yessssss HORSE HORSE HORSE. The vibes of this are excellent, the soft dappled light and pastel-y colours are gorgeous, music is beautiful. At a certain point I kind of just wanted to zone out and watch the horse run around the field while listening to the music. I agree with others that you definitely should start out with more options, because it's frustrating not being able to make meaningful choices for a while. I think even two for each category would make a big difference. I also found the little jingle for the horses being judged got grating very quickly, especially with the frequency. Thanks for sharing your game! Here is my special prince:

I think the player needs to receive customization items faster or through other methods.  I also ended up with 5 front left leg items before I got any options for 4 other slots.  several rounds there was no reason to change the current loadout either because the options were too few or would have no impact.

I liked the models and animations, though with how many times the judging takes place I would have appreciated a faster animation or a speed up or skip.

Hello,

thanks for playing my game, the unlocking of parts should be 1 part almost every contest, I think the total chance of getting a part is above 70%, the parts are given random though, so you may receive 4 leg parts before a mane part, I might change this, I understand your opinion. I didn't make too many parts, just over 50 if you count each individual leg, I have a short attention span and was tired after working on it for 5 days. this is something I could easily add, and my other game Breeding Pool which this customization was based on features over 200 parts now. the game is in favour of the player winning, I thought making it easy would be better for such casual game. speeding up or skipping the contests are also a good idea, I might change that in the future.

I appreciate your feedback!

A faster rate for the first few days might help then, that way you can quickly build a small collection.  maybe at first it's 100% to get one item and 70% to get a second.  if you roll them at the same time, you could also make sure they roll for different parts, that way there's some guarantee of a spread.  you could reduce the odds on getting the second part to 0, then reduce the odds on rolling one.  By gut I'd only reduce when items is obtained.  rate of reduction would depend on total number of items

you could also weight the odds of the parts based on the power, and boost the rewards based on performance in the judging, i.e. first place increases the odds on rarer parts or increases the likelihood of additional parts.  But those are ideas for later, or maybe already in Breeding Pool.

I know I got a bit unlucky here, and I'm not worried if there are only 50ish parts for a game jam game.  That's enough to get the idea across.

It is a very cute concept. I think you need to start the user off with a few free customization options or it doesn't feel fun to enter at first since you have no impact :(

The 3d modelling looks nice to me and the sound effects are great.

I'm curious if the other horses are randomly generated? Is it set so the user always wins the first level?

Thanks for playing my game. starter customizations are a good idea. the game uses an anonymous leaderboard in the unity cloud services,  which saves the horse data as metadata, so the horses you see are actually other players horses they customized.  the user isn't guarantee to win the first level, the only thing I did was make it so the first 3 contests you'll always receive a reward, after that you only get a reward when you win. When you lose it's still 50% chance. I wanted it to not feel hard to unlock new parts as this was meant to be a short game.

Ah! I wondered if it was others user's horses, that is very cool :) That generosity with the prizes definitely helps to get the customization started well.

It's a cool idea, I like that the art is very unique and the fact that customization is very present, including even customizing the songs

Very unique concept for a game. The contest is a nice way to add more gameplay elements to the customization. The music playlist is great too. Good job on the game!

Loved that you let us choose from different music tracks. I spent some time listening through a few of them, they were all pretty and chill. Honestly, even that alone would have been a fun take on the customization limitation, but I liked that the whole game was built around it.

The 3D models were simple but looked really good. The environment was gorgeous too, I loved all the little bees flying around and the grass swaying. Really nice polish touch. The effects after winning a contest were super fun as well.

The horse customization itself was really charming, and I liked unlocking all the different options. Wanting to see them all kept me going. I also liked that the customization tied directly into the rating mechanic, with having to equip parts based on the traits the farmers were judging.

Really relaxing game with charming artstyle!

I love the voxel graphic style, it really added to the cute aesthetic. The farmer is funny.

Super cute horses :)

Well the switches did not seem to work for me, it was always brown. :D Shame, because I really like the idea of dressing up the horses and the sounds and music are nice.

Developer

Hello,

Thanks for trying the game, at start there's only brown options for the horse, you need to enter contests at the right bottom to unlock new ones :) sorry for not making this clear enough.
