This played like a mix of certain sections of Gorf, and also Space Invaders. And yet was also it's own thing entirely. The descending enemies do add to the challenge with the top enemy also being hidden behind a wall which needs to be broken through. The combination of what could be seen to be simplistic elements in isolation actually work quite well together to comprise a compelling core gameplay loop.
Had fun with this, some nice ideas to twist up classic space invaders. Look forward to seeing how it evolves. Maybe more shots, and less "there was no way I could have avoided that!" moments :)
Cool game. The sound effects were very punchy and arcade like and the graphics belong in the 80s. Many times I wished my player sprite could move a little faster or wasn't so wide as I found it near impossible to move out of the way of the enemy bullets. I got to level 5 which probably isn't that great. The game has a creepy atmosphere which I love!
Thank you so much for playing our game PixelPlop🤗 🙏 So happy you liked it! That was exactly the vibe we were hoping you get. We can take a look at the speed of the player sprite and maybe tweek it in a upcoming version after the Jam😊 Level 5 is not that bad. A little bit more practice and you will beat it💪
What I always respect about game jams entries is the incredible work done by these artists in such a short time period allotted. Are they always perfect? no, of course not, impossible to do in mere weeks. But what we get is a raw beta of something to come. In most cases we get the clean, working final versions after the jam ends. looking forward to the completed version. Loved this entry, loved the graphics and game play.. Good luck in your entry.
Thank you so much for following us and for the donation. I know your work! Your name is Paul Golian, right? I have seen the Geo’s Quest games on YouTube. I think I will have to buy a copy of your game at Alinea shop and try it out myself. I love adventure games! You made those adventure games on real Amiga with AMOS? Just like we made our game with Blitz Basic. Amazing! 🤗
Yes, I started with Edmund Clays GRAC2 but it was too limited so I developed a few more procedures and revised his source code & added more buffer space with AMOS Pro so I was able to do what I wanted. Now I'm trying RedPill for an AGA platformer , but there just isn't enough documentation to help me along (I'm an old fart lol) , so I'm learning Amiblitz (slowly.) there is familiarity having worked in AMOS so I'm slowly getting the hang of it and building it from the ground up.
I guess you understood the theme of this edition of AmiGameJam literally and the game fits in perfectly. However not everyone understands it the same way what can be observed by other contestants. The game has its unique loveable features (for those who remember the 80s) but also is not free of some bugs and some inconvenient ways of gameplay. Objects are too big or too close to the player what artificially makes the game harder. I'd prefer to have more levels but with more convenient gameplay. Anyway, good attempt with room for improvement.
