There's nothing faster than a greased scotsman!
That was a fun ride, loved the jolly vibes from it, especially the music that was just something. Nice work adapting a poem into a game!
fun endless runner, i found the voicelines you recorded funny
Really enjoyed your endless runner Cutty Sarks Chase — the heavy metal-style music and graveyard aesthetic really set a mood for the jam. I ran into one issue where the camera felt a little jerky during slide transitions, which made timing for collectibles less smooth. One suggestion would be to include a “Ready… Go!” start prompt before each attempt, so players know exactly when to start and aren’t caught off-guard.
If you’ve got a moment, I’d love it if you checked out my game and dropped a rating: /jam/gamedevtv-halloween-jam-2025/rate/3971977
— thanks so much and best of luck in the jam! 🎃
Thanks for playing and the feedback. much appreciated.
Fun runner. It took me a minute to figure out what I'm actually trying to do with sliding for pumpkins, but once that was in place, I think the challenge could start kicking in. Fun idea!
Thanks, yea I am going to try and make the important instructions like pumpkin collection clearer. Glad you enjoyed it.
I visited the cutty sark in london earlier this year, so I was curious ;) I got to 141k, nice endless runner. The music was catchy.
Ah, Cutty Sark the boat, is named after the witch from the Robert Burns poem by Tam o' Shanter, it is the style of nightdress she was wearing while dancing for the devil.
Her cutty sark o' Paisley harn, ........................................ Her short shirt of Paisley linen
That while a lassie she had worn, ............................................ That while a young girl she had worn
In longitude tho' sorely scanty, ............................................. Although severely short in length
It was her best, and she was vauntie. ............................................. It was her best, and she was proud
Tam Gets caught up in the excitement of the dance he stupidly shouts "weel done cutty sark" gets discovered - chased by the witches to the safety of nearest running water, The river Doon (as witches seemingly can't cross running water). Cutty Sark Manages to catch and pull Tams horses Tail off just as he reaches the bridge and he escapes. My photos on the games page are from the actual Kirk and cemetery that Cutty Sark danced for the devil, its not far from me.
Thanks for playing and glad you had fun.
Somebody say games can't educate? :D
Thanks for that, as a german I didn't know that
Really cool game and concept and loved the heavy metal theme music reminded me of ozzy!! I think the only suggestion i have is that the difficulty could may be increased a bit and maybe the obstacles could be more punishing. Overall really well done though, had fun playing this:)
" heavy metal theme music" in the vein of Ozzy the prince of darkness, now that is a compliment, although I don't quite hear it myself.
Thanks for playing and glad you had fun.
An endless runner base on a literary work? Awesome! ;)
A few feedback:
Nice entry overall!
:) Thanks for playing
Yes the camera should be smother and was on my to do list, but as with most things time was against us.
The pumpkins should not have reduced to zero, but it was the luck of the draw and I wanted it to be slightly different on each run.
I agree a ready button and also a pause button are a must for improvements.
Glad you could understand my accent, - was disappointed with how SFX turned out as I felt they did not quite fit in with the music, Another thing on to do list.
And I Totally agree about giving the player a few segments before the start of the run.
Thanks for playing and the many pertinent feedback points, Good luck.
Cool music, that will last in my memory :)
The music seems to have been the biggest attraction by far. Thanks for playing.
This is a super game. I reached level 3 or 4 after a few goes, didn't realise about the sliding at first, thought it would be to dodge the bats only. The story and music are great and well thought out, using the music to tell the story as you play. I trust you will score high on those, well deserved!
Thanks, was going to implement a proper high score system, but ran out of time.
Funny interpretation of the Subway Surfers with the endless spooky graveyard road.
Few comments:
Never heard of Subway Surfers - it was Temple Run I was inspired by, but i'm sure they will be same sort of thing.
"there is not much challenge" - getting difficulty set for games is really hard and I was being really conscious that I mostly make them too difficult. At the end of each level, difficulty is increased by two random elements between Game speed, Obstacle power, witch speed, horse speed, more obstacles, pumpkins less powerful etc. I made it random to make each game slightly different. But It gets really hard, I thought too quick for a casual game.
The horse changing lanes was going to be independent but in the end for quick coding, due to time restraints and easy catching made it follow the player.
Thanks for playing and the comprehensive review - much appreciated.
Cool! Temple Run looks way more interesting in terms of the environment. As for the difficulty - yeah, it’s the most complicated thing to tweak. Consider using the Monte Carlo simulation method, if the system is not super complex it is a good way to find at least close to optimal parameters.
Fun endless runner game! The sound effects and music were kind of funny haha. I would consider changing the red text to white and maybe a more tense sounding song for the game so it feels like you're being chased.
I found it to be fun too - which always somehow surprises me , but makes playtesting not so bad. Jams like this dont give much playtest time. yea not so sure of the red text now either - but you choose something and have to run with it, when you have such a short time to create something.
Good game mechanic - the animation is a bit chunky, but that could be an intended style. Overall, everything fits together well: the theme, storyline, game mechanics, visuals and audio. I can see how its vertical screen format would excel on a mobile device, but even so it works also on a desktop computer's typically widescreen format. When I first played it, I wasn't sure if the pumpkins were power-ups to be collected or obstacles to be avoided. I might suggest that any power-ups have a bright-colored aura placed around them, to indicate that they are power-ups (but as far as I know, there are no power-ups in any case). Solid overall game, good job!
It was designed to be played on phones - as are most runners of this style, thought it translated to the pc pretty good too. Yea You collect Pumking to get energy. thought this might be obscure so repeated it a few times, but nobody - me included reads the instructions. There were no powerups had ideas for them, but like everyone else ran out of time. Thanks for playing, and the comprehensive feedback.
Solid game, I couldn't help but sit on the title screen and listen to the track and enjoy the game song too.
The music seems to be everyone's Favorite part. :)
Very cool background music and graphics! Very fun idea
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Pretty good game! I had some performance issues on my old laptop (it was laggy), but it ran much better on my mobile device. I noticed that after playing for a long time, the background music stopped playing.
My current high score is 88,155 from levels 1–3. It would be great if the player could move left and right while jumping and sliding, and if it were possible to jump immediately after sliding, or slide immediately after jumping (either right after the animation or slightly before it ends).
Also, it seems harder to achieve a new high score as levels increase. For example, on my second run, I scored 60,000 from levels 3–4, but I completed level 3 faster than before and only got around 20,000 points, whereas the first time I got about 23,000 on the first level when I was still learning the controls and how to get the pumpkins.
Thanks for playing - and good score,
Good to know it is working on someone elses mobile, Godot is a bit stuttery when it starts in HTML - I have noticed many poples projects with the same issue. Also Im sure I am having memory problems if you play for a long time - Assets are probably not being freed properly. I plan on an update that reuses assets rather than deleting and remaking.
The music is not on a loop, it only plays one song per level - thought if you constantly heard it, it would get annoying. Intro has one song and game randomly chooses between two songs for a bit of variety.
Movement was deliberately limited to make the game more challenging - you are the second person to mention it and I maigh change it in the future.
I need to update the scoring system with a bonus score for leach level completed - the faster the higher. As you have noticed currently the longer you take on a level the higher you score - which is not right.
Great feedback - very appreciated.
Nice game with a good background song, also i loved those derpy bats.
Thanks,
"also i loved those derpy bats" - the bats were assets provided by the sponsors and GameDev.tv. I used AI - AnythingWorld https://www.anything.world/ and Blender to animate them, I thought they came out good too.
its very fun. i like the idea of using old poems.
Thanks, The poem has a great story and my photos on this page are from the Alloway auld Kirk and Graveyard that tam stopped at on his way home. Not far from me.
Fun idea to match the lyrics to the gameplay
That was the idea - the whole game is based on one of the stupid local legends here - Tam O'Shanter - translated the story a bit to more understandable english for the songs.
Looks fine! Enjoyed the gameplay :)
Cheers
Good job on your endless runner. Red text on the green background reminds me of the early internet days. Good use of the assets and complete game.
Thanks for playing and the complements. "Red text on the green background" - was meant to have a scary look , but you are probably right just makes it look overdone.
