I love the art here! The music is also really relaxing. I struggled to understand quite what is happening most of the time, the UI could probably give some more information

Nice game and concept. I died really soon, though, so was not sure if I should just wait or what. Great visuals.

Love the artwork and concept!

This game is super fun!! The artwork is beautiful and I enjoyed growing my forest and stamping on the meat turnips, and finding little eggs to bring back to the forests. It was kinda sad that the behemoths had to die so the forests could spread, but also really fitting with the theme and the concepts of growth / decay in nature.

My only issue was that on both play throughs the game froze up and I couldn't do anything to resolve it. I played on a mac in browser, on Google Chrome - so not sure why that happened or if there was anything specific I was doing to trigger it?

Still, amazing game and one of my favorites from this jam. Really great work on this one!!

Developer(+1)

I am so sorry to hear the game froze on you. I will look into it. I develop on a mac, but don’t use chrome much but hope I can replicate it and see what is happening. Thank you for playing our game and the wonderful feedback. I am so happy you enjoyed the experience regardless of the freezing.

This is a beautiful game with incredible art and music! I was a bit confused at first because I could not find a nest for a long while, but then I finally got one and the others soon followed 😄 Great work!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words and playing our game! I relied on a random chance to spawn a nest and think it probably should be more controlled. It is possible to fully finish the game in a couple minutes, or it could take a really long time if a nest just doesn’t spawn.

wow, beautiful game! Well done! *clap*

I had some bugs that my behemoth just walk away :D but I got the idea of the game.

Congratulations on your submission!

Developer

Interesting. Did you feel like it didn’t go where you clicked? I’ll keep an eye out for that bug. Thank you for playing!

Ambitious game, and assets to back it up.

After destroying a nest, I was told to keep doing it, 3 more to go. IIRC. Then the view just sailed off into the heavens and the game was "unresponsive" so I had to wonder if my hand had fallen asleep on the W key. (It had- music too calming). Escape menu was an escape.

I had no idea my guy respawned! I think there is a glitch where if we respawn and he is mid-death he stays stood up. It was hard to see into the far reaches of the screen (until I discovered WASD). The text was quick to disappear and hard to get back.

Anyway, he got into a coupla fights with turnip boys and kind of insta-froze there. I think I may have found an exploit to keep them at bay.

I learned so much watching the tree man sprite, lovely.

Developer

Thank you so much for the detailed comment and awesome job finding so many bugs. The scope of this project was probably too large for us to complete and it showed with the last two days just trying to fix the worst bugs and get things packaged up into a playable state. There was more art and mechanics I couldn’t include, so planning to do an update to at least finish out what we had assets for and will include many bug fixes in that as well.

Again thank you for taking the time to write all this up, we really appreciate it!

very very nice art y also like the isometric hexagonal display.

I like short experiences like this one, keep on doing! :)

Developer(+1)

We targeted about 5 minutes of playtime depending on the rng :) Thank you for playing!

Absolutely love the art! I also think you found a beautiful approach to the decay theme and I really liked your choice of music and sfx. Great job!

What a great execution of a really nice take on the theme! It looks really nice, I love the artstyle and the designs. Spreading life after your behemoth dies is beautiful as well. I think a little more introduction and tutorialization would help, but it wasn’t a blocker for me at least.

Great job!

Developer (1 edit)

Appreciate the feedback and thank you for playing. I think the beginning tutorial and tips need another pass in general. Even what we had would disappear before people were ready for it. Glad it didn’t stop you from being able to play!

This is an absolutely beautiful game with a really fun theme. The artwork is really neat. Only thing is the little tooltips would sometimes disappear before I could read them so it was a bit difficult to figure out what to do next. But this game was great and would love to see more!

Developer

Thank you for playing and definitely hear you on the tips. They were a late add that needs more thought. I wanted to make it so you didn’t get another till you did the action of the first, but it also could be possible you do the action without realizing and then miss the context.

What a treat! Love the character design and concept (and the shapes in general). Obviously jam timelines constrains a lot but I can easily see a few more mechanics like the birds and some additional enemy/behaviors to make a really intricate experience.

Developer

Appreciate the feedback and playing our game! There is more we had art for that I didn’t get around to implementing I want to get to at least round things out. I always feel bad if art was made I can’t implement in time, but that is where we really need a well scoped idea. This was probably too much.

You’re preaching to the choir! Normally I’m solo, in which case I just have less/worse art. This was actually my first jam having artists and I’ve been really struggling with what a good process looks like. My only thought is to really hyper focus initially on getting silhouette/block in shapes so they can make things that are more likely to fit with the gameplay.

Developer

Yeah, the parts that I had placeholder/stubbed in worked well to swap out. When I kept it more loose I struggled to keep up once the art started coming in.

It was quite relaxing. I liked the concept of the behemoths!

Very nice game! The art is amazing and the vibe is cool. The crounchy noise are a bit underwhelming for watching our behemoth crush those insect ^^ But very good job!

Developer

Totally agree. I need to put more time into the SFX to make them more impactful

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the artwork, the music, and the ambient sfx. They worked together to immerse me in the little world. I  found the instructions initially confusing, because I didn't understand that a new behemoth would spawn after the first died. Then it was a matter of understanding the different effects depending on where it decayed. I liked exploring, finding the eggs, and hatching the birds. All in all, a very serene experience. Like others have said, I wish there was more!

Developer(+1)

That is a great callout about it not being clear that you will get another behemoth when they decay initially. Thank you for the feedback. And yeah, there was a lot more planned, and I feel bad because we have art for some of it too but there were too many bugs the last day for me to feel comfortable adding new features before everything else felt more stable.

I'm was really statisfied by looking how forest is growing. This creatures just praying theris lives! wow, that's made me think about like for a second. So cozy and cute art, you paid a lof detail in that. Great job, really. Great.

Thank you for the kind words and playing our game!

Great and original idea! Prone to world-building, too.
Really scratched the exploration itch.

This was oddly calming and satisfying. I really like the theme of nature you went after.

I liked how I was able to hear birds chirping as the forest grew. Wish I was able to see even more life! haha

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! I agree, there needs to be much more life as the forest grows out. I really like games where the world feels alive.

The concept is interesting, the graphics are really beautiful, and the execution is very good… .. but I ran into a few bugs: after clicking on a tile, the behemoth collapsed and no more appeared (I fixed it by reloading the page). After killing a nest, a message appeared telling me i need to kill other -1 nests =D

Aside from these little things, I think the only problem with this game is that it’s too short :)

Developer

Interesting. After you reloaded did another behemoth spawn if one died? I never saw the bug with a -1 nest…but thank you for reporting. I’ll have to look into that. So much scope had to be cut because of bugs that popped up at the end, but I really appreciate the feedback! Since the artist made most of the art already I feel obligated to update to at least show the features we had art for after the Jam.

Submitted(+1)

Yes, after the reload behemoths spawn everytime if one died.

Submitted(+1)

I like the design of the behemoth and the idea of dying in a spot spreading forest!

Developer

Thank you for playing!
