I really liked the contrast this scene has. While the art is fun and playful, the story takes a dark turn that is, at the very least, shocking for the viewer. I definitely didn’t expect it to end that way.

The clarity of the scenes is noteworthy, and I’d say it’s a strong point, as it clearly shows the progression from the phone call to the tragic outcome. Great job on the story progression.

The music felt a bit loud, which I think slightly took away from the immersion of the other sound effects. In addition to that, it’s noticeable that some sounds continue playing even after the scene changes. I noticed you made this in GameMaker, so one approach that could fix this would be stopping all sounds (except for the main music) when switching rooms—of course, assuming it wasn’t done using a sequence, which didn’t seem to be the case.

I’d say the approach was quite bold, since some people aren’t very fond of gore. But as someone who appreciates storytelling, I enjoy experiencing different styles, so I really liked this one.

Congratulations on the cutscene, and I wish you the best of luck in the jam!

Thanks for the reply, and for the music. I recorded it way to loud. It was turned down a lot on the gamemaker IDE. Also, for the switching rooms, I actually tried doing a little extra challenge and only used 1 room (if you dont count the start menu)

This is a funny story, and what I liked most about it was the spaghetti!!! But I would like to see better visual design! Overall, well done!

If you have time, please rate our work! Thank you!

Thanks for your review, I will check yours out as soon as I can

I would say that the only thing that could be done would be to improve the graphic style but for the rest it's a good job.

It was supposed to be a little funnier so the twist would catch people off guard. Maybe it was a little too bad tho

The sh*tpost art style was kinda funny ngl. The dialogue (although I couldn't hear it that well) was also funny, with the music going on.

I'd be interested to see the full release if you do decide to continue this :)

Overall: A fun entry, although needs a lot more polish

I really dig the artstyle on your entry, the sheriff has lots of personality in his facial gestures and it makes the whole thing charming. The first scene has a great level of background detail that I wish the was also present in the later scenes. The spaghetti scene feels so full of life with all the props in the background and when compared to the last scene where it is just the characters and a table in an empty room there is a noticeable difference. Props for making your own music, the intro track is really good. I didn't understand the nails-on-chalkboard screeching notes after the lady gets shot, I found the sound at this point to be very grating and a bit out of place. Cool cinematography to show the camera from the sheriffs perspective after the lady gets shot as he looks down at himself and takes in the gravity of the scene and assesses what to do. Overall, I enjoyed the action packed storyline and unique aesthetic. It was a fun watch, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review! The nails on chalkboard sound was supposed to show how thr sheriff was breaking down and and anger and guilt of being too late. And just a little fun fact about that part, it was also recorded on a guitar!😊

Ohhh that makes sense, I guess it worked perfectly because it made me feel the same sort of disorientation and panic. Really cool you made that with your guitar, creative stuff!

Your proof of real-time rendering is such a great idea :D

For the music - it's maybe too loud for me because I can't really hear much of dialog and I probably missed the explanation of the crime scene when the policemen arrive (no spoiling).

The guitar sound of psyche shaking is a good touch.

Thanks for the review! And I agree withe the loud music part. Looking back at it, I should have made it a little quieter

the art was funny. the story was good as well! im not a fan of the music in the beginning though, but the ending the music/sound effects fit the moment really well. yuh say you'll probably make a full game out of this, so that'd be cool to see if it comes to fruition!

Okay... this was special. The artstyle and music make this a bit artistic but I must admit that I really do not like gore. The last shot was very interesting, though - and well made. I think the music fits to the disturbing vibe and the grafic as well. Plus, your interpretation of the theme was dark but unique so far.

I think this is really a matter of taste with this one. I am happy that I cant vote anyway, cause I would not know how to rate it. I really like the special style, though. This is something which makes this scene standing out!

Developer

thanks for leaving the comment! I like gore stuff so I kinda had to add some, yknow? but no worries, that stuff is not for everyone

I mean you did give a warning so that’s Great :)

I did not expect what I saw. Good entry and definitely fits the theme. Sheriff was too late indeed... Simple yet fitting art style, although some things look blurry which does not quite fit (?). Music is...interesting, but (in my opinion) not the best choice, while the SFX or sound at the end fits very well! You sticked to the given time limit and the proof of real time rendering also works well.

Overall nice entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review! and I agree with the music not being the best. That was actually my first time making music for a game (or in general). And for the blurriness, It was not originally blurry but something broke and I did not want to spend another 6 hours drawing it again so I just used a screenshot.

uh... I think he was a little late

I'm gonna be serious- the moment I saw the moustache on the sheriff I thought this was gonna be a funny animation, but then it took a gritty turn!

The time limit on this jam was pretty short, and I think your cutscene could use a bit more polish. For example- the phone keeps ringing after the sheriff picks it up and in the scene with the car the music from the previous scene still plays. Then again- I always appreciate voice acting in a jam submission, so that was cool,

The graphics reminded me of the flash animations from the early 2000s, so they tickled me just the right way ;)

As for the cinematography- the camera setup was simple, but this made it very readable. Every scene was clear. The last take (with the camera shake) was really cool, and it sold the sheriff's grief and rage.

Your take on the theme was a sad and gritty one. I liked it. If you spin this into a bigger game, I'd gladly play it :)

Thanks for the review. I wanted the art to look goofy with a dark turn, makes the impact different
