Such a cool idea to connect 3D and 2D. Even if I had to play this on Web and had issues with lag, I really enjoyed it a lot!! <3 Also characters are very cute :>
Sorry about the lag, but thanks for playing!!
First of all: for a jam entry this is really polished and the 2,5 D art style is phenomenal for a jam in terms of balancing efficiency and aesthetics. Where I think you could still improve the game is: treating player bias. The character seems to be very floating, especially when doing very precise jumps (like in the part with the switches and the switching platforms). You could add something like a coyote time and also buffer inputs. E.g. that if the player presses jump before touching the gound, that the input is buffered and then executed, when the player touches the ground.
It is very good that you added stuff like alternative controlls schemes and a map. This really makes the game feel like a well-rounded experience.
Great Job!
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey very good, I loved it, and had a lot of fun playing the music and SFXs are very pleasant. The animations and movements are fluid and smooth. Thanks for the game!
The minimal pixel art and animations were real fun to make, so I'm glad you liked them, and thanks for playing!^^
What a cute little game! I read some comments about lag, so I played the download version and experienced no issues with that, so it probably is a web issue.
Really like this artstyle with the little low res sprites in the low poly 3D world. Chowder’s spin jump is extremely cute, especially, and the menu art as well.
My main criticism is that the difficulty curve is a bit all over the place. By far the hardest part of the game is getting the gold key with the disappearing platforms, but then the rest of the game is quite easy, since you can get so much HP, the rapid fire is crazy strong, and double jump makes platforming way easier. Also a bit of a shame that there’s only partial controller support (had to use mouse for menus sometimes) but alas, gamejams.
The overall world structure and exploration is solid though. I especially enjoyed how one of the crystals was in the final water area, leading to a satisfying little connect the dots moments about where I’d find the other ones. Nice and dense structure to it all.
Good work overall, I enjoyed this!
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear the downloadable versions work fine!
and yeah, I think the random difficulty curves stemmed from me kinda 'making it as I go' with just the abilities and concepts in mind, so I'll keep that part noted.
I'm glad you find the art charming and that you enjoyed it!^^
very cool, simple, challenge, and addictive.
Thank you!
This was really cool! It was pretty laggy in some parts, and I wish there had been more abilities implemented, but it was overall awesome! Also, small bug, when I touched the platforms that are controlled with the switch (I wasnt inside of it when it transformed, I know thats intentional death), it just randomly killed me when I jumped on it.
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate you pointing out the lag and the platform bug, something for me to improve on and learn to fix. I definitely wanted to add more abilities but ran out of time during the jam, so it’s great to hear that’s something players would enjoy.^^
Yeah for the lag, I think it might be best to just have a downloadable version available, or at least a disclaimer saying it may lag when on browser. My game was completely unplayable on browser due to random lag I'd never seen before, so I couldn't even put it on. I don't take lag into account for the rating unless its like unplayable though, it happens to all of us!
It has some overly difficult parts due to the controls, and there's also a lot of lag in certain areas, but other than that the game is perfect and very fun.
I very much appreciate the feedback, thanks! I'm doing the best I can to optimize the lag problem for players. I'm glad you had fun!^^
Seriously, you have a really excellent game.
