How does the game fit the theme?
The Gameplay mimics the feel of two people in a RelayRace. When a person completes a lap the opponent has 10 seconds to finish their lap or lose. The Risk for players is if they let their breath meter hit zero they will also automatically lose. The game fits the theme by rewarding players for taking risks. Each time a player completes a lap, their opponent will have 1 less second to complete their current lap. In short players must be cautious to survive, but aggressive to win!

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Code for Level Generation - Blackthornprod (ROGUE LIKE RANDOM LEVEL GENERATION - #1)
Music and Sound - Purchased

The hitboxes feel like they need to be tighter, I think I was taking damage but still far away from the spikey plants. I like the swimming controls, it makes for an intense couch-coop battle, great job thanks for making

was quite fun, I enjoyed it! Nice fresh approach on random generating!

Interesting take on the theme! Once you getting used to controls, it’s pretty fun!

Had no one to play with this late, so tried on my own and the strange thing I’ve observed is that you don’t have to push the button or your opponent be dead to win, games just pop up win state at some point when you are close the button.

Thank you for letting me know about the bug. I haven't been able to replicate it yet, but just to double check the win screen appeared even though neither players had touched a button and both players were alive?

Precisely, basically I was just playing for character on the top of the screen. I don’t know, maybe this is the intended behaviour and you have to actively push the but just to get close to it.

Fits the theme rather well, the choice of music is very fitting, and it's a neat idea to make a 2 player game for a jam like this, definitely stands out from the rest thanks to it.

Two suggestions I'd have is the sound when you hit the corals is very quiet compared to music so it could use some boosting or a visual indicator that you hit them. Secondly, I feel like the player hitbox could be smaller because so it's closer to the width or height of the sprite. And you might want to fix the level generation - there are white squares visible on top and bottom sometimes.

Nonetheless, very cool project, that stands from the rest with its idea <3

Played singleplayer but it was fun. Good job

Nice little gam! I didn't have anyone to play this with, but trying to go as far as possible in the obstacle course was fun on its own.

Keep up the good work!

Like others have said, I like how this is a multiplayer game! It's fun to play, but I do wish there were more levels. Great work!

Overall: It’s pretty bold to create a 2-player game for a jam entry so kudos to that! It’s fun to play, although it’s a bit unwieldy to control the swimmers at times.

Hits:

  • It’s really good to see people creating 2-player games for jams!
  • The stakes are high and the competition is fun as long as you have a partner to play with you.
  • The rules are simple to follow; the controls respond well.

Opportunities:

  • Throwing in one or two maps would help introduce some more variety into the game.
  • A time-trial one-player mode would also help singleplayers feel welcome.
  • Adjusting the collision box of the swimmers will make the movement feel a lot less unwieldy and much more forgiving.
Developer

really appreciate the detailed critique :) I like the idea of a time based mode for solo play to not limit the game to require a second person

Simple and enjoyable racing game. It took me a few runs to get the controls down, but once I did, I felt like a speed demon. Well done!

Very fun game and concept. Just wish I had someone on hand to play against. Might replay on another day for that

Fun game, nostalgia for the Flash era, good luck!

The game is fun, and it's cool to have couch coop ! What I felt missing a bit are stronger visual / audio feedback and maybe more Level.

I got my colleague to play this with me! At first, we thought we had to long-press to move, but once we realized it was click-to-move, the competition between us became incredibly fun. We both had a great time!

Well, I had no one else, so I had to race myself - which may not have been the smartest idea because it mostly involved drowning my divers before they had a chance to reach the end^^

Having an actual animation for them gasping for air was a cute detail.

The local multiplayer idea is really nice! Really creative idea! I personally did not enjoy that I have to keep spamming the buttons to move. It felt unintuitive to me, but that's just my opinion ^^ And I also felt like it takes too long to replenish the air. But overall, good game! Good job!

I liked the 2 player idea but sadly I dont have any friends to play it with..
As another commenter suggested, a single player mode would be a welcome addition!

I also liked the controls ngl. Like instead of just holing the buttons you need to spam them but then also be careful of the spikes as you dont have direct constant control over the velocity
and if you are too greedy with the speed, it has adequate risks

This definitely would be more fun if you have 2 players
Or maybe you could select if you wanna play with a friend or an ai
So if you  dont have anyone to play with you can just race the ai!

Overall a real cool entry with great controls but could use a single player mode

Local multiplayer idea is dope! Unique MSPaint visuals :) Wish it had a single-player mode...

Loved the multiplayer aspect! Took me a couple tries to realize I was losing all my air lol

i love local multiplayer one keyboard games! great entry, also, the gameplay loop is nice.

Also it was really easy to understand, which is always and indicator of good design.
