I really vibed with this game! it brought up my nostalgia for old windows XP, the skills and enemy design is very nicely made, audio is good, the progression path was very cool… it was clever to use OS terminal commands for skill names. very well made game, one of my favorites! 10/10
The desktop intro was really cool and the old-school window chrome and UI theme are super well done. The Unix shell command angle is such a clever implementation for a deckbuilder. Seeing cards like fork, kill, and grep work mechanically is just fun. The instant preview feedback on what a card will do is a huge plus too.
The old OS references are great, especially if you're into that era. It feels like a love letter to 90s computing. And the music absolutely fits, big late-80s/early-90s cyber vibes. Combat-wise it's solid and deep. A lot of content here for a jam entry. This is super polished and really stands out.
This game was so fun to play! The gameplay, visuals and audio, everything fitted together so well. Loved it!
Those OSes weren't strange places to me. Liked the factoids. Enjoyed playing!
I am honestly amazed at the amount of content you managed to put into this in a week, and how it's all so coherent and themed. There are so many smart little things, even the upgrades are super flavorful, adding parameters to the commands to specialize them... Omg this is genius. You can feel the passion.
Regarding things to improve, an explanation of the terminology available somewhere would be nice, like I guessed what Exhaust or Throttled did but it took me a couple battles. As a game, it feels very complete, but I think it could've leaned more into the strange places theme. Old computers is a pretty unique take but I think there is untapped potential with the whole "content of a computer merges with another one" thing. And also building up on the old web aesthetic if you want to expand on it I think something similar to hypnospace outlaw is super cool
There is also a bug where some of the card UI elements do not propagate the mouse input, the separator and the indicator in the top right. So it kind of blinks back and forth. Nothing major and easily fixable I assume.
So yeah, incredible submission, even with a single world it would be a 5/5 gameplay-wise but you went ahead and made 3. Wow. I'm probably going to come back and properly play once I've rated enough games.
The theming on this game is very well done. The visuals are fun, although it would have been nice to have a bit more animations and juice. The sounds are very on-theme as well, but I find it a bit tiring since you didn't apply any pitch shifting to them.
On the gameplay side, I would have to say it's a bit too tried-and-true. On in other words, I thought the cards themselves are too alike in games like Slay The Spire and doesn't offer much in terms of originality that differentiate your game from other deckbuilders, except for the theming. Although I understand that it is a game jam, and not always possible to come up with unique mechanics (or implement them in time), but I would be interested to see if you can apply some unique spin to the genre from your chosen settings.
I can't believe how deep you went into the theme!
it is so niche, very nice
The boss did me in! It was fun. My only critique would be the sound it was really loud in some areas and I wasn't able to find the in game sound control.
Awesome work getting all these systems working in a week! I really appreciate the variety of upgrades and you really nailed a cohesive theme!
As someone with like 500 hours on Slay the Spire, that was a really fun experience. I really like all the processes and card's names, really creative! I also really liked the fact there were multiple upgrades possible for cards.
I encountered a bug I think that would show my hand as being unplayable if I had no energy, even if I could still play 0-cost cards, but that was just visual. Another time I couldn't because of a time-eater effect on the boss, and I did not notice it until too late, so I'd say some stuff could be a little clearer, but damn that's a very impressive game for just one person in a week!
Thanks for your submission and good luck with the jam!
Had a lot of fun playing this one! I enjoyed hearing the sounds from the operating systems
I love this game, very clean design, my mind went towards the same thoughts as yours for this jam.
This was EXTREMELY Fun. How is this only rated by 4 people before me? 9.5/10. The sounds could maybe vary a bit more, but thats all! im addicted
