Really cool entry. Visuals and sound effects were extremely pleasing! When I realized how to unlock abilities it was a super cool moment! I really do like games where you can technically do everything from the start, you jsut don't know it yet. Unfortunately for that I doesn't really much like a metroidvania to me in the truest sense, but I guess the definition is ambiguous for the jam haha. While I do like the mechanic to get abilities, I did find it a bit annoying after a while when I only need it to get a single star. Also, maybe a way to more easily shoot up? Oh and, I wish pausing wouldn't take me back to the title screen! But regardless, I liked your game a lot!
I was swearing at my screen, ngl. I'm not a fan of the frustrating type of difficulty this evokes, its the only thing holding me back from liking it more. I just found myself saying "man why everything gotta be so hard", AND you make me use keyboard? Controlling it made me felt like the guy looked, Dumb and fumbling to understand whatever wizardry you put in my stupid pinkish purple hands. It's probably a "me" problem, the game seems like it controlled as intended but it never considered me as a player and my lack of abilities, HEH.
Aside from that, I do really like the concept. It needs a bit more to be fun for me, and maybe for me that's just a controller but I was having some trouble if that wasn't clear. Thanks for making something unique though!
Loved this game, it's so clever. And it looks super good, I really liked the scribbly graphics. I think I was lucky in that I unlocked one of the abilities pretty quick by accident so I understood the map mechanic pretty fast because of that, but I think I could see people not realizing it and getting frustrated a bit, but still a really cool concept.
Biggest nitpick would be that I'm not sure if I would consider this a metroidvania, despite being an incredible and very polished little puzzle box platformer (specially for a jam).
Very interesting game, loved the visuals especially, and concept was very neat to figure out, even if it was frustrating before I did. Really solid, nice job!!
Very well-made! I especially enjoyed the sound design; it really added a lot to the general feel of things. The powerup system was also clever; I had an "Aha!" moment when I figured out exactly what the yellow squares meant".
I loved this game. Very smart and polished. Loved the sprites and animations. Great moment when you understand the powerup mechanic.
High-tier game juice, and I actually loved the game’s logo! How did you do that? The ability cycling makes me feel a slightly lesser sense of progress, but the little stars help with that. Overall, I enjoyed every power and ability!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I can see feeling demoralized by losing abilities hen you gain new ones, but I guess the idea there is that it's more about the puzzle of the world than accruing power. And as for the logo, I just spent way too long in blender on it lo
Soo polished, very nice! I didn't understand the power unlock at first, but then I was amazed. Very sad there isn't controlled support but the execution is 5/5 anyway :))
The art was really nice, loved the bright colours, also loved and appreciated the interpretation of the theme and how it factored into the actual mechanical design of the game rather than purely being in the visuals like some other games have done, it feels quite polished!
I really like the art style! Did good with minimalistic feel but also cool looking. I like that the game is hard, most game jam games are easy so its nice to have a challenge! Great job overall!
First of all, I really want to commend the polish on this entry. Everything has a sound and you can even interact with some of the environment (the lights and foliage). The menu and UI is also very clean ! Fantastic job on that front !
I must admit it took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out what the gimmick of the game was. I uncovered the entire map and ran around for a while before I found my first ability. Then, I was confused once I lost my ability to get a new one. Eventually I figured it out and I gathered most collectibles, but I did not finish. Very unique and unexpected mechanic ! I enjoyed it. Though, I think it would have benefitted from a bit more guidance to point the player in its direction.
Regarding level design, I think it is a bit on the difficult side and I found myself dying quite a bit. It could be a skill issue though.
Finally, I would like to commend the 2d character controller. It controls perfectly ! Great job !
Really neat and unique little entry imo !
How creative and different! The mechanic of getting powerups by going in specific rooms in a specific order is definitely unlike anything I've ever seen. I also love the details and flair you've added in the game, it makes the experience feel more polished. I had a great time!
Glad you enjoyed the polish, I definitely spent more time on it than I probably should have haha!
This was a delightful little treat! What a unique concept, and extremely polished to boot. The character is so silly, I love him, and all the animations add so much charm.
This isn’t really criticism per se, more of an idea, but I think this could’ve been even more interesting if the powerups weren’t obvious from the start, but you had to learn about them from the world somehow. I hit the point of “oh, okay, so that’s what I have to do” fairly quickly once I got my first powerup, and the game does become a bit more of a transparent checklist after that. Could’ve been interesting to leave the player wondering for a while. Doing that definitely would’ve made it harder to implement and test everything properly in the jam period though, so maybe it’s for the best you kept your ambitions realistic, haha.
Aside from theorizing about things that could’ve been, I have very little to complain about in this game, great work!
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
Overral a very fun and different idea from what i've seen. The main mechanic of cycling skill by the path was very interesting, but at the same time i felt my progression was very straightforward fter unlocking the map.
I had only one problem that i was perma stuck inside the spike in the are in the image.
Took about 50 min to beat, but truly enjoyed it.
Glad you liked it! Fixed the spike you found btw, thanks for catching that
