Description
This soundtrack is styled after a rhythm game song pack. Linalool and Wildberry are the pack bosses, naturally, with the others being lower-difficulty songs. still is unlocked after the bosses (like a terminal song in Arcaea - Arcaea, specifically, was very much the inspiration for this submission overall).
I first researched and drafted a story for the soundtrack (which is included as part of the liner notes) as well as potential tracks to use for inspiration. I decided to incorporate multiple different genres of music into my soundtrack; for example, Linalool is an aggressive hardstyle song, where still is a calm solo piano piece.
Knowing my starting point for each song, I then experimented until I got a hook I was happy with / something that inspired me to build the actual song out of, and then worked from there (ex: Wildberry started off of my discovery that my synth for Goodbyes worked particularly well with a guitar loop I really wanted to include; I built off of that combination into the full song by adding more layers and buildups).
I used Logic Pro to compose each song.

One of the more unique electronic OSTs this jam, really creative. The third track was my favorite, really hypnotic and atmospheric, and the rhythm shifts on it were also cool!

I don’t have a whole lot of time to give much ratings/feedback on submissions, but I’m happy this one ended up in my queue because I love it, especially Linalool and Below the Skylight! I’m getting hints of Porter Robinson and Machine Girl at times, in a good way. And don’t you think Below the Skylight could use a drop section with some bass? Just an idea. But again, I really enjoyed listening to this soundtrack—it’s a creative, sonic journey that is fun to listen to. Great work!
Yeah I feel you on trying to find time to rate things- I knew I was gonna get destroyed this week because of pushing off a few things to do this but I did not know how firmly some of my classes would reject the idea of me trying to do anything else for a sustained amount of time. Oh well, gonna try to get a couple more in tonight-
My reasoning for having Below the Skylight as it is / not having more EDM influences in the first half of the soundtrack is that I really wanted Linalool to be a surprise. For example once I realized I was not gonna be able to do jazz for the slot between 2 and 3 I played around with the idea of making a Purple Verse-inspired more traditional EDM song. I’m glad I didn’t though because it would definitely have been way too rushed and I think it would have definitely made the soundtrack as a whole flow worse. That being said, I think it could definitely be cool to add more to Below the Skylight if I do a remix sometime down the line-

Crazy submission, loved it. The harsher parts are the best (especially Linalool) but the calm sections/songs create a really nice contrast, the mix is a bit chaotic but I think that's fitting so not a problem at all. Great work!

Linalool knocked me out of my chair in an awesome way lol. Great submission! Having the calm piano at the end really solidfied the story arc and gave the entire soundtrack more meaning and purpose (just more, not that it was ever lacking of course). When the full rhythm game drops (inevitable with this fire) it might be nice to hear the melodies a bit more clearly in the mix. Great work!

Below the skylight percussive panned effect and vocaloid-like are super cool wow! Amazed with the effects like Linalool, totally could see this already in a rhythm game. I like Goodbyes' kinda disordered, foreboding feel. I'm curious if you had a sense of narrative for the songs ahead of time?
Thank you! And yeah, I did write a story for this- I made a rough outline and wrote about half of it before I started composing any of the songs, and then finished it up after I composed everything. It's in the liner notes PDF if you want to read it-
Sorry! I totally missed the file. I relistened rereading with the story - I won't have as much to say as a total non-writer, but I love the story and the atmosphere the tracks create for the reader. I can see how the decisions and detail you put into the process must've helped that, really interesting read!
