What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Everything else was created by me apart from the music and font from the Brackey's Platformer Bundle which I altered to fit my game better.

I liked the pizza animation.

It was short, but enjoyable!

However, I was a bit frustrated that enemies appeared suddenly and caused damage. I think it would be better if the enemy spawn points were fixed and objects were placed there to reduce the sense of unfairness.

(Although maybe that’s intentional!)

Amazing first game! Overall, an enjoyable experience, I had fun playing through it, and thought the art style was very charming. My only gripe is that there is no cooldown between shot's so the meta revolves around how fast you can click

I like the art, animation, simple mechanics and sound effects.

I found that if you stay in a corner or near one and just shoot, it's easier to not lose health. The enemies seem to spawn from multiple directions at random, it's actually easier to get hit when moving around. Maybe you could add a mechanic or rule to keep the player moving. (Just a suggestion)

Overall, a fun game and a cool idea. Congratulations on making your first game!

good job for your first game !

I had fun for such a short game! I wish it was longer. Word of advice: Once you finish the base systems in your games, you can then expand on them by adding more content! This is going to benefit you greatly during game jams. You will be able to add more content!

Very cool game for your first game :) Reminded me of binding of isaac :D

I love that you made the art yourself, it gives the game a really unique retro vibe :)

A few things I would recommend:

  • The enemies are sometimes spawn inside the player, one solution could be to define multiple spawn areas and only spawn in areas where the player is not.
  • The different rooms could have different mechanics, like traps you have to dough
  • hold the button to shoot balls
  • The  end could have a big enemy as a boss, this would round up the experience

Overall great game ! keep up the good work :)

Thank you for the feedback! :)

Great game! Short but sweet! I really liked the vibes of the dungeon (very old-school zelda vibes) and the shooting felt good. Honestly my only real issue is that sometimes the enemies will spawn directly on the player so there's no way to even avoid them. Besides that small complaint though this is a really fun game! Amazing job!

Very nice first game, well done!

Basically a lot of similar stuff the others said:

  • Give hint/telegraph to where enemies will spawn
  • Add push back of enemies or invincibility frames after being hit to give grace period

Also:

  • Add effects to game, camera shake when hit, flash characters red to indicate hurt
  • Add more difficulty (do with addition of previous stuff as balancing it), lower player health
  • Add more areas to explore, perhaps more where escape is so have to find

Thank you for the feedback, they’re good points to add into the game :)

I really liked it, but in my opinion ability to shoot as fast as you can click makes the game a little to easy. Still great job!

There are a few details that could help with the gameplay:

 - Invincibility window - after taking a hit, the player would not take damage for a bit - avoids those instakill sequences.

 - Enemy spawn telegraph or safe zone - feels unfair when the enemy appears on top of the player.

Other than that, good work! Nice art and good scope management!

Thank you for the feedback! I completely agree with you with the safe zone and invincibly is a great idea!

The game is fun, I died to the pizza slices more than I would like to admit lol.

Simple, but fun! I liked it, it has a touch that makes it special, although a bit short

The game is pretty simple but very solid.

I would add some indicators when enemies spawn so you know where to move so they do not spawn on you. Also add some vfx when hitting enemies to give some visual feedback, maybe a small camera shake when they hit you.

The game is so so good, just needs some polishing. Keep up the good work!

Well done! The game is well made, and the game feels good to play, the only issue I had was when enemies spawned on top of me, that was kinda annoying but overall, for being your first game, it's pretty good.

Congrats on completing your first game! It was fun and felt polish so great job!

Submitted(+1)

that is very brave having your first game as also your first one week game jam, it's also actually quite fun

That pizza stood no chance against me, looked too delicious not to destroy haha. Great first game, keep making them!

this was fun! shooting pizza i usually against my code of ethics, but i'll make an exception. jerry was also very cute, and the movement and shooting felt pretty clean!

one recommendation would be to put  a safe zone around the player where enemies don't spawn, a couple of times on appeared just right behind me.

still an awesome start to the gamedev journey!

I saw this was your first game, and I think you did an amazing job!  You managed your scope really well, it's visually good to look at, it's straightforward (as in, I didn't have to exit out of the game to look at the controls again, which is a really good thing), it's polished, it feels good to play and I had a lot of fun playing it. Like someone else said, it's got charm. Way to go!

Thanks!
