Description
Lone Rabbit OST Jam #8

After years of being apart, Pete and Jane come together on a camping trip and find each other again. They revisit their happy memories of one special summer they spent chasing fireflies in the woods.
Its a puzzle\ mini game, memory game. Revisit old memories and make new ones.
Game idea. Collect as many bugs as you can each evening and upgrade to new ways of catching them with bigger nets and such.

Thank you for listening. It was a journey to make these tracks!
Since I only had three days to work on the music, it was a real struggle for me. The idea behind the theme came after going on a hike. I was like, "Oh hey! fireflies! Kids! Fits perfectly for the theme!"

Your music is really enchanting. I like that you decided to venture into using a lot of variety within the orchestra—not just the strings, but also tuned percussion and different articulations. It really gives a symphonic feel, which makes total sense with your nickname, haha. I also love the overall vibe, it matches the jam’s theme, and especially the illustration you picked. Both go perfectly hand in hand. Excellent job!
Thank you! It took a lot to get the songs to where they are. Using the orchestra is always fun because you have to decide which instruments to use and when. It is a good challenge! I never thought of that before, that the songs have a symphonic feel like my nickname haha. Again, I am glad you got to listen!

I'd double what Eatu said about bussing. I'd play around with the piano and the space to make some things near and far.
Composition wise, I think I'd add in some upper register development, maybe some vocals. I remember just hearing the word development helped me realize that I hadn't been thinking about it to the degree that I could in my music.
Regardless, you did a great job, I liked the nostalgic sound of it, great work! :)
Thanks Kale! This means a lot! (I only just realized today that I could put the reverb on its own buss lol.) Yes, I can work on that! It would make is sound better if I had. You are both right, I need to play around with the space of the piano and bring in some sustained instruments or something. Defiantly wish I had more time to work on it! But happy with how it turned out. I will mull all of this advice over! Many thanks!
I really liked the whimsical nature of this OST! The second track was my favorite, the percussion on it communicated the forest setting really well. I could picture the game while listening to the music, which is a great sign.

I'm not sure if you have the reverb on its own track/bus and send audio from tracks to that one reverb, but if you do have it like that, I'd recommend trying the abbey road trick and putting a EQ before the reverb plugin on that track with a high cut/lopass around 10khz and a lo cut/hipass around 200hz which helps to avoid too much reverb build up from too much low and high end data coming in to it.
Arrangement wise, and this is just my feelings about it, when you have lots of staccato playing on the instruments, it might help to have some instruments playing sustained stuff in the background to help keep the tracks from feeling too "jumpy" and have a nice full sound, since for me, having most of the instruments only playing rhythmic staccatos made some parts feel a bit hollow, even if the material itself is great.
Just some stuff that came to mind while listening for me, but still really good work!
I really like the lighthearted vibes you went with in the story, and they're depicted pretty darn well in the music itself. The difference between your early demos and the final thing is pretty noticeable in a good way. My only real critique is that I think you could've had a little less reverb on the piano in my opinion, or mix the reverb a little differently so that the instrument still cuts through in the submission. But overall I enjoyed what you put together, especially with how little time you had.

It really reminds me a lot of Minecraft and parts of the Made in Abyss OST. Very warm and relaxing!
So much of this gives me Minecraft vibes with its sense of innocent whimsy and wonder. It feels like there's a layer of nostalgia over that though, looking back on those memories and laughing at the silly parts with Which Nets, longing to be able to spend those moments again with Campfire Memories, and figuring out how to make some new memories with Pete and Jane.
I should note that only as of writing this sentence have I fully read the game description and it sounds like that's basically exactly what you were going for??? Fantastic job with the storytelling, lotsa fun emotions here :)

Yay I'm glad you took off some reverbs from your initial demo it sounds much better, I really liked "Which nets" its a sweet gentle arrangement with some cool orchestration element that made a nice difference from the other tracks. Good job !
Thanks so much FoxHyode! This means a lot to me. Yeah, it is much better since I turned down the reverb. I think I still need to remove some because its a bit much. Which nets was a challenge to make because of the Triangle instrument was super loud and I was having trouble reducing its sound lol. I am glad it came out though! You guys are awesome!
A quick EQ job on the triangle would do the trick you probably don't even need to touch the volume knob, pint point the frequency you don't like and drop it. Maybe you already did it, triangle sounded nice.
Oddly enough this was also one of my first ideas for the jam, before „the thing“ happened. But I definitely like your approach more than what I had in mind. It is soooo cute and has a childish naivety (in a very positive way). It also is very laced back and ambient, so it fits perfectly with your described game Idea.
Though you had your struggles, I‘m really glad you still came through and what came out is still more than impressive.

The melodies and harmonies are straight forward and effective. Your choice of timbre adds to the intimate and cozy atmosphere. I had fun imagining catching fireflies while listening to your pleasant tracks.

Thanks! Yes, I feel like I did miss the mark with the summer feel. I needed to spend more time on that feeling. Perhaps some bug sounds in the back ground.

The playful mallet instruments fits perfectly for the childlike forest vibe. I think sometimes the soundtrack feels a bit off with its mix. I think it's just a matter of practicing and improving your mixing techniques over time.
Sweet and charming submission, well composed! Wish you had more time to flesh it out a bit more but enjoyable nonetheless :)
