It was really fun to play! There is a nice variety of chips and characters. The rules are easy to understand. It feels really polished for a jam game.
Great submission, good job!
Cool take on the Black Jack gameloop ! Very charming art and animations too ! I skipped the tutorial by accident at first, don't know how though 😅 but then I restarted the game and it was back. Anyway the idea is very clever I think it even leaves room for future improvements (roguelike-ish, iterative gameplay maybe ? haha) . Congrats on your entry guys !
Art style has good. Game was cool and fun.
Am I missing something? I couldn't really figure out if there was any strategy aside from hitting deal until I won or lost.
Nice UX though. It's very clean
When you buy a chip from the shop - which you can hover over to see what they do - you can drag them from your bar onto the cards you're about to deal to change the value of them, and build up a strategy to always win the games. In hindsight we weren't quite clear enough about it (even though it's the main mechanic) - if I could go back in time the tutorial would be redo-able and there would be little animations showing you how to do it.
ahh! Ok yeah I kept buying the chips but didn’t know why. I’ll play it again
I love this take on blackjack! The art is super charming and i was excited to find out what all of the chips would do. Some of them feel a bit redundant, like the one that changes odds into a random odd feels functionally the same as just randomizing it otherwise.
I think it may have been more interesting to play as the blackjack player instead of the dealer so we could decide if we wanted to hit or stand and play blackjack with the addition of the cheating chips, but that may have not been achievable in the time span. Just felt like I had a bit less autonomy because you just have to wait for the other person to stop.
Overall I had a lot of fun and now I want a full fleshed out Blackjack Balatro game. Well done!
We considered this, but decided on playing as the dealer because we were trying to stick to a rule - "Your opponent can't know you're cheating."
If you were the player, since the dealer always sees your cards before you do, we wouldn't have been able to do this mechanic unless you were changing the card before the dealer even drew it - and that just seemed less clean.
Without that rule and any time constraints this would have either become something like that, or a multiplayer game where everyone is cheating is ridiculous ways.
Oh, and the reason we were conforming to this rule is because otherwise it wouldn't really be theft.
Amazing presentation! Chip effects made the game really interesting. Great work!!
the art style is really cool, i really love how the devil is stylized especially, and you used the third wild card so well.
Nice take on Blackjack! I loved the art, and the gameplay was incredibly smooth. My only issue was not knowing how to use the chips / where to drag them initially. I am starting to think that this is how blackjack really is in real life, it would explain why I always lose...
Great game!
This one was awesome! Great work on the graphics, I love the style. Really immersive and clever twist on blackjack. I had a great time playing it :)
Great work on the art, the UI/UX, and I love the idea. I was able to win most of the time by just playing the cards I was dealt and not doing anything, so I think the chip mechanics should include increasing bet size or something to make it riskier and more rewarding to use them.
I had a huge amount of fun playing this game! But one thing I found made the experience slow down a bit after playing it for a bit is that (as far as I understand) there's no difficulty curve. It never really gets harder, I can spam the play button without using any of the special chips and go on forever. Besides that though it was a great experience, loved it!
Love some blackjack. The artstyle is also really pretty! Really fun changing the cards to my liking hehe
Great work!
I KNEW IT! So that's what my dealer was doing all this time when I put all the family land up for a bet, haha.
The art is insane! I love how it fits with the wild card without losing the theme of the game.
I would play more if it were incremental, with the bets increasing every time you play.
I really love it! Congrats on the entry!
Wow! This game is really amazing! I originally thought of doing something like this, but I don't have the artistic talent or the skill with code. The gameplay was really fun and I'm a bit addicted to blackjack now. Just one question: is there a way to win or does it go on infinitely?
Glad you enjoyed it!
The idea was that the game is almost like an arcade game - you try to stay out of bankruptcy as long as possible, and get a list of stats to see how well you did at the end. It might not be quite hard enough for that, though.
I had a lot of fun playing it I may or may not be addicted to gambling now, but great game like the art and having those chips
a really funny game idea :)
really good art!
What a unique twist on blackjack! The gameplay was very fun, and I loved the art style.
Great work!
Really good job!
I've never played blackjack, or any casino game for that matter, but I was still able to get the gist! Even managed to win a few rounds too.
Very polished! I especially like the art! Very well made. Reminds me vaguely of Slay the Spire (mostly because of being able to see the opponents intention), but I've also been playing it a lot recently haha.
Could really turn into a full game! Good job!
Thanks! There were a lot of precautions taken to try and make it as easy to pick up.
We definitely took inspiration from Slay the Spire for the design - I was even thinking about adding some equivalent to powers, but decided to focus on polishing it up and didn't have the time - pretty proud of how it turned out regardless.
You should be! Great job!
fun! great art
