Took me a LOT of time to complete it. I forgot I could use upgrades with my souls... I couldnt find dash upgrade too, although in controls dash is mentioned. I did find double jump and wall jumping abilities. Very cool mechanics, reminded me of hollow knight

Wonderfully beautiful game — congrats! The music is amazing, and the mechanics are great. I just found it a bit difficult, but it’s really, really good — one of the best I’ve played in the jam. Congrats!

If you have a moment, I’d love if you could check out mine too! Play it here: https://kaijota.itch.io/graverun

I really like what you are going for with this game! I wasn't able to get past the first level with the dogbed but the music and the visuals were nice, reminded me of a game I used to play on my Nintendo 3Ds when I was a kid called "The Legendary Starfy". I do think the control scheme could use a bit of tweaking, having the attack button be "A" and the interact button be "UP" kinda threw me for a loop. It also made it kinda hard to attack in specific directions (which I did not know I could do until I read the comments) and I could not for the life of me successfully ping off those little snowball things because I could not go from hitting spacebar to hitting both the "DOWN" button and the "A" button at the same time and would instead hit literally ANY other buttons causing weird things to happen to my desktop. Overall, the controls need some work but the game is nice!

LOVE the vibe of the game, the music, level design and art style. I have played hollow knight before, so I did figure out how to move up on the balls, but the laser shooting eyes were unfortunately a bit too hard for me to handle together with the attack down jumps, so I go stuck right after the first save (for context of my skill level I managed to  get hollow knights bad ending, but that was a few years ago). Still, great game, I really enjoyed the vibe.

Very nice art! The music, the art, the gameplay, all nice and works smooth.

I haven't seen anyone talk about the collision yet though. When you get the double jump (though I'm sure you can do this sooner as well) you can hug a wall and just keep pressing space and I got outside of the world and fell infinitely doing so. It seems like your detection for being on the ground is through a collider check on the player rather than something like a raycast that's pointing down. Just wanted to bring that up!

Still this is very impressive and you should be proud!

Developer(+1)

woah thats so weird! i havent ever seen something like that. the check for being on the ground relies on godot’s built in way for checking if you’re on the floor so… i guess ill have to experiment with why thats happening!! thanks for the bug report though i appreciate it :)

Submitted(+1)

Yeah no problem! I found it by accident, which I feel like is how most bugs are found lol

Developer

alright so secretly i might be a dumbass... i put the code for resetting the wall jump with checking if you're on a wall and forgot to lock that for after you have the wall jump... oopsies!

I have called myself an idiot oh so many times when something wasn't working right and the problem was a silly little thing like that, I completely understand. Glad you figured it out, that's what matters!

Game: *floating balls that you need to attack to jump*
Me: Is this Silksong?

Think it would've been more user-friendly if you just had to jump onto them or press jump instead of having to attack, and specifically attack down.

Great otherwise (=

The difficulty level in this game was absolutely spot-on challenging..it was tough but in a good way..died many times but the game kept me coming back for more..Awesome job!!

Very cool to see a metroidvania in here! I enjoyed getting all the powerups and traversing the world. Very thoughtful map design.

Very, VERY stunning visuals and music; love whatever unsettling vibe the game has. I really am upset I was not able to get as much far as I wanted due to the weird controls, but I'd definetely finish it were that not the case. Awesome job on the jam, really surprised on how much you accomplished in such a small time period!

Major Undertale vibes!! Cute game and idea. A little difficult, especially that dog LOL. I didn't like that I had to run all the way back when I died but that's easily fixable with some kind of checkpoint or respawner 🥰

Developer(+1)

there's a save point after entering paradise using the dog bed!! im glad you enjoyed the game though!

Submitted(+1)

Ohhh!! Can't believe i missed that

Submitted(+1)

Visuals are great, unfortunately I got stuck after killing the dog, I couldn't figure out how to use the floating balls, all I could do was hit them and they reacted but not much happened beyond that

otherwise seems like a fun platformer, nice job

Developer

i am now realizing because of this comment there's a possibility people dont know you can angle the attack downward and upward...

if that's the reason you can't progress then I AM SO DUMB!!!!!!!!

Submitted(+1)

Great controls and music. I wasn't sure what to do after getting into paradise. I kept avoiding the dog, but are the orbs supposed to lift you up. Really liked the vibe of this game. Great entry!

The music and art style or soooo pretty!! good job!

Submitted(+1)

The visuals (art and colour scheme!) is so good, it was the first thing that caught my eye! Definitely one of the better platformers out there :)

Submitted(+1)

Very beautiful art and concept, incredible world

Submitted(+1)

Great work! Loved the art!

I really liked the graphics, music and idea behind the reset.
But for some reason I couldn´t pass on after I opened the gate to paradise. There was this one platforming section to the far right with the enemy that killed me faster than I could kill it. So maybe I am the problem because I also could not climb up in that section.  Can anyone give me any pointers, please?
.
I will definitely replay this game later when my brain works better :"D

Developer

you might be getting stuck on the guardian dog… the best strat to avoid that guy is to bait it out on a ledge and RUN!!! also not sure why you couldn’t climb up… i hope the game isnt breaking

Fantastic work! I got extreme undertale vibes from this one. haha. Controls were a bit strange on keyboard, and I had some issues with major lag (The music was even glitching out too?) so not sure what is going on there as the game doesn't seem super heavy in terms of graphics and assets, but overall it was a great experience! Really well done!! :D

Developer(+1)

yeah i noticed some big lag when i downloaded the game on my laptop… i really dont know whats causing it because it hasnt happened that often anywhere else! im glad you were able to have a good time regardless though!

Submitted(+1)

the controls on this are a little far spread apart for my liking, but other then that this was really good! the art was super cute the music was nice!  the whole vibe here was very calming winch I like

I rated you :3 you should check out my game too if you want

Developer(+1)

i will when i get home!!!

Submitted(+1)

This is really good! I can clearly see the Hollow Knight influence in here, especially with needing to hit the orbs to move upward, but the laser things got me good. Player controller may be a bit... heavy? If that makes sense? Like I feel like there could be better hang-time at the top of the jump. But otherwise this is very tightly made!

Developer(+1)

thats actually a really good point… ill have to look into adjusting the movement in the future!! thank you for the feedback!
