Ranked from 34 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

Which theme(s) did your game incorporate, and how?
OATHBOUND seamlessly integrates two distinct jam themes:

PIGS: The entire game is set in the Pig Kingdom. Players embark on a quest to defeat the King Pig by navigating through pig-infested puzzle rooms. A mysterious Golden Knight mentor guides them on their journey.

EVERYTHING HAS A COST: Knight cannot naturally wield swords. Instead, he must collect blades from the environment. Each pig defeated consumes one sword permanently. Player must carefully manage this limited resource, as running out of swords means certain failure. Strategic planning is crucial: player must decide which pigs to fight, which to avoid, and when to use their precious swords.

Did you use any pre-made assets? If so, what were they and where were they from?
All visual assets (character sprites, UI elements, tiles,
animations, and logo) were created by me using Affinity
Designer/Canva.

MUSIC: Background music loop sourced from ZapSplat

Affinity and Godot love! Amazingly well polished, the puzzles were nice and simple but clever, I didn't realise I could walk on the lock tiles for a bit, but I figured it out.   I would like more of this with harder puzzles please and thanks!

Hey man, appreciate your kind words :), every game has its own pros and cons, but I think if we’ve already executed and shipped a game for a jam, that itself is a win. And your game was such a nice experience – a bit intense, but it really nailed those vampire vibes. I’m more of an artist than a coder so I take a bit more time to code, but you’re a great coder :),.

I wanted to add something. I have been playing your games multiple times now or rather my 5 year old. He thinks this is super fun and is able to solve it completely by himself. If you plan updates or expand on that idea you already have a big fan, I want you to know that. We'll eagerly awaiting a new release. (and by now it would be nice to skip the tutorial levels :D)

Developer

Hey, thanks a bunch! My main goal is to create games that are easy for everyone to pick up. So, when your  son finished my game, it made my day! Also, yes, of course, Oathbound will have a post-jam update. It might take a few weeks, but I’m planning to expand the levels and add a tutorial skip button, as you mentioned. I haven’t started the post-jam content yet, but I’ll definitely keep you in the loop. Also, please mention your son to get him excited for more Oathbound! :D And hey, could you ask him what he thinks about the Golden Knight? Will he love to play as him, or maybe even play alongside him on the same board?

This was such a joy to play! The visuals are so cute! I was stuck on one of the first levels for a while but after that they were pretty easy! Great job!

This game is so good! I’d totally play a lot more of it if you keep improving it later.

Before knowing I could walk on top of the lock block 🔒 without the key I was stuck in one of the first levels, but after figuring it out, all the other levels were quite easy (I know developing levels for this kind of game is very hard), but still very fun!

One of the most complete games of this jam, congrats 😁.

Hey man, thanks a bunch for playing Oathbound and for the kind words! Yeah, there’s definitely a post-jam update coming, and I’ve got some cool ideas to add more levels by making the grid bigger. I’ll definitely keep you in the loop!

Super cute game! The characters and tasks made it really enjoyable. Congratulations on the release! If you have time, feel free to try my game too! 😊

Hey, thanks a bunch for playing Oathbound! I hope you had a blast. Anyway, I’m heading over to your game now. It took me a bit because I’m a Mac user, but I installed Wine, so I can finally play your game too! :)

This game is really good! I think the puzzles are really fun and are not too difficult or too easy. The sprites and animations are really nice and polished. (I found a single air square that I could walk on in level 13 I think it was the the one in column 3 row 2 If you want to fix it post-jam if it's a bug.)

Animations were really polished and nice, and each level was fun to play through without being overly challenged. Very cute!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing oathbound,, yeah level creation was a heck of a task to me,, bcz i wanted to create puzzles that feels good but at the same time with a fair difficulity, thats why i end up with a 4 by 4 grid to keep thing minimum for the jam period,, i will add more levels in post jam update ,,feel free to check oathbound when it release ,,:)

I lovee this art style! It's so clean and professional! Additional to the gameplay - chefs kiss!

The art is great and its the perfect size for a jam submission. I thought level 6 was the hardest for me, but maybe that's because it's the first non-tutorial level and my brain needed to put it all together. Really well polished. You should be proud!

Developer

Hey Oathbound friend, thanks for playing! I totally get what you felt in level 6—I had the same vibe while I was testing. It was just when the side character disappeared after five levels that it felt a bit empty and lonely. I felt that too even while we were developing. I thought about adding a mechanic where you could call the Golden Knight to clear some areas for help mid-levels, but I had to scrap it because of time constraints. But maybe I’ll include that in the post-jam update—it would be an interesting addition and a real relief if a level is too hard or confusing!

Very clean game art-wise and just vibe-wise, I enjoyed some of the puzzles, and the end cutscene was very cool, creating a very smooth experience! Great work!

Developer

Hey, thanks a bunch for playing Oathbound! I totally followed a vector, line-less art style for it. I’m really hoping to keep using this style for my future games. And it’s awesome that you had a great time in the cutscene! Oh, and don’t forget to check out my itch.io profile pictures—I made them based on the characters in the game.

This is a really impressive game! The art style is so unique and the game feels super smooth. Particle effects were awesome on the pig slaughtering and end cutscene! Level design is challenging and well thought out.

My only feedback is that it wasn’t super clear that you’re able to walk on top of the lock tile which made level 6 difficult to beat, and I think in level 9 I was able to pass through one of the background tiles. I also think there could have been different background tracks based on if you’re in the tutorial, levels, and end scene.

Stellar job!! :)

Host

also these profile pictures are AMAZING

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey, thanks a bunch! :) Wow, it’s so great that you like the pig defeat particles. Actually, at first, I was trying to create this exploding animation for pigs, but I ended up making them yeet to the background instead. Also, the purple explosion was added way back after particles were implemented, just to add more to it. And thanks for liking the cutscene—it means a lot! I tried to replicate that anime slash kind of thing :). And you’re right, I should have changed the scenario/music based on the tutorial >> levels >> final. I’ll release a post-jam update shortly after the jam so I can fix them :). Also, about the collision bug, I accidentally deleted some collision tiles when I was trimming the levels, :0. Again, thanks a bunch for playing Oathbound! Also thanks a lot for downloading and using oathbound profile pics ,,,,yay ")
