A nice game with a sweet ending. The art had it's own charm to it. Loved the background of the stages. In terms of feedback:

- The ghost sound was a little harsh on the ear

- Small bug where if you get hit while spinning the animation stays on spinning

Other than that, I enjoyed the story. All the little interaction bits with all the furniture. I'm glad the story ended up nicely. Good job on the game!

Great game ! Congrats to making an ambitious narrative game like this one for a jam, it really stands out. My only criticism (and please be proud of your work and don't take it badly) is that you chose a heavy subject hard to tackle in a 10 min or so playthrough. But that said you kept it simple and avoided some caveats so kudos for that ! If you want to keep working on it I suggest you take your hero into the mind of the father next. It takes courage to stand up against your beloved relatives but it takes even more to help them get through addiction with empaty. Anyways good job and thank you for this gem !

Great little platformer. Maybe I was missing the volume control, but that is the only thing really missing.

Great game! I like the colour palette, the music was a great fit for the game, and a really nice story too. Well done!

Really great pixel art! I can tell you put a lot of effort into the art and the story, it was impressive.

the visuals are very nice, the color pallete works really well! It was a real joy to look at. The sound and music was also very nice and the controls felt very smooth. I also liked the take on the theme, great game!

This is a great take on theme...invincible spirit that endures during the times of struggle. Well done with the selection of motivational quotes that get more personal as you go! I wish the shooting enemies were better, but the death is very forgiving so no complaints with that. Fun experience overall!

Oof. Wish I had a "cat thing" back then.. Really cool work though ! I enjoyed this game a lot :) Lots of inspirational quotes ! The last one was the best <3

The scarecrows were a bit frustrating since the projectiles came from quite far from them. In some cases you can't see the enemies before getting hit (It was the case a few times with scarecrows, and twice with ghosts if I recall).

Nothing serious though, it was still a great experience.

Wish you well !

One of my personal favorites so far that I've played!  Loved that it was a fully self-contained experience with a complete story, two levels, and a boss.  The art was adorable and the amount of care and attention put into the animations for the protagonist was obvious.  Loved how you had an animation for everything, including "unnecessary" stuff like looking up, crouching, or her tapping her foot during dialogue.  Really gave a sense of professionalism and polish to the whole thing.

The platformer mechanics, while fairly basic, I think were well-executed, and I thought the challenge level was just right for a game jam.  I had no problems with the controls or movement and the level design was solid.  Liked the little bit of enemy design with the scarecrows and ghosts.

The theme I thought was definitely there in the thematic elements of the narrative, and just a little bit in the gameplay with the invincibility period after getting hit and during the last boss.

I feel like you invested your time wisely by focusing on the animations, level design, and narrative first and foremost, but as far as feedback for further improvements if you do more on this project, I'm sure you already know this, but nicer tiles/background art would make a big difference.  I did also run into some issues when hit by the ghosts including once getting softlocked and having to restart the level.

In any case, great work!

I appreciated the narrative theme of confronting your fear! Excellent buildup for the story ! Also the ancient proverbs were a nice touch

I really enjoyed the expressions that the characters made. In terms of gameplay, the jumping is a little floaty, maybe increase the gravity  for the jump?

I also got stuck when one of the ghosts got me and had to restart the game. A level or chapter select would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite nice to see a theoretical application of the game jam's theme! I could totally notice some major influences from games such as Celeste too (and do love me some queer representation in media <3). My review here will be sectioned into two major parts since I have a fair bit to say (both good and bad!):

  1. The Gameplay
  2. The Story

1 - The Gameplay

Not to start of negative, but I found some parts of it to be a bit underbaked. To start of positive, I quite liked the variance of enemies. They all felt unique and had different ways of overcoming them. For example, I found that baiting ghosts over and then jumping past them was the best way to avoid getting hit rather than trying to keep out of their sight. The scarecrow enemies felt a little mean, getting hit by them meant almost certain death thanks to the insta-kill spikes. My suggestion would be to make the spikes just take a certain percentage of health off then bounce you back onto the nearest platform.

The biggest downside in gameplay were the controls. They felt... sluggish. It was difficult to control the character at times, which is a fine method to go down but I felt that with some of the platforming, finer control was needed to avoid falling off a significant amount of time although I did eventually get used to it, I am concerned that people who are worse at platformers than me might be turned away by the controls before they get to enjoy the best part of the game - the story!

2 - The Story

The story was a treat! While a bit corny and cliche at times, I never felt as if it brought anything too egregious into the picture, which is especially important when handling sensitive subjects. As someone with loved ones who are suffering or have suffered from loss and addiction before, I noticed some subtle hints of things that you as a relative of those suffering have to endure. Even things as simple as a loud TV keeping you up at night (as I noticed during the prologue <3). Although it's justified thanks to the short development timeframe of a game jam, I felt as if the ending was a little rushed. It's not super natural for someone so deep in grief and addiction to overcome it and accept help instantly, but I can certainly suspend belief and let it pass because of the aforementioned justification.

Last Notes

I think some of the audio could've been mixed a bit better. The coin SFX when collecting long lines wasn't exactly fun, and it would've been nice to have different songs for each level (but that's more of a minor gripe than a major issue!). Overall, I quite enjoyed this game, and would totally play a release with improved and extended gameplay & story!

P.S. - I found a bug where I would get infinitely juggled by a ghost! Should look into that if you plan to do a post-jam patch.

Gameplay wise it's a pretty standard, albiet well made platformer, but it's elevated by a nice artstyle and story. Good job!

The art is really cute and interesting concept for the theme! And the music is great btw !
Altho I'm unable to finish the game because the homing bullets keep knocking me out to the spikes. :(

Had a ton of fun playing this.  Art was awesome, very impressive work for a 2 week jam.
