived me and that I had failed. I had plenty of health when I reached it, so I don't know what happened there. That said, there's a lot that can be improved/refined/added so this is a really good start if you choose to continue it.
Thank you! I'm sorry about the error you ran into. The bug-fixing time period is up, so I don't think I can fix it for the jam. Is there anything else you did leading up to it? I might be able to figure out what caused it. Was it just that you interacted with the figure, it just sent you back?
Leading up to it, I was just moving and avoiding fights as best as I could. Had over half of my health. A conversation didn't happen when I got close, so I walked into it thinking that would trigger it. It happened maybe a second or two after I pushed into it and stayed there.
Did you press 'e' when you got close to it? It might not have been clear that's what you're supposed to do, since there aren't many instances before then that you're supposed to do that.
The art and atmosphere, character portraits are great!
Unfortunately I could not play further than the person asking 3 questionsbecause my browser crashed due to high memory usage. The laptop I tried on only has 8gb ram and browser takes up most of it so most likely my issue, but I havent faced with other games so I suspect a memory leak but I have no idea how one could leak memory in Godot.
The combat loop was a bit simple at the start, I am assuming there is a lot more push and pull in the future.
I did like the grip and atmosphere of what I could play.
Congrats on the feat!
Thank you for playing, and I'm sorry about the crashing!
Excellent. It focussed on the core jrpg-like game loop that sucked me in. I hope you build on this after the jam.
Thank you! I’m definitely considering expanding it at some point!
Very cool, love the visuals. How did you do sfx of text like one for every word or timed? I think the combat would benefit from sfx for attacks and maybe faster selection of actions, like WASD to move and some key bindings for attacks. Good job overall!
Thank you very much! I used the dialogic addon in Godot for the text! It automatically adds a typing effect to all text, but you can add your own sfx for it to use instead. I really did want to add sound effects to the combat, and a few other things, but I didn’t have time! If I ever come back to this after the jam, I’ll definitely be adding that!
Love the Art direction! The Battle sequence could use a little adjusting tho since the smaller enemies felt a little far away from the player for attacks to really make sense. Nice work <3
Thank you so much! I definitely agree that the combat could be much improved!
Amazing job! Crazy you did this in 1 week all by yourself. 😱 The graphics were really cool and the story was neat! At first I though it was silly that I had to move 'lane' to attack but then I immediately got the power to be able to strike all 3 lanes every third round and then I realised the lane by lane mechanic was really cool. 🙌 Great game!
Thank you! The combat took a lot of work, so I'm glad it ended up being fun!
Great job in just 1 week. A rare game. This game could be further developed with a longer storyline... :D
Definitely agree! With much improved combat, and a longer story, I think this game would be great for me to continue working on! Definitely considered it! Thanks for playing :)
Amazing amazing game , it is rare to find a turn based game in this jam like mine and yours , and the fact that you made this alone is impressive , I always loved in games where you can explore and get rewarded before going to the main thing ( dark souls hehe ) , i find the powers pretty balanced and well made , the combat was a bit basic and whatever , you were kind forced to trade with the enemy most of the time which is fine i guess , I was kinda sad about the vitality trail cause i didnt know my hp was draining till the last second , I loved the last boss fight cause it forces you to use the invisible ability , nontheless i beat it in my first try , very awesome short game , the true ruler of the land was a BADDIE tho holy mommy.
Thank you so much! My brother (the one who inspired the whole game) really wanted a game with strategy. I thought the best way to accomplish that was a combination of turn-based combat, and different abilities you can choose or choose not to get. Definitely quite a bit for me to take on, but I'm glad I did. Glad you liked Syrena ;)
A really solid game, Really liked the opening and the game vibes! > v<
Thank you!!
Engaging game with really thrilling combat. Nice work!
Thank you!!
Uhmm excuse me?! You are solo and you did all of that?! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat so impressive, good job!!
*made it to the end a decided to have mercy just like in the strength trial😥😅
Thank you! This was probably my most difficult game jam project yet! The combat caused so many problems, and I'm just glad its finished! Great job getting to the end!!
Definitely the best pixel art I've seen so far from this jam! The atmosphere was beautiful, and the open-ended nature of this was very cool. I like the three-lane combat system, but I think the enemies should have been more balanced; Some attacks were incredibly predictable and some were completely random, The combat system was still satisfying.
Thanks, that means a lot! Especially since I'm not as experienced with pixel art. I did want to add a turn queue and an indicator of who's turn was next, but I didn't have time. I'm glad you still liked the combat!
I love your concept of your turn-based battle. And stories are very interesting.
Thank you!
The game was fun and your art is top-notch! Turn based combat did become a bit predictable after a while but it was short enough to not frustrate me and it was pretty easy. But loved your and will follow your socials!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Fun game! Very pretty art and the story was interesting too!
Thank you!
I could see this being a very fun fully finished game! Could use some more balance, I walked right up to the boss and beat her first try, but not bad for the jam, I felt the stakes :)
Thank you! I was literally trying to balance it in the last few hours of the jam. That may have resulted in it becoming a little too easy. Thanks for playing!
Fun story, but found the combat either varied from repetitively easy and frustratingly slow. With some more work though, I think it could be a pretty solid system. Portrait art is very good (especially the protags design), and it general it has a decent atmosphere. Good entry!
Thank you!! :D
I had a ton of fun! I really enjoyed the positional aspect of the battles. Critiques were that the overworld mobs felt like pointless time wasters at times, waiting for them to get into specific animations before moving in to fight made some fights feel like a slog though.
Also I really felt like I was risking the ending, which was fun to contemplate the ramifications of the choice. One of the shadowy dudes asked if it was right to show mercy to an opponent who begs for it, which ends up coming up later in the game.
All in all, it was great! And it's nice to see that someone else also made a turn based rpg! Great stuff. Also, the artwork was lovely!
Thank you so much for the detailed critique! This was my first time coding something even remotely complex like this, so it’s definitely not as great as I would like it to be. Believe it or not, the combat used to be even slower before I decided to increase the amount of damage the player dealt. If you also made a turn-based RPG, I’ll have to check out yours too!
I like this game. It's different. I like how the story progresses and the battle mechanic keeps you guessing. Way to go!
Thank you so much! :D
