This was a joy to play, and it felt very satisfying to grow bigger and bigger.  I liked how it felt like my choices for each reward felt meaningful.  Sometimes though, it was hard to tell if I was bigger than a ship of similar size.

The VOD is linked below, and will be available for 60 days.  I apologize if the music drowns me out, I forgot to check levels after launching the game.

Thanks for playing!!

I had a feature to ease the "are they bigger than me or not" uncertainty, but I think I might've broken it at the last minute before uploading 😔

In principle, the game tiebreaks in the player's favor, so if you're roughly the same apparent size you always succeed. Only if the enemy is at least 10% bigger, which should be more noticeable, does it kill you. The problem is I added different sprites that made enemy sizes a bit harder to see.

A pretty cool concept, it definitely gives me the vibes of agar.io and similar games and I feel like you've nailed that vibe. I did find it a little difficult to tell what was going on visually at times and the clutter made it hard to keep on top of things and dodge enemies but I started to get a hang of it. The upgrades were also pretty cool and actually done quite well, once you get into the mid game it definitely ramps up and becomes a bit easier but that early game was brutal for me and I was skill issuing a LOT LMAO

Great game! I had a lot of fun! Music is really well matched (from anime?)

First I died fast but I tried again and again. Finally I won the whole game :D

I really like this "grap" mechanic is really fun to see how you eating everything around you :D

Great upgrade mechanic, it always work good, here as well. Background is really good, make nice atmosphere of the game.

To improve I think some small tutorial, I did died fast at first play. There could be problem for someone who doesn't want to put some time to understand the game. Second think is to make game more challenging in later part, I had some feeling that I cannot loose but just pressing one move button.

Overall great job and congratulations on your submission!

I LOVED agar.io as a kid and it's really sick seeing that concept be made into a survivors-like with random upgrades. The visuals look really nice and definitely evokes the feeling of old .io games, and the animation on the player and the tentacle looks so good. I don't know if this is a browser thing but the camera does jitter a lot and every now and then the player would just explode and cover the entire screen. A lot of my deaths also happen seemingly out of nowhere, either the lasers get too small when you get big enough or there's an invisible health bar I'm not aware of. Still enjoyed the game massively and I think with a little more polish, this could be really special. Good job on this!

Great take on the theme, and fun survivor-like game! The beginning was a little tough with how chaotic and fast everything is moving, but got really fun once I started getting powerups. The grasping tentacle one was great and the procedural animation looked really cool. Nice job!

I really like how chaotic this space feels,  and the visuals are great! The projectiles and background add to that chaos, but in a good way that makes the game exciting. I also enjoyed the upgrades; my favorite is definitely the tentacle that eats the closest ship. Sometimes I tried to chase down a small ship and it always felt like I was almost catching it, but I realized the best strategy is to quickly turn 180 degrees. Nice game, I had a lot of fun playing it!

This felt like playing an old game on my parents’ computer back when I was a kid, really fun and absolutely captivating. I got to the end and it said Victory, but I would not rest until all were consumed. Now, I drift through space, a lonely, gravitational force of eldritch nature… for all eternity.

Great job!

I really enjoyed the movement of the sprite you control, the game reminded me of a game I completely forgot about that I used to play endlessly (spore origins on the ipod classic). I thought you did a really great job of making it so there's incentive to upgrade different things as I originally thought I could just aim to be bigger than everyone but then also needed speed to balance it out.  One feedback I have is that I think it would have been nice to see what upgrades you already have and how they stack as I wasn't quite sure how that was working at times. Great job with this, I had fun playing!

A fun entry which worked for me with no glitches and the shader loaded no problems.

The music reminded me of some French music I have heard somewhere before.

Enjoyed it 👍

Fun game :) After a couple failed attempts I beat the entire thing once I realized that homing tentacles saved me so much effort lol. My main feedback would be to try and clean up the visual clutter on the screen. Great entry!

this is so much fun and addictive. the tentacles phisics are amazing, really satisfying to move and watch it jiggle.

If I could suggest something it would be to maybe reduce the ammount of dots and lights, it's kind of "eye-itching" when you play for a while (at least for me)
nice work!

Fun game! Web version worked decently for me. The upgrade system is a cool touch, and the music is pretty cool as well. I just kind of did not understand when ships despawned and which projectiles hit me. The game still worked pretty great though

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah the ships despawning is something I might rework after the jam :P the idea is that the ships each have their own hp tracker and can take damage from the bullets and will die if they get hit too many times... but in practice I'm not sure that this interaction adds much to the gameplay, especially since the player cannot shoot any projectiles of their own (...for now at least) and thus doesn't have much reason to think about enemy hp. They will one-shot every smaller ship they encounter.

...if I had more time, maybe I'd have also added a simple death animation for ships, so that you know they're getting destroyed and not just getting disappeared into the aether by a capricious piece of code spaghetti (...I mean, that is factually what's happening, but it's about presentation :P)

I love the music in this! The physics on the character are so goofy lol

Not sure if this is an issue with lag on itch (which I suspect) or what but I'm glad I don't suffer for epilepsy :D
