Description
Conscience, Time.. One summer night... Yeah let's tell a story inspired from near death experiences, hypnosis, astral projections, full consciousness meditation.
There's a common thing here. Accessing some wider conscience, touching the truth, slipping out of your body.
There's a ton of people talking about how they healed, how they met a deceased loved one, remembered previous lives, saw the matrix and other wild stuff.
Well this soundtrack and game are going for this :)
I wanted to use more real instruments now that I have more room to record. That was a fun challenge ! (guitars, percs, flute, whistle, voices, etc...)
Short ideas of each track :
1 - One summer night, peace of mind and happy memories, slipping out of the body, and somehow glitching between two states, stuck in a mystery... nervous tension something's coming.
2 - Exploring a new unsettling environnement, facing some deep emotional discovery, something vertigo, the secret you wanted to run away from but it runs in your face
3 - Well no choice but to face it.
It leaves a print on the soul, feels blurred afterwards
4 - Black-out. Peace coming back. You're waking. It's liberating.
Coming back to life/earth, that summer night.
Apeased now with the memories of this journey

How does it fit the theme?
"One Summer Night" evoked some sweet childhood memories to me. Peace, and the feeling that time isn't there, you're just aware of existence. It linked with what many people witness in near death experiences, astral projection, or call it wyw.

Yo this is sick, you're instrumentation rocks
Don't you hate it when you're minding your business on a summer night, and suddenly you're playing Earthbound? That was the vibe I got from those howling synths around 1:20 in your first track.
I like the sort of echo on the guitar strings in "Astral Emotion," are those pizzicato strings doing that? It's a cool effect. Wasn't really expecting the direction went in towards the end, really cool vibes here.
"Blurred" has a really cool build up when that synth slowly starts fading in somewhere around the 30 second mark. From your description - "feels blurred afterwards" is represented in an interesting way by transposing previous themes to guitar and phasing them.
Overall a very nicely done OST. Great work!
Haha didn't think about Earthbound when adding these synths but now you mention it 👀. And these are the same synths doing the arpeggios in Blurred ! (But somewhat processed and subtle in the 1st song)
No pizzicato in Astral emotion. There are different bells that I used through the ost playing here along the guitar, and before the western thing it's actually also dubbed by another echoey synth that I used on song 1 and 3, but in the high register here (it's doing more in the low register on those other songs).

This is fantastic! the sheer variety of instruments that might otherwise be relegated to a specific genre (the western whistle with acoustic guitar) fit super well! this combined with the mandolin, synths and electric guitar made for a super cinematic song. Not only that, but these creative choices are backed by a KILLER mix and master as well as gorgeous harmonies. Steller submission and amazing work!

"Astral Projection" => this brought me back to the time I played Wild Arms (eons ago, lol), the whistling is the chef's kiss.
You don't shy away from experimental techniques and sound design to bring out your narrative.

Leaving This Life - Starting off with that simple, beautiful acoustic guitar, then gradually adding in more ethereal sounds, until at the end of that whimsical piano section, the balance between the real and ethereal switches...it's magical and brilliant! The following section is also wonderful, kinda reminds me of Debussy and other impressionist artists in a really good way.
Astral Emotion - The guitar feels so good to listen to, even if it seems to be repeating a lot, the way you continue to add and remove supporting elements keeps it engaging to listen to throughout. The second half is also great, you nailed the feeling of setting off into an unknown land.
Blurred - I love how in a stark contrast to the previous two tracks, there's a noticeable lack of melodic elements to start off. Really makes the listener feel a bit lost compared to before. Then the deep drums which keep growing in presence, along with that repeating motif, creates a great sense of tension and foreboding. The guitar coming back with a melody at the end, but with a distorted, lost melody, then leading into the transition is great! I wish I came up with something like that at the end of my 3rd track to convey the sense of returning from another world to reality. Brilliant stuff!
Living My Life - The transition giving away to a delicate melody that seems lost, then slowly regains its strength and finds direction is beautiful. The rest of the track is just ear candy, so nice and lovely. Gorgeous end to an amazing OST.
Really really awesome work on this OST! I had to listen to this track 3 times before I could even start writing this comment because there's so much good stuff going on. Listening to submissions like this really inspires me to try and incorporate some live playing into my next submission. (That whistling was so cool!) Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic OST!
Thank you so much for the detail Bodo ! I like your reflection on Blurred about the absence of melody that helps getting lost, it helps identifiying some aspects that I didn't worded consciously. And about that guitar part at the end of this 3rd track. Happy it inspired you, I was actually really unsure where to put that part. It was derived from the 'western part' and I had it early in the process. In my mind it was gonna be something emanating from a radio, which would be a connexion for the character while changing dimension. I couldn't dig the story more and decided to include this 'interlude' in the 3rd track to help it connect to the previous song, and prepare the next one...
Please do include more live instruments in your next creation if you will, I'd be curious to hear that ! That's actually what I wanted to try after the previous jam, and damn that was opening some creative possibilities and it was so fun !

A remarkable mixture of latin, synth, and country music all in one soundtrack! It certainly has a very mysterious and entrancing vibe which draws the listener in. I only wish that there were more tracks to listen to. Incredible work!

Leaving This Life: Wow. Loving this guitar work. Subtly ethereal. And then that soft piano is delicious. And then the creepy devolving synths? Superb.
Astral Emotion: Great chord choices. The percussive elements are really nice. The whistling and western feel later in was surprising but well executed!
Blurred: WOW. This combination of choir, perc and synths, coupled with the chord choices, otherworldly. GREAT WORK and my favorite track here.
Living My Life: Very pretty close to the ost. Nice piano and guitars again.

The cover art made me laugh. Just seeing the person copied and ghostly but still in the same stance looked goofy to me.
Using live instruments and a wide variety of them is impressive. I couldn't do that, I only know how to play percussion instruments and mallet instruments. Oh I guess I can also whistle pretty good too I think.

Leaving This Life: Your performance is gorgeous! That acoustic guitar sound is so healing and fresh. The transition to the more electronic style was unexpected and creates a strong emotional storyline in such a short timeframe. Really cool use of subtle sound effects/samples toward the end.
Astral Emotion: Listening to this track seems to be like following a stream of consciousness (or unconsciousness) through a dream. I agree that the environment is unsettling, but also there is a charm to it, especially with the added western style.
Blurred: The static beat effect with the glitchy effects are very effective in setting a particular technological mood. Alongside the reverby bells and plucky instruments, this creates a sort of mind melty experience that seems to be maybe what my interpretation of what blurred means in this context. This track highlights a really interesting strength that you have to combine many different elements into a single track that sounds really cohesive and at the same time quite unique.
Living My Life: The chromaticism and rubato of the main melody creates such character that is really impressive. The progression of the feel in this one, mirroring that of your first track, feels like waking up from a dream. I am so impressed with how many different ideas and instruments get to take a turn in this song and it still makes so much sense from one section to the next. Very impressive work.
Overall: You took us through so many different places in this soundtrack, it is quite impressive. There are so many unique sounds and nuances to this that it would take me so many listens to pick up on even half of them, I’m sure. But the end result is a complex story that is painted for us with such detail that I didn’t even need to read your description to understand what was happening. This was a treat to listen to. Excellent work and thank you for sharing!

Really understated composition to open with and in general, a lot of really nice subtlety and I love hearing that acoustic guitar. Love the weirder sounding chords being used as well.
The acoustic nature of much of this soundtrack feels great. There's a lot of tempo changes and it all feels very naturalistic. This also makes Blurred feel more impactful as those powerful chordy synth arps start playing. Probably my fave track to listen to even though I appreciated the live-playing feel of the other tracks more overall.
The motifs and vibes coming back throughout are really well done as well. It's not a super long soundtrack, but what's there gets across a little journey for sure. The songwriting in general is just excellent here and also feels very different to anything else I've listened to so far. Very impressive!

I was originally going to lead this off by saying something like 'Man im having an NDE listening to these tracks!' but on review it makes it sound like I hated them or something haha.
These tracks were awesome! I could hear almost like Xfiles or deep mystery soaking the tracks. It really Feels like how the image looks.

The way you used the acoustic guitar was wonderful, it gave so much warmth and character, and the overall recording sounded very professional, and alive as well.
My favorite track was "Astral Emotion", I especially loved that Spaghetti Western style section, it added such a unique and memorable flavor to the piece.

Super unique take, I like the chords you used and the arrangement on all the tracks, there is many style, its spooky, sweet and intense at the same time, there is almost some western spaghetti in there which is absolutely fantastic what a pleasant surprise. Great job on this one !

oh how i love the whistling in astral emotion. the glitch in blurred is so awesome and percs are awesome. it gives me slight terraria vibes. living my life could work with some basses, i think, but regardless of that its beautiful and i like how u used your leitmotif throughout the tracks !!
I guess you're talking about the 'fanfare/orchestral' part that could work with more basses ? Couldn't get more space here haha :p

The slightly detuned guitar on Leaving This Life does wonders for the atmosphere. The shift in tone around the halfway mark is pulled off particularly well.
I love the spooky melody and ambience on the first half of Astral Emotion, and the second half sounds like it could be straight out of a western. The whistle section goes crazy ngl.
The grungy industrial vibe of Blurred is a super interesting change of pace; there's some great sound design at play here.
Living My Life makes me feel like I'm at my first day of wizard school. Also the whistle comes back hell yeah

Immediately loving the opening track, it feels calm and familiar. The guitar/piano combo coming together to make the perfect oceanside melody. Lots of really great harmonic choices, and the little electronic textures and embellishments give the whole thing a lot of personality. The transition from peaceful to... anxious(?) is really great too, leading into the next track very very well.
The western vibe of the second track was very much unexpected but it's such a perfect choice for exploring some new wild environment. It still feels safe in a way though, which sets up the next track... again... incredibly well.
The sense of space in all the other tracks are incredibly good but I wanna comment on the mixing for Blurred in particular, everything feels so well placed. I love the more processed sounds, which fit in perfectly with the rest of the album as well.
Living My Life caps off everything so well, you've been through your adventure and it's time to look back on all the good, bad, and the in-between. You're home, the peace you left behind returns, but you still carry with you the lessons you learned from your journey. The callbacks to all the other tracks are so good, and I'm gonna be thinking about this entire album for a while. Absolutely amazing stuff, such a fantastic journey, holy moly.
