Proof of Real-Time Rendering
There's a runtime stat in the upper right corner. You can click it to make it disappear and reappear (also useful for people who don't want to see it). Alternatively, pressing your R key restarts each scene.

This was a really enjoyable watch, great entry! I really liked how you handled the theme. Many entries I've seen explicitly say/show "5 seconds too late" in the scene which I find a bit immersion-breaking, but I really liked the subtle twist with the wizard NPC popping out just a few seconds too late. It was a cool choice to have the audience (but not the wizard) be aware of the hero's fate. There are some great sfx like the player jump at beginning, wizard pulling out sword, slime emerging. But there are also a few places where I wish sfx had been added like player footsteps (in house, on grass) and maybe some kind of button mashing sfx for when Dude chooses to play Car Stealer 5 instead of adventure. The visuals do a solid job of conveying the story but don't stand out as particularly interesting or stylish; I think there is room for improvement there. The story itself was funny and I enjoyed how there were 3 distinct characters with different motivations and personalities, not an easy thing for a 3 day jam. Fun watch, keep up the good work!!

The story is genuinely fun and engaging haha, I loved the ending where we find out who was actually late in the situation. I’d say you did a great job with those few seconds of screen time, as it manages to explain everything in a quick and intuitive way.

I noticed you used some external art assets, but even so, you chose styles that are very close to each other and don’t break the overall harmony, which was really well done.

Even though it’s possible to tell who’s speaking in the dialogue, it could be interesting to give the characters’ names a highlight color instead of just white, as that would make it easier to identify who is saying what before even reading the name.

Regarding the scene where the giant slime appears, it would be great to add a parallax effect in the background, with some clouds slowly moving. This would add a lot of life to the scene and make it feel more visually rich.

Overall, I’d say it was a great scene that really fit the theme well. Congratulations, and good luck in the jam!

The ending made me laugh, it was really beautiful... I would just lower the sound a little but otherwise it's very nice

cool story! it's clear what is going on here. also good work on music and sfx control. music seems restarted at scene transition but it's totally fine.  a lovely cutscene!

So that's why you don't go adventuring alone... Learned a lot from this PSA

Developer

You can go alone, but you'll need a sword -- which you should bring yourself, in case the wizard doesn't show up in time :)

I really enjoyed this cutscene, especially the reference to Zelda. Excellent work!
At the beginning, I had a bit of trouble following the conversation, but it was still manageable. You could consider changing the colors of the speech bubbles depending on which character is speaking. Toward the end, however, it becomes clear anyway.

Cinematography:
Although there are no perspective changes, the charm of this sequence lies in the fact that it feels like a genuine gameplay moment and takes place entirely within the game world. In that sense, this feels like a conscious and well-considered decision.

Visuals:
Simple and retro in style, though some elements appear to be assets, as they don’t always feel fully cohesive. Nevertheless, everything remains clearly readable and understandable.

Audio:
The music loop fit well, but it was a bit short. Otherwise, it felt appropriate and consistent.

Storytelling / Theme:
As mentioned at the beginning, I really like the story, especially because of the Zelda meme reference. The theme is clearly addressed, even if it may not be five seconds in the literal sense.

A cute sequence with a great idea and charming retro graphics—I really enjoyed it!

This is cool. I like the splunking.

If you could, please check out my entry too!

I  would love to see an RPG, where you have a PSAs from adventuring bureau every once in a while :D

First of all- I loved the atmosphere! The graphics, music and the story (as well as the framing device of this being a public message) worked well together.

Use of the there was fun and lighthearted- I appreciated that!

Nice entry! I really liked how you used the theme in a kind of funny way eventually. Not the hero itself being too late, but the 'helping' wizard. Nice! The overall art style is nice, although it would be even better if pixel sizes are always the same. Try also using a color palette to not overload the screen. For me the text sometimes was a bit blurry (?) but this is just  a minor. The music fits very well, but a bit more in depth would increase the overall atmosphere. You sticked to the time limit and proof of real time rendering using the runtime works well.

Good entry overall!

Thanks. Most of the assets are creative commons and unfortunately from multiple sources, hence why they are not all the same size. The only things I made myself are the sofa and TV, since I was not finding any that fit the scene. (And the rug is technically a purple rectangle with effects added.) Maybe I'll try tweaking the assets after the jam. In regards to the text, how big is your screen? I did not notice blurring, but I have a moderate sized laptop vs. a large screened PC.

No worries at all! When searching for assets you might restrict search for specific pixel sizes. There are assets for 16px, 32px 64px and so on. This usually helps already :)

I got a 27'' monitor.

Thanks. Mine's 15''. I'll have to look and see if I notice any blurring, though maybe it shows most on larger screens. Thank you for letting me know.

Great storytelling overall. Although, the way that slime ate the hero was terrifying to see, perfectly capturing that 5 seconds too late theme. Well done with this cinematic.
