The end credits have been found to be completely unreachable due to a bug that makes it impossible for you to start the end credits. Instead you just slowly slide forward into the lava. After the judges are done rating the top 100 we will release a patch that nerfs 3-4 to a playable level and makes the end credits reachable. The version that will be in the collection if we get in will likely just be the credits fix unless we are allowed to add in the 3-4 nerf.

How does your game fit the theme?
This game applies to the theme (outside the box) since you play as a box, you jump out of a box (going outside the box) when you take damage, and since the goal is escape a laboratory consisting mostly of cube/box shaped objects and terrain.

im a big fan of puns, so the title got me to play the game instantly. however i wasn't expecting it to be to explorative!! the puzzles, and the mechanics they use, are really clean and polished. they feel super fleshed out and utilised to the max and it's a lot of fun. i finally got an S in 1-1 through 1-3 andi had a disgusting grin on my face the whole time. genuinely a lot of fun. i love the box's little face
I originally saw this game on a discord post, and was looking forward to playing it when the jam was over! It lived up to expectations and I had a blast playing it.
I left off on B2 because I got stuck on the room with the jetpack boxes over spikes with helicopter boxes, because I could not figure out the room after 10 minutes of attempts.
Overall though really fun game. In my top 3 favorite games of the jam.
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! 2-2 is a very hard level compared ref to the last just because of the exact spot you got stuck at. I am one of two level designers for the game, I made zones 1&3 while Dr. Cosmos (the other designer) made zone 2 and some QoL improvements to other zones. I might try making a walkthrough of the full game or just the hardest levels for people that need help.
Honestly one of the most polished games I’ve played in the jam. The movement feels super smooth and the whole “breaking out of yourself” mechanic is such a cool idea, really fun to play around with
Levels keep things fresh and the overall vibe + dialogue give it a lot of personality
Only thing I noticed was the camera acting weird sometimes, but nothing too serious
Really solid game, I can see this doing really well. If you get a chance, check out my game too, I’d really appreciate it if you could rate it and leave some feedback
This has easily been the best game out of the jam for me, spent a long time playing this, i eventually got stuck at the quadruple helicopter/turret bit in 2-3 - but i loved every second of playing this.
The music is awesome didn't get tired of it, the character controls feel super smooth and it was really enjoyable to move around.
The abilities and the fact you can die to leave a box/jump is just really creative - this felt like a really fun old school platformer, the helicopter and rocket upgrades reminded me of ratchet and clank, one of my faves from childhood.
Difficulty curve definitely went up in zone 2 - but also I don't usually play platformers so some of it is definitely a skill issue, which also just goes to show how awesome this game is 'cause it wouldn't usually be my jam but i was hooked!
My only critique i can think of is sometimes i wanted to like look up or i'd have my back against my wall and I couldn't see through myself.
Voice acting was solid, fun writing :D
Really really awesome job!
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! Zone 2 gets a lot harder than zone 1 due to having a different creator which changes the zones difficulty curve and general design philosophy. I made most of zones 1 & 3, while Dr. Cosmos made zone 2 and made a bunch of fixes and overall QoL improvements to the other zones. Zone 3 honestly starts off a tiny bit easier than zone 2 but then picks up the pace again in 3-2 to 3-4, so if you pass 2-3, good luck! The voice acting and writing was mostly done by Suave Lobster and others by Dr. Cosmos (mostly for the youtube short), they did a great job.
The reason for the camera getting annoying when you try to look up is that it gets pushed out of objects to prevent you from seeing through the ground. This often pushes it right back into you, which makes things hard to see unless you already zoomed all the way in.
Thank you for your feedback!
This is honestly one of the most polished entries I’ve played so far. The movement feels great and all the mechanics (especially the whole “breaking out of yourself” idea) are really creative and well executed
I really liked how each level introduces something new, it kept the gameplay fresh the whole time. The dialogue and overall tone also add a lot of personality, which makes it stand out even more
Only small thing I noticed was some camera weirdness at times, but nothing that really took away from the experience
Super solid game overall, I can definitely see this placing high. If you get a chance, check out my game too, I’d love to hear your thoughts
Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed!
The camera issue is a very common issue with most people, it usually fixes itself once you either beat zone 1, level 1-1, or reload a level, but it is pretty random when it fixes itself.
I'll try your entry tomorrow. It wasn't showing up at first but I see it on your profile so I'll play and rank ASAP.
Great job with this one!
The most satifying animation is when you emergency c-section yourself on a spike and vertically expell a smaller version of yourself to carry on your legacy.
The polish is Insane, just noticed that you can for example set the Camera distance. ALl those things add up to be a really nice Game. An d I love Game with Physics and you have Rigisdbodys so yeah good job
So far, I have only played and completed 1-1 to 1-3 but this game is so well polished and complete I am in love with it! It really emulates those classic N64 era platformers in all the best ways. I can't wait to try the rest of the levels this game is CRAZY GOOD!
I have discovered that 3-4 is actually insanely precise due to a last minute change I made not expecting it to make things much harder (the lava start position was moved up 2 blocks). You have to play basically perfectly to beat 3-4, which is a good thing and a bad thing (there's no rankings for 3-4 and also it's supposed to be a difficult final level but it also is annoyingly difficult).
Warning to anyone who makes it to zone 3!
I usually forget to watch the video pitch beforehand so when i got to the switch where i was required to die on purpose to progress, I got stuck for an embarrassingly long time until I chose to watch the short lol, my b
The dialogue here is hilarious, the character is really fun to control, and all the upgrades are really tightly designed, plus the music is straight bangers. Good stuff.
Love the concept and game plays really well great job!
Very enjoyable game and extremely polished! The concept is solid and the execution landed. I truly enjoyed playing this, well done.
I have only a few critiques to offer;
1. Early on I got a camera bug where I could not rotate the camera 360 degrees around my character and was quite frustrated by it - but after resetting it went away.
2. I would add a few invincibility frames after taking damage from spikes - a couple of times my momentum had me bumping into the spikes twice and losing two boxes in quick succession when I was intending to just lose one.
3. And speaking of momentum, the movement is a little "slidey" - that's just a matter of taste, but personally when I am being timed I get stressed constantly having to decelerate and accelerate to that degree.
Really fun game, really cool concept, very amusing voice overs. Nice job!
Thanks for playing and providing feedback, glad you liked the game! About your critiques/issues:
1. The camera gets pretty buggy on the first playthrough and occasionally in web builds. I've noticed this a lot in my other games and don't know how to fix it. I'll try to figure out the issue after the jam rating period ends (the game might get a remaster and if I figure it out it will be patched)
2. There are invincibility frames, though very short and not well indicated. The invincibility time is somewhere between half a second and 1 second if I remember correctly. I was planning to have it be 3 seconds but during development, that changed after some discussion. In the remaster the invincibility frame time will also be increased.
3. The movement is intentionally somewhat slippery, the platformer is speed and precision based. This is because although it is a speed run platformer, you don't move super fast. This allows you to be a lot more precise with movements unlike games like Sonic. It's hard to make precise or very thin platforming considering the way that objects are placed (mostly in a 5x5x5 object grid except for zone 2 which uses 4x4x4) and the player script changed a lot over time, leading to the final variation which has minimal friction making you slippery. It also makes platforming tighter, which although wasn't the best way to do so, worked out alright in the end. If we do the remaster this will probably stay as is for difficulty.
The log voice lines were mostly done by Suave Lobster (mentioned in the credits) by the way. It originally was going to be much more ominous of a voice over but I'm glad we switched from that. Again, thanks for playing and providing constructive criticism.
