How does your game fit the theme?
In our game Forgotten Dreams, you'll play as a teddy bear of which is newly owned by a child; however, this child is slowly being consumed by their nightmares. Nightmares that take over the child's conscious, devouring any existing memories of you.

Every night, you'll leave the child's toybox to fend off any nightmares the child is having, meaning you remain in the child's mind for as long as you can fight.

By leaving the toybox to enter the child's dreams, this is how our game reflects this jam's theme.

Beautiful, I absolutely want to see a full version of the game, release it on Steam ^^

But there's an urgent problem that needs fixing... I imagine it doesn't happen to everyone and depends on the screen resolution, but everything except the HUD is too blurry, and this gives me trouble understanding the depth of the levels, and consequently, jumping or hitting enemies at the right time becomes tedious

The game from the screen shots looks beautiful, and even in the tutorial its clear that the aesthetic is really strong, the 2d sprites of the player and enemies are awesome - but i fear the tutorial is a bit of a roadblock, sadly. I gave it about half an hour of trying, initially falling endlessly into the pit until i realised holding shift was crucial on the enemies? that you latch and launch off of.

Then the combat portion of the tutorial with 30+ enemies in a clump felt a bit like a harder version of the Vacuous Rom fight from bloodborne, as the attacks dont have much telegraphing and you don't have a dodge bar the latch, I really tried to jump around with the latch and kill the stragglers to get through this but in the end I really couldn't - which is a shame cause honestly the game looks beautiful, the visuals and the ambience are immersive, the premise is awesome, I really wanted to play more!

I think it could do with some continued work or balancing, which from the comments I can see you are taking on feedback for more development which is awesome! I would definitely check it out again in the future :)

The game looks fantastic, you can see its a beautiful game on the screenshots. However this game is unplayable at the moment. The first jump is already a test of patience, the checkered pattern obfuscates the scene depth even more what is a game that don't let you control the camera + has a 2D character in a 3D world, fog, while having you do platforming.
The second "trial" is a clunky mechanic that doesn't give you a chance to learn, and if a single mistake of any kind is made you start falling for eternity and have to restart the game. The tutorial textbox is hard to read, it takes too long to write itself, translucent background with a white skinny font.
I hope you take this as constructive criticism that you guys need to rethink everything about this game when it comes to player experience. If you wanna do combat and platforming while having a 2D character, you are gonna have to draw more vertical angles of camera view or be creative with sprite layering tricks, or lock the camera in a more isometric perspective. Gameplay is king, but right now you guys are compromising it for art convenience.
In the end I think this game has a lot of potential and I wish you good luck with your project.

ty for the feedback, as you may have seen, we are currently working based on the feedback given, so some issues are already solved or currently being solved, again, thank you for taking your time to try our game, and for the feedback you gave, really appreciate it!! please check our game once updating is allowed <3

The visual direction is great and the idea seems really intriguing, but the balancing might need some work. The first round of enemies seemed impossible to beat, especially as in one attempt I was locked in place by the tutorial text and couldn't move.

This game has a lot of potential though, and I'm happy to see from other comments that you are planning to keep updating!

Developer(+1)

yesyes!! we are currently working based on all the feedback given, so when the voting ends and updating is allowed, please check the game again!! tysm for taking your time to try our game and giving feedback <3

You're welcome, and yes, I'll be sure to check back once the game is updated.

Will you be saving this as a jam version and creating a new game that is updated, or updating this one directly?

The game is seriously beautiful, the art is fantastic and the music is fits the vibe so well! Sadly I suffer from a skill issue apparently. I'm unable to clear the first group of enemies that appear in the tutorial :(

Developer

That's my doing, sorry. I thought it it was fine but people on my team said otherwise. I made it easier but couldn't upload an updated build, sorry sorry! Thank you for playing!!!

The artwork in this is so stellar! Seriously it's beautiful!

Developer(+1)

tysm, we will keep uploading this game with even more and better art!!

This game is VERY cool in every way, it just needs some balancing changes to make it playable!

Developer(+1)

Very much in the works! Thank you for playing!

Extremely cool visual design and an intriguing narrative! For the life of me though I could not make it through the first set of enemies as I would clear a good handful of them but would get mogged like yesterday's lunch. Overall, though really cool despite some balance issues I would love to see a full production!

Developer

LOL, I had no issue beating the tutorial so I thought it'd be fine, but even the other guys on the dev team said it was hard so I guess mistakes were made. Thank you so much for playing!

Cool premise and cool art style.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Very cool art direction, and the music is really immersive. After the second box, I fell and kept falling, then everything turned white ;( I moved forward a bit to try again, but it happened again. Still, it’s really nice and has great potential for further development!

Developer(+3)

we cant updated the game since it's blocked, but the camera moves a little it more freely now so you can see when to jump, thanks for taking your time to try our game and for leaving feedback<333

this seems like a very interesting concept, but i am unable to get very far (mainly due to confusion of combating). the audio and visuals make the setting very mysterious and immersive, though my only complaint about visuals is that the nightmares just disappear when you kill them, which doesnt really fit the game's aesthetic (i would suggest fading or some sort of particle effect). overall, i do see the strong potential!

Developer(+2)

we were working on it, but as sso said in a reply below, the updates were disabled so we were only able to post this early version of the game, tysm for taking your time to play our game and for giving feedback <3

Wow this is really cool. The art choice from the pictures is what drew me in. I really love the whole vibe I guess. lol. The visuals and audio are just really cool.

I am not sure how I like moving forward with that camera angle instead of side to side. It just made it hard to judge distance. I'd move the camera up and angled down a bit. When falling in the pit, you spawn too close to the edge which by running off the cliff after spawning I ended up in an infinite falling loop of spawning over the pit.  And the combat needs work. A bit of invincibility for a second after getting hit with the classic character flashing. Kinda hard to judge if the enemy is in my hit range.

I am impressed with what you were able to get done in a month. I'd keep going with the idea. After all the best compliment I can give is wanting more.

Hi there! thanks for playing our game and for the feedback, will definitely continue it a bit and improve it and again, tysm !!!

YO THIS IS FIRE. i actually had an idea similiar to this but i thought i couldnt pull it off, and you managed to do it!. lots of love man

Developer(+1)

LMAO, thanks man, means a lot from all of us! There was a lot of us so it made it somewhat easier, but like I stated in a previous comment, ran out of time to upload an updated build which added basically the entirety of the games story, but at least we got something out lol. Thank you so much for playing and taking the time to comment!

Submitted(+2)

Congratulations on the game. It's very immersive, beautiful, and deep. I liked it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! We ran out of time to upload an updated build with dialogue, voice acting and whatnot, but at least we got the game out. I'll definitely be improving it, and when the submissions open up the game will be fully playable.
