Game Description
You can fly really fast by building up momentum and by launching yourself off the small islands scattered through the ocean ! Hitting obstacles slows you down and you want to go as fast as possible to get a good high score !
How does your game tie into the theme?
You build up momentum as you're dashing and launching yourself off of the terrain!

Cool vibe with art and music. You have really nice feeling of making game that have this appeal effect.
I would love to have different perspective, in this angle and zoom in it's pretty hard to decide how to avoid.
Congratulations on your submission!
Really cute game, love animations! Aside from the brutal forest area, the thing that would help a lot is not zooming in so much on landing/relaunch, it was so painful to just start getting speed but hit something because I didn’t have time to react. I think there was also something a bit weird with turning, sometimes I’d turn and would be soooooo slowwwwww but once I straightened out, rigth into zipping along.
Fun game!
Controls are really tricky to grasp, good tutorial would be very helpful. I played for one run (not to the end), I was so bad that it was taking ages, also bug below make it hard to complete.
On web version, some textures didn't load for me - see screenshot.
Arghhh i'm terribly sorry for that bug, probably wouldn't have been an issue if i added a downloadable version of the game on itch !!
I have to agree that the controls are pretty complex to grasp though ^^ an in-depth tutorial is definitely needed to make sure everyone understands how to play !
Time is so short during gamejams though (especially when you struggle with planning ahead of time 😭) that making a good tutorial is such a headache for more complex games, offloading the work to a written guide is (i feel) often the easiest solution (even though it's definitely not the best for the player's experience 🤔)
Thanks a ton for playing though !
No worries, I also had to massively cut scope and my submission don't have sound at all, so I perfectly understand. Cheers!
Oh. My. God. I literally got obsessed with your game so much, that I played it for almost 2 hours. That never happened to me in a game jam before (well it's only my second one but still). I can't even believe this is your first entry! I had so much fun trying to discover the best way to navigate around the map and optimize the flight to get the best possible time.
The graphics are really good, and the notebook is just perfect as a tutorial.
Having played for wayyy too long I encountered one major issue for the game to be a bit more competitive friendly : the forest biome. It is so freaking difficult compared to the other two. At some point, I instantly restarted my run every time encountered one. The trees and trunks density is ridiculous and it honestly wasn't very fun in my opinion. Also sometimes the hitboxes in general can feel a bit weird and unfair.
Other than that, I think you made the best game I've ever played in a game jam, I am honestly an absolute fan and will be looking forward for your next games. I seriously hope that you'll win this one <3
Congratulations on making such a great game !!! 🔥🔥
PS : I managed to make 110s but I truly believe sub 100 is possible with no forest and no hit.
I'm pretty sure the forest was coded to have 2x more obstacles than the other biomes, that's why it's so much harder to get through !
(and yeah looking at it right now it's probably too hard for it's own good)
Hitboxes needed a bit more of tuning before being release for the jam too, especially the ruins/skyscraper's, their hitbox extends wayyy further than their actual sprite
(and who doesn't hate getting hit by a bad hitbox ^^)
I never thought anyone would enjoy my entry as much as you though !!! I'm honored !
(i'm also super happy to see so many other people enjoying it !! it's a crazy feeling !)
I'm planning to update and refine this game a whole ton in the near future so stay tuned ! (i'll also need to do more gamejams during next year, this is just so much fun ^^)
Thanks for playing !!!!! <3<3
what a unique little game! i love the style, gives me flash game vibes in the best way possible :)
i think the main thing holding this game back is just the lack of variation, i think it gets a little bit repetitive with the music and the levels, since there's so much repetition, but its a ton of fun every time things are shaken up a bit. i really enjoyed weaving through the ships at the end, i think the controls are super satisfying as well, very good weight to them
good job on this game, really good for your first jam :3
the variation in terms of gameplay elements is something i should have prioritized way earlier when working on this game !!!
Was originally planning to add more obstacles like giant clouds that would blind you as you pass through them or flying fishies to grab mid-flight for a speed boost (or something like that) ^^
Variety is for sure one of the things i needed to work more on during the last days of the jam, lessons were learned at least <3
Super happy you enjoyed playing it !!! Thanks a ton ^^
Cool hand-drawn graphics (also liked the flying 101 notebook!)
I'm so happy with how the art turned out ^^
Thanks a lot for playing !!
The boost mechanic took me a few runs to fully understand, but when I got it nobody could stop me. That's a lie, i'm horrible at this game, but it was very fun! Absolutely good job for a first game, keep it up! The art is incredible, also. I followed your work on the server and it was one I was looking forward to play.
Seeing everyone's work on the discord was such an unique experience to witness !!! I also was waiting to try out yours during the last few days of the submission period and it for sure didn't disappoint ^^ (a space octopus chef is just such a fun concept!!)
I'm glad you enjoyed my lil' game !!
Cool game! I like the art a lot, especially the dragon
I had a blast designing the dragon to be honest ^^
Thanks a bunch for playing !
I loved following your progress on Discord and was really looking forward to playing your entry. The spiral bound notebook tutorial with the sketches in the main menu was such a great touch. Also I really liked how I felt playing the game, like I was going off on some grand fantastical adventure. The landscapes changing was cool, I especially liked seeing the sunken / broken shipwrecks. The art is so charming and the game is quite fun! I wasn't sure if it would end or not or if it was maybe an endless game so I was surprised when it did end!
I actually remember audibly gasping seeing some of your game's art on the discord during the jam !! hiiii!!!!!
I was originally planning to make it an endless runner but decided against it since i felt as if making it such a game would go against the idea of going the fastest you could go,
adding health to the lil' dragon and making it limited just encouraged the player to go slow and to methodically dodge the obstacles instead of trying to get as much speed/momentum as possible :D
Went with the more fun option of making obstacles halt your momentum and just reset your speed, made it into a sort of racing game and i think it turned out nicely ! Ran out of time before i could add a free-flight mode (basically endless but with no scoring) but i'm still really happy about the whole thing !
Super glad you enjoyed my submission ! Thanks a bunch <33
Pretty fun game. I still think I don't fully understand how to use the islands to go faster. I also had some trouble understanding what was making the camera zoom in and out. I need to read the instructions again and maybe I'll get some more clarity from there. Welcome to GWJ!
The camera should be zooming outwards once you reach a certain speed so you can see what obstacles are in your path ! It does reset to a zoomed-in state when you slow down though.
As for using the islands to go faster, you basically check two things before you can actually try doing the boost:
Once these two conditions are met, you can press [S] + [Spacebar] at the same time (without holding any other direction keys) and you should be able to boost yourself off of the terrain below you !
I really need to clean up the explanations even more ! The fact that you're struggling with them definitely means i wasn't clear enough >:(
Hope you enjoyed the game still ! Thanks for playing <3
Unique concept for a game, enjoying fast flying once I figured out how to do it. Collisions sometimes were ambigous and hard to tell visually where the obstacle hitboxes started and ended. Still had fun and enjoyed this game, good job
Collisions are for sure the least refined part of the game right now, they really needed a good amount of tuning to feel fair but i ran out of time before getting into it !
Glad you enjoyed my game though ! ^^
I enjoyed it a lot, great job!
Had a lot of fun once I got the controls, I really enjoyed the balance of trying to build up speed with the islands while trying to avoid obstacles and making sure I had enough boosts to dodge. Fantastic feeling of momentum, great job!
I'm really proud of the controls ^^
Thanks for playing !!
Art style is promising, though there could be less zoom and more distinction of where the base of the trees end. Mechanically it's unique, great job.
I feel like adding customizable zoom parameters players can choose by themselves would help a ton for overall accessibility, since some people prefer games to be more/less zoomed in depending on their playstyle ^^
I'm actually really sad that i couldn't polish the obstacles's collisions and sprites, to be completely honest my time management for this jam was all over the place, i ended up adding the forest/marshy biome like three hours before the jam's end so it ended up being kinda jank in some aspects :>)
It was such a nice learning experience though, absolutely loved making everything in the game from scratch :D
Thanks for playing though ! ^^
Lovely concept, I really liked the look and feel of the game, great work!
Glad you enjoyed it ^^
Took me a second to wrap my head around the controls but I like all the systems you implemented here.
The speed boost you can do off islands feels really satisfying and the game gives a good sense of the theme, I also liked that you pulled back the camera when your speed got too high to help with obstacle dodging.
Nice work.
Did my best to juice up the take-off animation feels as much as possible, glad you enjoyed it !
I actually was also planning to add more effects to just flight in general (like wind more water trail stuff) but the whole thing looked so unpolished at the end of the jam i just decided to scrap it for the time being x)
Thanks a ton for playing ^^
What do you do? I just flew around for a while and it didn't really feel like a game cuz there was no goal and no enemies. I loved everything else especially the art and the music
Definitely should have cleaned up the leaderboards at the start of the game to make things clearer :/
If you look on the left before first launching yourself forwards, you'll see a Leaderboard ! The objective is either to fly through 10 000 meters with the lowest time possible or to race to the furthest distance you can reach in 200 seconds !
(you can gain a ton of speed by launching yourself off of terrain with [S] + [Spacebar] too, regular dashing doesn't give you that much speed)
You can switch between those two end goals with the [Switch Mode] button ^^
Glad you liked the art and music though <3
I love a good endless runner! I appreciate the biome changes, that's always awesome to see. The dragon aesthetic is one that I need to explore more, super cool entry!
We definitely need more dragon-based games out there <3
Glad you enjoyed it !! Means a lot ^^
The art is really nice and the gameplay is fun! Really feels like I'm a dragon soaring through the skies.
Tried my best at making the controls's feel as smooth as possible, pretty proud of them to be honest :D
(though of course some polish could be added to certain parts of the controls for sure!)
Thanks for playing !!
Really fun controls in this, I wish it was easier to submit my score though! Loved the art and animations a lot too!
The leaderboard definitely needs an update in regards of submitting scores,
i was hesitating between separating users with accounts or just inputting in your name to add your score to the board, went with the first option :/
(the leaderboard i used (Talo) decided to be annoying when users weren't logged in (basically didn't submit anything when you didn't have a player logged in) so i figured just adding a quick way to register would be easier than fixing the network problem :(
Super glad you enjoyed it though ! Means a lot <3
I used lootlocker for mine last game jam and it was pretty simple!
Ooh will definitely take a look at lootlocker, using talo was a huge struggle (probably my fault since i don't have much experience in this sorta stuff)
Thanks a lot ! ^^
Running on land, single wing scraping the top of the cool blue water underneath: If I were to be a dragon, this is how I would want to live, free, going as fast as I could around any obstacles that were in front of me. I never made it to any sort of finish line, but I think that is how I would want it as a dragon, not worried about end goals or "finishing" 'anything, just flying and having fun, enjoying speed for the sake of speed.
Well said indeed ^^
Was thinking of adding a freeroam mode but didn't have the time to do it during the jam, i'm planning to keep developping the game even after the jam so if you're interested stay tuned ! Got loads of things i want to add to this game ^^
