Dick Storm ;D I really think he needs his own theme!
I really loved the Camera angles and how you implemented the Text Boxes. This really is a nice style. Dialogues were great, sound egfects as well. Music was fitting Even if it was a Bit generic but it was adding nicely to the vibe. Art was solid and the 2D / 3D - Mix was cool as well! :D Great Submission!!!
I like this work! I want to note that the lighting of the character, as if he were in a disco, really amused me, it's cool! I also liked the sound of blowing out candles!
If you haven't evaluated my project yet and you have some free time, I kindly ask you to do so. Thank you!
Great game, a little feedback I have to give you is to improve the sound effects and the 3D models... For the rest the cutscene is strongly related to the theme and the story is very fun and interesting, Great job
Such a great submission!! The best parts were the camera angles. The car follow sequence was really cool and it made me feel like I was playing. Sounds were totally fine too.
Dick Storm obviously took it to the next level.
As for the only downside, I'm kinda torn on this: on one hand I do like cinematics that have a 2D-3D mix, and on the other, maybe the lighting and the environment in general (the outside, not the inside), could've been improved a bit, but I do understand 3 days is a really short period of time.
Overall, loved it. The action more than covered up for the potential downside I mentioned above :))
Did I mention I looved kkuba's animation??
Another beautiful story about our beloved hero, Dick Storm! As always, you managed to strike a great balance between humor and tension, combined with the frenetic action of the scene. I’d say you have excellent potential for creating engaging stories, and that really shows in your cutscenes.
I found the way everything is presented simply amazing, from the immersive introduction (the first-person angle really makes us feel like we’re inside the scene) to the escape through the forest. Choosing to place the camera inside the vehicle was a great decision, as it fully captured the emotion of the chase—something that would likely have been lost with a more external angle.
The sound effects were very well used and are undoubtedly a strong point, contributing a lot to feeling even more connected to everything that’s happening to the character.
The only suggestion I have is regarding the text while the protagonist is inside the house, as I noticed that some of it ends up overlapping Dick’s animations. I wouldn’t say this interferes with the scene, but it could feel more dynamic if the text were placed elsewhere and followed a clearer visual hierarchy of text -> image. In this case, placing the speech bubbles next to Dick would naturally make it more intuitive to guide the viewer’s eyes from the text to the character. It may seem like a small detail at first glance, but it would certainly help make everything flow more smoothly (though to be clear, it’s already great as it is).
I would easily watch many more seconds of this scene if there were any, because I really enjoyed what you presented here. Keep up the great work, and best of luck in the jam!
Very enjoyable watch, would be a great intro to a new Dick Storm adventure! The realistic environment + 2d hand drawn sprite artstyle is striking as always. Everything looks great; monster design is neat and Mr. Storm's run animation was fun. The music is awesome and the sfx are well-done. The candle scene with the camera cuts and different wind sounds worked really well. The screenshake and overall earthquake effect when he is first in the house I also thought was very well-done.
Dialogue was a good read and the text message style presentation of it is immersive and unobtrusive. A small nitpick for a 3 day jam, but I do think the font could fit the scene's vibe better. I liked the cut to black to end the scene after hitting the tree, but I think the actual moment of the crash could have been a bit more epic. The scene where the monster first spawns is this awesome moment with lots of screen shake, explosion particles, etc and it works really well as a high tension moment. I think the crash scene could benefit from the same treatment. Maybe some particle effects, more sfx, screen flashing white, etc right before the cut to black could help sell the drama more. That being said there are many times throughout the scene where the level of polish and detail stands out for some special moments. The tree particles and rumble when the car speeds off and scrapes the tree line and the part where the monster leaps down from the air and lands with a thud and cloud of particles were a couple stand out examples to me.
Overall, this was a very fun watch and a great way to set the story for a game. It immediately puts you into the action and shows enough of our hero's personality to get you invested in the outcome. The artstyle and sound design is on point. We need a Dick Storm 2 hour feature film, it would win a Grammy. Awesome entry, and keep up the great work!!
Oh man! I read your comment, and making the car crash more visceral is a great idea! The ending actually went through 3 different versions, and I was pretty happy with how it ended up... until now :)
The monster design... we discussed a couple of different ones and ended up with the one, where you don't need to animate legs :)
One last thing- I was about to write that Grammy is a music, not movie award, but actually got a better idea! If I ever get to making a full sized Dick Storm project (which is bouncing around my head for some time), I'll definitely commission an artist to write an original song for it :D
If you make that complete Dick Storm project, I'll be the first to buy it! Big fan of the Storm cinematic universe. And maybe not a Grammy then, but an EGOT, Mr. Storm is a true Renaissance Man after all.
Absolute Cinema!!!
Thanks!
great work! the candle effect+ sfx is so good. it fits perfectly the theme. one tiny little thing is: it would more convincing while saying there's no clock while hoding a cellphone. maybe sth like "before shadow of the cross touch the tomb" then "it's cloudy today so no shadow"? anyway it does not matter at all. overall a great work!
I absolutely love your idea with the dialogue change!
Thanks for watching!
best one of the whole jam right here! you did amazing man! 15-20 hours well spent!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
This is cinema. Give me the full movie.
If I got more time, I'd definitely love to make a full-sized game with Dick Storm as a protagonist!
That was a really good cutscene. The music was good, especially during the chase part!
Thanks for watching!
Texting while driving? Bad. Texting while driving while escaping from a demon? Epic. But please, please don't try it at home kids. It's only for professional procrastinating demon hunters named Dick Storm.
Not much to critique. Another great installment in the Dick Storm series.
I should have added a warning about texting and driving- I'm very much against :) The animation file played, after Dick is caught texting is literally called DS-drive-text-shame :D
Glad you liked it!
Dick put the phone away as soon as his colleague called him out and pretended he hadn't been, so I think it does send the message that it's bad idea in a humorous way.
It was funny. The placement of the bushes was a little odd, and the dialogue boxes could get some improvement.
Yeah, the dialogue boxes are mid at best.
As for the bushes- they were literally the last thing I added. Before I just had this big empty space between the tree lines. I figured I'd either move the trees closer, or add some other stuff, and ended up with the bushes.
Thanks for watching!
Another great entry I enjoyed! I love your humorous ways of presenting things. The cutscene fits the theme very well, as it is literally 5 seconds too late. Hope Mr. Storm is already and able to fight that nasty thing in the woods...
I like the idea of attaching light to check for real-time stuff. Nice catch on that! The overall art style is very good, I just love how you combine the 2D with the 3D stuff. Only thing I kinda don't like is the way you present the dialogues. Bit of polish regarding text style and colors of the "bubbles" would enhance the overall feeling I guess.
The pacing is great and on point and works very well with the music and SFX. Very good entry, my favorite so far!
Thanks! I'll be honest here- I do real time verification with lights, because I don't know how to do camera stuff without messing up the cameras in the timeline :)
As for the bubbles- you are completely right. Generally UI in my games is a bit "meh", so I guess that's gonna be my next area of improvement!
Thanks for watching!
wow that was really cool
but now I'm hungry
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
