Description
This soundtrack has a runtime of 10 minutes and 32 seconds (including the bonus song), and it was made in FL Studio.
Along the way of creating this soundtrack, I also realised what kind of game it would most likely be for: a visual novel!
For the story, I thought up that the main character we play as is a musician and storywriter that has recently burnt out. Because of that, they started looking for some life advice from friends and strangers!
Finally, after receiving a lot of bad or overused advice, our main character meets someone who can relate to them — someone who has experienced a lot of hardships themself.
Their name is Aisling! The main character and Aisling go to the pier on that one summer night, where they talk about the fragility of life as the moon rises.
--------------------------------------------
The first track, "The Burnout Belongs to Me," is the track that would play when introducing the main character!
This piece being the first track of the submission might suggest that it's the main theme for the game, but that is not the case! I didn't manage to finish the main theme in time 😅
The second, third and fourth tracks are pieces that would play during character encounters:
The second piece would play when talking to a person that's usually fun to hang around with, but that's just not the kind of energy you need right now;
The third piece would play when talking to a person that gives you a good piece of life advice, but not the one you're looking for currently;
And the fourth piece would play when talking to a person that gives you life advice you've heard a hundred times before already!
The fifth track is different, though, as it would play when first talking to Aisling, a person that you can finally relate to!
The sixth track isn't really a song; it's more so a sound effect that would play after getting invited to a talk at the port.
The seventh track is possibly my favourite, and it would serve as the night theme in this game, playing a few minutes before we get to the pier!
The eighth track plays when you're already at the pier; during the scene you see in the image I created: Aisling and the main character are at the pier talking about the fragility of life!
I count the ninth track as a bonus song since it doesn't really fit in with the others, but in-game it would probably serve as the ending theme!
Message from the artist
I wish everybody an awesome and nice time :D
Also, the best of luck as well!!
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
The idea of this game revolves around that one summer night, because it's the night that our main character gets to know about the fragility of life! As for the picture theme, I made the story be connected to the pier in the picture! I also put Aisling in the place of the person in the picture theme.

I think the soundtrack is pretty good overall. One small criticism I have is that certain tracks like Track 3 and 7 sound way louder than the other tracks in the soundtrack. It kind of comes across as jarring when listening to the soundtrack as a whole.
Thank you for your criticism!
Loudness in my tracks is usually a problem; it's something I've been struggling with for a while now 😅
Thanks again, and good luck in the jam :D
If you would like some advice about how to get your mixes to sound equally loud, I would look into finding a loudness meter plugin. These plugins typically have a measurement called LUFS, which measures the relative loudness of the entire track. I don't think FL Studio has a loudness plugin built in, but I looked online and it seems there is a free one.

What I really love about your soundtrack is your use of chords and sound design, especially in tracks 3, 5, 7, and 8. The guitar tone with the chords used in track 3, “Your advice is not for the present me”, sounds really cool. My main point of feedback is that some of your tracks could use a change in harmony or texture for a contrasting B section. For example, I love the sounds and chords in “Winsome Gloaming”, but a different section—perhaps a soaring synth melody—would put it over the top for me. Overall, I thought this was an eclectic soundtrack that was fun to listen to!
I see your point about having a B section, and I agree with it wholeheartedly.
That is something I'm trying to work on including in my tracks :)
Thank you for your feedback and review! I appreciate it :D
Loved "Winsome Gloaming", such a variety of styles and genres over the 10 tracks.
Thanks for your rating! :D
I'm glad you enjoyed my submission :)
Impressive work, really !
Thank you, Pyöveli :)
What a unique take on the theme, my favorite is I've heard the same advice before", just for the textures, the synths, the dark mood is very well made and all the other tracks with their own little spice is very cool. Well done !
Thank you so much!!
It did take me 6-or-so days to come up with a story to match the theme, so I'm glad you like my take on it :D
I'm also glad you like "I've heard this same advice before" — fun fact, that track actually came to be by an accident when I put too much reverb on the first character encounter! XD
Best of luck in the jam! You deserve it :)
this is sick!!! love how this really felt like a full soundtrack! very impressive that you were able to get 9 songs done in the time frame! great work on that!
I really enjoyed the more ambient and reflective tracks over the others. some of my favs were The Burnout Belongs to Me, I feel repose in thy sight, Winsome Gloaming, Real great work on this project!
Thank you for such a wonderful review! :D
While I am myself impressed that I managed to make 9 tracks, I actually intended to create two more songs XD
They were a bit too complex for me, though, so I didn't ever finish them :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the more ambient tracks; I like those a lot too!
Thank you once again, and best of luck c:
Great soundtrack, my favorite track is Winsome Gloaming! Well done :)
Thank you!! :D
I really enjoy it. The ambience and vibe suits so well.
My favorite is Character Encounter—Your advice is not for the present me, Winsome Gloaming.
I can see the potential for Synthwave Unquestionably Must Make Everyone Rollick, I imagined a section of very slow long crystalline pad, punchy 80s bitcrush snare & doggo synth sound (for the heck of it! :))
Thanks! :D
I can definitely see the potential for SUMMER as well; I'd have definitely liked it being a bit longer than how I made it, but there was pretty much no more time left when I finished it!
I'm glad you enjoyed this soundtrack :)
Best wishes!
dark and mystical in a way that i really enjoy. haven't heard much rock music in this direction in this jam, that part really stood out. great production too! awesome work; thanks for sharing :)
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it :D
Best of luck in the jam :)
same to you :)
I really liked winsome gloaming! For OTSNIFFL 2, it would be nice to see the same quality and clarity of mix in the rest of the OST that I heard in Winsome Gloaming! Very unique sound and atmosphere you created, well done!
Thanks for your criticism! :D
I'm not sure if there will ever be a continuation to OTSNIFFL, but I'll definitely keep the mixing quality in mind!! :)
Loved the ambiance of spiritual character encounter and the deep pulsing synth from winsome groaming!
I think for a main theme you definitely overdid reverbs, I imagine main theme as something with distinct tune that will be recognizable, and as much reverb kinda takes it out of the question
Thank you! :D
I agree with what you're saying about the reverb; I'll keep that in mind for the future :)
This was a nice complete OST.
None of the songs linger too long and they are all distinct but still feel like the same OST
The bonus track was probably my favorite because I like the higher energy tacks the most.
Thank you for your review, Jofes!
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the bonus track, since I wasn't actually very satisfied with it :)
Dude, this was really interesting to listen to! I was getting some Math Rock vibes throughout, which was awesome. I think my favorite track is 'Your Advice Is Not for the Present Me.' Great work!
Thank you so much for your rating!! :D
That one is also one of my favourites; thanks for listening :)
