Evidence shows that I am apparently the middest bestie in existence. Nevertheless I really love this game there is so much attention to detail and polish in every aspect of the game. I can not even imagine to implement all the movement and effects of all the components. The overall visual style is also sooo good and the dialogue is very funny. The ability to play version one inside the new version is really nice as well.
This game is easily at least top three for me.
The evidence CAN be damning but it's important to consider why we'd want or pursue particular besties in the first place:) I truly appreciate you taking the time to play and also to leave a comment. I would say that it is an absolute miracle that most of the movement and effects work without everything completely falling apart or imploding.
Thanks again for the kind words and feedback!
this is such a cool game!! I love that I can see what bars my choices affect (the little ui shaking!). Amazing writing too, I was like "damn" when the "do not trust HR" or "wage theft" comments came up. A really nice touch. As someone stuck in corporate. I too cannot balance mental health, money, and friendships, except I don't get a score for it lol
Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, as someone who has both worked in retail and in the bland lifeless office setting, I know all too well that balancing those things is impossible. Some might say it's designed that way:) Oh and thank you for all the feedback as well, I truly appreciate it.
This game feels like the videogame version of one of those 2k personality test on girls magazine, and I'm not complaining one bit. The sass! XD Love the vibes. And I absolutely adore all the little visual effects of all the elements on the screen, they're amazing to look at. And 7 endings?? Wow. A very good job!
as someone who might have been around when everyone was using LiveJournal and Xanga I'm very familiar with those kinds of 2k personality tests online as well:) Thanks for playing and for appreciating all the little elements I tried to throw in!
love all the visual improvements!! also wow a secret mode to try the old version lol, also like how you added more endings :O i keep going broke but that's a skill issue on me haha good job!! ^^
Easily going broke felt canonically accurate to the current timeline we all exist in:) Thanks for playing and for appreciating all the work I put into everything! Glad you liked it!
Zamn the amount of polish that I feel is insane, they are just small little things like the ending “calculation” screen, or the addition of that indicator for which bars change, or being able to click literally everything. It all just comes together to make this feel MORE than just a finished product, its a work of art :p also really making me try to get all these different endings lol my first one turns out I’m just a mid tier bestie wage slave so i guess i need to lock in hahaha straight up fantastic game :)
Cramming everything I could into a few days of "polish" while hoping it wouldn't all fall apart did introduce a fair number of headaches:) I took everyone's feedback seriously but tried to hold myself back from overstepping where I felt I might be creating more problems than solutions! Thanks for all the kind comments and I hope you were able to excel beyond a mier mid tier bestie wage slave!!!
Wow, this bestie is very hard to please!!
I like all the little details that you added, as clicking react almost on everything, makes the game more… “gamish”, haha.
And the fact that you can play the previous version is just mindblowing!
Where I can find the very much secret leaderboard?
Congratulations!
Haha, your comment and others on the first part of the jam really challenged me to figure out what I could reasonably add within the timeframe without veering too far from the original idea or over scoping. Sooooo I decided to triple down on the FEEL of clicking and adding more writing/context to vary things up:) Thanks for coming back to play again and also for leaving a comment!
(Shhhhhh...The super SECRET totally necessary leaderboard appears when you click the Bestie during the BESTIE REVIEW)
The writing on this game is the best! very smart and funny. I really liked it, great job!
Aw, thanks for saying that! I'm glad you enjoyed i! And fyi, the art from the game you all made is absolutely adorable!
thanks a lot!!! really appreciate it. Let's keep going :3
Such a cool twist on a simple format! The dialogue was funsies and the UI was cute and effective! Awesome job <3
Doing my best to work within my limits and scope appropriately:) Thanks for playing and I hope you know I am currently "climbing the corporate ladder" in your other wonderful game. All your art is SO. GOOD.
:O thanks so much!!
I am generally not a big fan of text adventure sort of games. But this one! I love it! I was plugged in and played until I became the "best bestie" :P
Great work! <3
Haha, glad it was able to entertain you enough for a few plays! I tried my best to keep the sentences short and punchy enough to not drag things down:) Thanks for all the kind words.
I found the writing for this one hilarious, easily one my favourite entries for the jam. Extremely polished as well, good work.
I'm glad me tossing everything together and praying it didn't fall apart came off as extremely polished:) Thanks for the kind words about the writing, I tried my best to keep the sentences short to match the pace of the game!
I really liked the multiple ending! it really adds depth to the game :)
Feedback:
it was sometimes difficult to understand why an action changed a specific meter/bar, some of the questions were double negatives which made me re-read a few of them.
Glad you appreciated the endings! I was actually stumped for a while on how to present them or encourage people to replay at least once or twice.
Ah, yes! Good feedback! The double negatives were intentional because it became to easy when the scenarios were written too straight forward . And in terms of WHY an action changed a specific bar being vague, that was ALSO a bit teasing/trolling I wanted the player to feel with the game AND the overall idea of performing for a bestie. I was betting that the short nature of the game wouldn't discourage them too much annnnd did at least show WHICH bars would be changed....just not whether for better or worse:)
I can't believe I'm a mid bestie TT. Great game, it really makes you interested from the start!
It's okay to be a mid bestie when you're an A+ gamemaker though! Playing your game really made me want to put a little phone in mine too BUT I knew adding it would be too much for what time I had left:( Thanks for playing!
Cool game, great job on writing!
I also enjoyed the tactile design, I found myself clicking all over the place, and it felt good that there was visual and sfx response from everything. It gave this anxious energy to the entire game, which I felt was very appropriate to the writing
I'm glad that tactile feeling made you want to click more! I tried my best to do that with my very limited understanding of game feel without absolutely making the UI or readability a mess:) And yes, adding that bit of anxious energy was definitely part of the intent. I'm also happy that you thought the visual and sfx response was good, but it'd definitely be better if I could hand paint beautiful tiny cats like in your game!
(Oh, and if you like CLICKING there's actually a SECRET LEADERBOARD in the game that if you find it, it'll upload your HIGHEST amount of clicks...for no real reason other than it's another one of "the small things")
Really cool how you were able to take a concept like a text adventure and spice it up to feel like a truly engrossing game! The scenarios were well written and believable plus the multiple ending unlock gave replayability.
Thanks for the kind words about the writing! I struggled to string together semi-coherent scenarios that would be easy to read and still feel somewhat entertaining:) And I'm glad to know that the multiple-endings helped out too! (PS: I love the game you worked on a lot annnnnd I spent so much time on it that its pushed back me being able to play other games today!)
i love how interactive the game is, everything is clickable and pops and reacts, WOW, scratches something in my brain... honestly, don't have anything else to say, it's polished, fun and cool. good job!
I did, in fact, spend way more time then you'd imagine trying to figure out HEY WHEN YOU CLICK SOMETHING WHAT WOULD BE NEAT and then tried to do that in the easiest way possible without breaking the entire thing:) Thank you for the kind words annnnd I'm glad to know it scratched that part of your brain in the right way!
I absolutely suck at this game. Best result I got: "Very Mid Bestie". Well, it's better than the last time. Haha. Pretty cool game, I rellay like all the flashy things you added. I think this is the first game I've played that was made in GDevelop (that I know of). Just a little random fact. 😅
Anyway, cool idea and great execution, I tried a few times and certainly noticed the random situations. Nice. 😌Kudos for a nice job!
Very Mid Bestie is still a borderline success! You're maybe just too well-adjusted to meet the very specific needs of the Truest Bestie. And really, not all of us need to be a Bestie Material:)
Thank you for trying a few times and giving me some feedback, always appreciated. And yeah, GDevelop isn't the best but it's very easy for me now to throw a few things together and it's always so satisfying just to create!
wow you really polished this up. so much juice everywhere, the concept is still the same as part 1 but yeah so much JUICE. awesome game!!
thanks so much! I took a lot of the feedback to heart but kept the core concept intact...because I knew if I strayed to far from that I'd end up with MASSIVE feature creep! You and a few others said they enjoyed the little "no button" interaction in the first jam so I double-triple-quadrupled down on that and followed where that took me. Writing little individual endings and randomizing the dialogue though took a LOT more work than I thought!
This game is awesome such a creative use of the theme! it remined me of the trolley dilemma. I’m not sure what the aesthetic is called, but it feels like a cool 90s retro vibe, and I really loved the gameplay !! <3
Ha, I ALSO am not sure what the aesthetic is called but lets just say I'm VERY limited with my art skills:) Annnnd you could definitely say that having a bestie can sometimes be like a mini-trolley problem every day! Love that you had a good time and thanks for the feedback!
OK so I played it twice, so I did not get all endings in one play so I do not know if I missed something by completing all endings in one play... but I did get them all!! I had 6/7 just could not get the best bestie ending and then in my second try I got it!! It was really fun experience and I loved it!!
Do you mean you unlocked 6/7 of the endings in one play? If so there's DEFINITELY something I missed but I might know what happened. Feel free to write me back here or DM me on discord. Thanks a lot for playing though and I'm glad you had a good enough time to play it multiple times! You definitely seemed to enjoying doing all that clicking:)
Sorry, by play I meant playing the game without refreshing the browser, I got 6/7. Then refreshed and lost all my progress but got the one I missed right away haha
Oooh okay! Yeah, no worries. There isn't anything huge you missed from not unlocking 7/7 all at once except another little thank you note! Thank you so much for taking the time to play through everything though and for putting together this amazing jam.
this was so much fun omg, i got like 5/7 of the endings and i NEED to grind it out to get them all 😭😭😭😭
Haha, glad you had a good time! I added as much as I could so I TRULY appreciate you playing enough to get that many endings! If you'd like to see how much has changed since the first jam, you can still access the old game within the new one! (It's a little hidden but I also explained how on the games page under Updates) Thanks againnnn!
