Funny game. At the beginning I was not sure what the coffee is for, but wwith each level I knew more :D

Displaying all the controls at the bottom and having a simple right or left hand mode was super clever and streamlined, I might copy that in the future honestly. I did feel the first few levels were a bit long for what they were, but served as a good introduction into how to play, but the printers are really what brought the heat and fun for me. Nicely done :)

Developer

Thank you so much!! The RH/LH accessibility came after having my southpaw bf playtest and I noticed him struggling with the controls. Initially I was going to have manual key bindings but that felt like more work for me (and onboarding friction for the player) so I opted for a simple toggle. Happy to hear it found its way to someone's future game :)

I should have cut wave #2 or 3; after playing more, the easy waves did feel a beat too long before the intro of the tougher printer mobs... so many learnings came out of this jam!

Submitted(+1)

Very nice submission, the gameplay felt really smooth! I think you nailed the hitboxes on the enemies, it felt just right. I was doing great until an email came out of nowhere and totally derailed me (just like real life!) I laughed out loud when the printers spawned. Good execution all around. Congrats on making it through and submitting to your first (of hopefully many) game jams!

Developer

Art imitating life, haha! Thanks so much for playing, I had a lot of fun making it while learning Godot. I definitely plan on doing a lot more jams now that I've overcome the initial trepidation. Hope to see you on some of them too! :)

Submitted(+1)

Really fun idea and execution. Gameplay felt tight and tuned pretty well. Thank for the game!

Developer

Glad you like it, I had a lot of fun making it. Thanks for playing!!

This was such an interesting take on the theme. I really enjoyed the combat, it felt snappy and satisfying and the printer enemies added just the right level of difficulty. Everything looked fantastic as well. I really liked your implementation of the berry theme as power ups too, they were fun to use!

The only feedback I have is that with the rate that enemies drop coffee, the game was a little too easy for my liking. As well as that, the music was very repetitive and stressful, but maybe that's what you were going for!

Either way the game was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and rating! Not sure if you played through a second time - the Overtime wave is really unforgiving. And good point on the music; I chose it because it fit the game loop, and I really liked it, but I just wished it had more variety so it wasn't the same thing over and over. But it kinda worked for the game's content and illustrating the rat race lol.

A job well done! This game triggered me and helped me release some stress at the same time. I think the level progression fell right in the middle imho, not to hard, not to easy. I had to learn not to keep running forward when swinging because even on the killing blow they can still damage you :). I felt the sfx and music was on point for the games concept as well.

Developer

Thank you for playing my game! Yeah, I could have definitely fine-tuned the enemy collisions for tighter gameplay. Lesson learned for my next game, for sure!

Pretty fun for a first game - I made it up to hour 8 before getting bonked out!

As others have said, the alarm sound managed to give me morning anxiety at 11pm lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!! hope the level progression was fair and balanced.. not too hard but not too easy. The alarm sound was intentional to illicit a visceral response, lol. Looks like it did its job :)

Submitted(+1)

I think the only note on balance would be the printer-only round did seem like a bit of a spike (before then I didn't get hit once and didn't realise the coffee was for healing) but otherwise felt pretty well-rounded :)

Developer

Yeah there definitely is a ramp up between the melee grunts (reports, emails) and the ranged, tank attackers (printer). I wanted to introduce the printers individually before combining all the mobs. Maybe I’ll tweak the balance once the jam’s over.

Honestly, a really good entry for your first week in Godot.  Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! I’m really enjoying Godot and can’t wait to make more games. This is really a welcoming community :)

Submitted(+1)

Cute game, for a first week under these conditions you did amazing! The theme I couldn't really understand where the brewing came in (unless it was brewing coffee), but honestly other than that amazing work for just starting in the engine, hope you continue to try it out in the future!

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback and for trying out Burnout! I took the theme very loosely (coffee.. that’s a brewed item right? Lol) I initially was going to have actual coffee brewing in the game but that would’ve exploded my scope, so I kept it as loot. Maybe I’ll keep working on it once the jam is over because I really enjoyed coding in Godot (coming from Swift) and I can’t wait to make more games!

Cool game and the alarm just triggered something in me lol

Good job!

Developer

We’ve all been triggered by that ubiquitous alarm sound lol. Thanks for playing!!

feels like a typical day in the office! the printer is overpowered haha

Developer

The printer always wins! Lol thanks for playing!!

Submitted(+1)

Great game! Great presentation, I thought the idea and art was delightful and the fruit powerups were solid.

Getting swarmed with printers is pretty tough to deal with, maybe some way to fire back at them would have been cool.

Idk about the lone TB-303 loop though as much as I love acid, maybe could have used something with a little percussion maybe?

But yeah fun (and relatable) game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! I really liked the song, and initially I thought it could've used more and varied instrumentation, but the more I listened to it as I was playtesting and debugging, it had this almost hypnotic effect that locked me in. I also was drawn to the repetitive, droning sound that illustrated the rat race we're all familiar with.

Submitted(+1)

Great job! Super frenetic and stressful, but approachable. I find myself really hating printers after playing... And the sound of the alarm is triggering lol. But the vibe was on point, and the game felt good. Great game!

Developer

Good, then the alarm sfx did its purpose :D Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

great game, I had a lot of fun! made it to hour 9 and got beat to a pulp

this felt super polished. The art was super well done. There was no "noise" on the screen, the design was simple but communicative and everything felt nice. The feedback felt great, there were good SFX for hitting, getting hit, powerups, etc. The enemies were cool, especially the printer, I liked how it kited back. Even though the mechanic is quite simple it was still quite challenging and fun, so it was well balanced

my only constructive feedback is that I couldn't really see the brewing theme in the game. funnily enough I think you placed all the wildcards super seamlessly, but the actual theme itself I couldn't see much of. Maybe the player could do something else with the coffee, or maybe instead of being burnout in an office environment, the character is a barista in a coffee shop? something like that might bring more brewing into it

but overall still had a lot of fun, this was a great entry!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Wow!! Thank you for the feedback and for playing through the first loop to get to hour 9! :) I honestly thought my janky artwork would be my weak point after seeing all the other submissions… I definitely need a course in pixel art haha! And you spotted the fact that I initially intended to have an actual brewing mechanic to get the coffee (I was going to have a coffee brewer in one corner, that drained while you use it, and an NPC/office manager in another corner that would saunter over to fill it up when it got empty… but obviously ran out of time. Maybe something to consider for v2..) so I shortcut it and made coffee loot along with the fruit buffs.

Developer(+1)

Also I really enjoyed creating the printer mobs: the movement and attack pattern, the pareidolia design… they’re definitely my favorite enemy in the game.

Submitted(+1)

Mowed down by a horde of printers less than an hour before clocking out. Figures. This was very fun and super solid, especially considering it's your first game jam :) Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun and I’m addicted to jams now lol

Submitted(+1)

I really like the game but i wish i could pause the game and a volume slider would be great.

Developer

Yeah, if I could work on this longer I definitely would have.. I had a lot of fun making it and learning along the way. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Very unique take on the theme! Was a really solid gameplay loop and I liked the retro feel!

Developer

Thank you! It’s my first jam and I really enjoyed the process!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun retro game, where i just can not stop playing since i want to beat my highscore over and over again. Eventho I think this game turned me deff now.

Developer

Haha, thanks! I chose the droning sound to make you feel a bit anxious and locked in, while illustrating the chaos and tedium of office life. Thanks for playing and feedback :)

Submitted(+1)

Ended up succumbing to the printers, just like I do in my actual office.  10/10 for realism

Developer

It be like that sometimes, lol. Thanks for playing! Had fun playing yours as well.

Submitted(+1)

This game was awesome! Love the fruit incorporation as well

Developer

Thank you! Appreciate the feedback. I had a fun time making it!
