The writing is really good and I loved the attention to detail in just little additions in the storylets based on your background like attention to whether you chose a character who has a wife or not. The choices are a little obvious as to what the "right" ones that will lead you to the "win" are, but overall it was really well made!
Damnnn, this one was good! The variation in presentation was fantastic, and the premise of a mysterious train serving as a definitive supernatural "One last chance" is a really good concept! I went through everyone's good endings, and I have to say, it feels good! Even if it ends the same sort of way, the setup for each character about to cross the point of no return for redemption made me want to root for them to come back every single time!
Posting this on Seth's behalf, since his Itch.io account won't let him:
I really liked the concept for this game, especially since I find topics such as mentality, the SDS, and redemption pretty compelling. I ended up going through the greed and wrath paths, to which I got a bad ending on greed and good on wrath. I could see the different storylets, but the game felt really linear which was really good that you were able to make that seamless. The title screen effects were also good
Right off the bat, visually, this is very impressive! I really like how you subtly tell the players what they should be doing without it being too ambiguous or too obvious. It helps with player immersion without it feeling too explicit. It seems as though the passages depict the journey of the character battling a vice and that came across very well in your storylets.
Sometimes the visual changes of the different storylets did feel a bit jarring. I think it might work better if there was a defined font or color palette that could be changed rather than just being so different for each one. Some of the passages did feel a little bit more geared towards one vice than the rest and some storylets felt a little out of place if you had chosen a different one.
the idea is really great and i loved the writing style, each character felt well realized in such a short time. all the storylets were fairly simplistic, but that was only really a weakness on the lust storylets because they were taking on a more complex and fraught issue. i really hate to say it like this but it felt very male in the perspective and gets way more uncomfortable than the other paths, i think your content warnings don't quite cover it. the visuals were very smart and reflected the character really well and helped a lot with the clarity and tone, something that's needed with such an outlandish and surreal premise.
I really enjoyed the idea behind this game! I love games where your character is imperfect, and is sometimes even the bad guy in their own life. I think this adds a lot of interesting motivations. All of the passages felt like they were written by the same person, so big props for that! My main critique is that choosing a route at the start sometimes only affects the ending. For example, each time I chose the wrath storyline, I never got a wrath storylet -- once I got only greed ones. I wish I could've seen those storylets! But despite that, I think the game is very well written, and the concept is a unique and enjoyable one. Well done!
I played through it some more to experience every ending, and I quite liked them all. My jaw was on the floor reading the bad ending for lust. Really powerful story!!
I was really gripped by the writing style and how you immersed the player in these different scenes. The changing colors and themes helped me clearly understand which story path I was going down and which ones I was stepping in to. It made this whole overlapping train carts concept work really well! It was an interesting take on a redemption story, where you are faced with encountering not only your own sins, but also the sins of others. To me it seems to suggest that all of these flaws are interconnected. I wasn't totally sure whether I was encountering different storylets or just different paths because I didn't play it more than 3 times, but it definitely felt jumbled up and unexpected each time. Great job!
Cool title screen. I loved the CSS Elements. Especially when entering and leaving the train I enjoyed getting to know my character through the story. I was a short man. I liked how organic learning about the player character was. I really enjoyed the chance to change your horrible impulses. I started with Lust and ended making real connections instead of being a creep. I feel like each storylet contributed as a valuable part of my journey. I really liked the Conductor. He seemed really chill.
This was incredible. I loved the concept so much and the storylets were integrated very well. All of the writing felt very cohesive and even poetic. It felt like the same voice for the most part and I enjoyed reading every word. I played two different runs with one choosing to fight my urges and one choosing to give in. The differences between the endings felt great and I feel like the buildup of your actions made a lot of sense for the resolution. I really liked the concept of getting one last judgement to turn your life around moments before death, and I feel like it all ties together so well. Amazing game!
